I like project farm, I do, the comparisons he does do give a lot of useful insight but we still have to use our critical thinking with this stuff and also realize there are whole physics and chemistry specialties dedicated to understanding how stuff performs in given ways. Like… the diesel 911, it’s not an antigel product it’s designed to be used AFTER youre having problems with water and ice in your fuel… meaning it’s likely isopropyl alcohol based… so it “bonds” with the water and puts in in solution to be gotten rid of. All diesel fuel has water in it… it’s a question of how the water is mixed in…. So you can’t judge all of this solely based on the testing done here. Also… you can get isopropyl alcohol cheaper at Walmart in the pharmacy. And you can have an alcohol solution that in a bottle won’t freeze at very cool temps… but add in some water (aka put the additive in the fuel that has water) and suddenly it’s frozen at a much milder temp. All I’m saying is take this stuff with a grain of salt and do proper research to understand the full extent of the processes involved when asking a liquid mix of chemicals to do big jobs. Follow the directions on the bottles, contact the people that make the stuff… look up the msds to see if it lists the actual ingredients so you can understand what something really does. Bobistheoilguy is a good place to start as far as non peer reviewed stuff… but again you are your own warranty in this world so I always try to actually understand further and check as many sources as i can within the timeframe involved. And there are some circumstances where dumping some random snake oil or even something fine in one motor in your fuel can cost you thousands dependent on the machine.

I keep coming back to this video thinking there needs to be a "diesel fuel additive" series. There are so many new products just in the last 2 years that I feel like we need more data to go along with it! I'd love to see amsoil, and Lucas oil added to the bunch. I’d like to see the PS DieselKleen tested at full dose, rather than half-dose. Or if it was, I’d like it to be specified what the dosing is - the Hotshots has 1 dosing option - 1 ounce per 8 gallons. The PS has 2 dosing options, and 3 formulations - the 1:400, 1:1000, and 1:1500 options. So, if we were using, for example, the 80 oz packaging, at 250 gallons, versus the below 0 option of 125 gallons, it’s literally 2x the dosing. So I expect the results to be significantly different depending on the dosing! And we are never told which dosing he uses. We aren’t told if the packaging was a 1:400 or 1:1000 mix option. I’m not as familiar with the others, but at least tell us what version, what dosing! That’s what Science is about!

I could not believe it but when I started fiddling around with it, if everything still worked. Unbelieveable. Last registration on the tag was 1998. The 454 legit started right up when I ran gasoline to it and purred like a new motor. I can't bring myself to scrap the old thing. @101Volts5 жыл бұрын
Not just Optilube XPD, that's the popular all around formula. They have other ones, I'm most interested in Boost! and XL, particularly when they're mixed together at their maximum treat rates. Boost is supposed to raise the Cetane Rating by up to 9 points and XL is supposed to increase fuel lubricity a great amount. I've used both together, Boost at the max treat rate and XL at 2 oz / 10 gallons instead of 2.5 oz / 10 gallons. They seemed to pep up my old 6.5 enough so it wouldn't downshift up the same hill at 50 MPH as much so i think they work. (I was using my ScanGauge II to test it, with these additives the MPG numbers were higher up the same hill with the same weather conditions and tire pressures than they were previously.)

And I'm not worried about gel/wax in fuel, in EU we have other-witer norm for diesel fuel (with much lower freezing point). Also always change fuel filter BEFORE winter, if its dirty then it will clog up waaay quicker.

Yeah my first thought. You can't compare them in the same test as 911 doesn't claim to be an additive of any kind. It's really an emergency thing you use when it's too late and it has a few competitors as well that don't claim to be additives either. The supplement did what it claimed to do like Howes at preventing gelling.

Todd, First off great channel and thank you for all the time you dedicate to as scientific and unbiased presentation of results that you can do without a full blown research lab. LOL I know the 2 stroke oil adds fuel lubrication but in fairness Amsoil's dedicated products for this application "Cold Flow" and "Recovery" should have been used in this test instead. As a lifetime Amsoil dealer that has experienced proven results over the last 30+ years I have been a dealer. Feel free to reach out to me if you need some for testing.

Truckers trick, I have added chainsaw gasoline to diesel fuel to keep it from gelling up and it works well. This is gasoline mixed 50/1 with high quality two stroke oil. In the summer I add transmission fluid to my fuel tank, one quart for about 34 gallons. Of course my truck is a 2006 and I would not do that with any truck with def or “ blue Tex “ technology.
