Man I loved my experience with digimon world from not knowing what the hell I was doing to barely knowing what I'm doing and being able to appreciate it further. It's my favorite game of all time despite it's flaws because it has that charm I just could never find again, even within the franchise.

I picked up survive, not being a digimon games fan, or knowing what to expect. And. Over all I really dig it. It's like an anime. ( But good). Where you can accidentally kill all the main cast. I like the fire emblem like battling. And how mature the game feels. Those things made me like it.

The original Digimon World is something truly special if you go into it blind. I was shocked to find that I had visited areas out of order and had even missed out on some areas entirely after reading up on what I had missed after beating my blind run. The game was really ahead of its time when it comes to open-world survival games. Sure, it starts off rough and can be very unclear at times, but the margin of error is still large enough to allow you to meet the minimum requirement to beat the game even if you're just following your curiosity, especially since the NPCs are actually surprisingly helpful when it comes to pointing you towards areas of interest. You really feel an explorer as you go where your intuition takes you and see sights that others may have tackled at a different time in their adventure or not even seen at all. Next Order is also an excellent modern interpretation of the same gameplay formula, though it's a bit more rigid in terms of story progression and doesn't have that uniquely semi-realistic visual style that really made an impression on me with the original. On the plus side, it's not an obtuse game in any way once you get past the intial hurdle of trial and erroring your way into figuring out how to raise your Mons the most effectively, and the soundtrack is absolutely amazing. The post game is also very fun. I owe a lot to Cyber Sleuth for reintroducing me to the series as an adult, and I really adore Hacker's Memory's story and characters, but the World games are just so unique that I can't call either game in the Cyber Sleuth duology my favorite.

Just completed Next Order in my 66hours run, completed the lvl 80 Boltboutamon quest with 198 prosperity, even with all those high stats farmed up, the thing standing between you and the enemy monster are just regen disks, they should give the stats over 9999 that will be fun for post end games

Digimon Adventure PSP is a great game that most people haven't played! It doesn't help that it's never left Japan or the PSP. There is a fan translation available online if you know where to look if anyone is ever curious. It's a very simple turn-based RPG based on the original Adventure anime and plays out almost exactly like the show and neat features like ranking up bonds with other characters (think the Support system in Fire Emblem) and tying that to unlocking the six other Megas that the other kids never got in the show. Battles get tougher by the end and there are amazing extras such as the Our War Game story and the bonus story featuring all the goggle boys (and Marcus). Definitely worth playing!

Your feelings on this are very close to how I feel as well! I don't know if I could reasonably recommend a person going back and playing Digimon World 1 in 2023, but gosh, it left such an incredible impression on me when I was younger that I now own three physical copies and will never hawk them. (BTW Lightly used Digimon World 1 disk for PS1 have, somehow, managed to stay under $50 on Ebay.) Definitely worth watching an abridged Lets Play on youtube though if a person is a hardcore new digimon fan. Next Order was a great sequel of DW1. Needed advancements in gaming mechanics, like being able to learn stats for digivolution paths and tamer level abilities, were supplied in a way that felt enjoyable to play. I was very surprised that a game released in 2016 for PS Vita was released for Steam in 2023, but gosh am I happy it was! And we even had the ability to RUN in this version! I don't expect for another game like this to come out for a while. If anything, I would suspect they would remake DW1 before moving forward with the World series. Especially after a re-release of Next Order. Having Two digimon at a time is a welcome change as well. I'm so thankful they led in MarineAngemon to help sort any timing imbalances, as well as the dojo to better control evolution choices. Some of the models for this Next Order were used for Linkz and ReArise. I don't mind it. Like, Leomon probably isn't going to look all too different from entry to entry. But I hope it isn't a trend that continues into the main line of new games too much. As a fan of dungeon crawlers, Digimon World 2 fostered a lot of love from me (I do hope that we get to see the awesome DigiBeetles return sometime in the future. Digimon Seekers has a few digimon that act similarly for transport, like cargodramon, but I don't know if they are intended to be related). Cyber Sleuth had an expansion of DW2's battle/evolution system, and it felt great to play, but what really surprised me was how the world environment was also an advancement in DW2's style. The open town areas are very much parallel to the cities and docks of DW2. And Its difficult to describe how, but the branching mirror dungeons unlocked through the game feel very much like revisiting the branching dungeons of DW2 after the plot of the area had been cleared. Long linear tunnels with pockets that hold digimon and treasure, with intention of speed grinding through, was extremely enjoyable to fly back and forth through. And my gosh, holding 300 digimon in your banks/farms/team? Wow! I love Tactical games like Final Fantasy Tactics AND Point & Click Horror adventures like Corpse Party, so the combination with one of the two styles with the fun of digimon was a welcome experience. I kept up with the struggle of producing the game, which no doubt impacted the final product, but I still feel like there were some obvious issues with it that could have been addressed with 2% more budget. Like adding in two more hits to the OST so that songs didn't feel repeated, battle maps being a few squares smaller so that units with lesser speed values don't become obsolete, and spending a little bit more time in running beta players through to catch small but 'in-your-face' technical errors. I played through the English Patch of Re:Digitize thinking it would be like Cyber Sleuth. It was cool! But I don't know if it would be a financial success if updated and transferred to Steam. It feels a smidge too old.

NEXT ORDER 2 but much MUCH MUCH longer! I basically can speed run NEXT ORDER in a day! Also NEXT ORDER the biggest OOF is no NG+ because you unlock eggs for post game which for the switch ONLY THE AUGU GOBU EGG unlock for new files. I have 400+ hours in that game and it would have been nice to slowly progress to FULL completion instead of grind. To me it's fun to see how fast you can beat the game and have evos just do their thing but a lot are locked until SUPER POST GAME and by then you are done.

my first digimon game was digimon world3 not 2003 and both 2003 got more content in it but I had fun because when I play a digimon game I always enjoy looking at deferment digimons, the ds games were so good too and I played the rest and enjoyed them

Something I like about Next Order (beware though, I only played DW3, DW4, DRA1 and DRA2 asides of Next Order so dunno if there's already a better alternative with features I mention here), though I think requires some polish is semi automated combat, I know it's weird but somehow makes you feel more like a tamer instead of just controlling the digimon around, personally I see no difference other than story contribution in most digimon games to having a tamer vs coding the same game but make the digimon do everything instead, you could make a digimon world game where it's only digimons and it wouldn't really play any different, caring for them instead is somewhat of a nice touch, although I do think it needs a lot more depth both in fights and overall, would love to see a Digimon Tamers (not strictly tied to tamers story) style game where you do have to take care of your digimon but the digimon has its own identity and can do its own thing, and perhaps learns from your in battle commands and tries to replicate on future battles, perhaps have a thing similar to ExE where instead of fusing together your digimons you instead have a Digimon Tamers Matrix evolution moment and link with your digimon THEN you can manually choose what to do, idk just some thoughts, also, make the life-death cycle either longer or optional, like let player know the digimon will reach higher stats if reborn but don't force it on us so it doesn't happen precisely what you said about dying when trying to clear story and having to train from 0 just to keep going on story, plus it kinda takes you out of the game when it's implied that it's important you do something now (even if tasks are not actually time limited) and go for a full life-death cycle while world freezes for you

I want a next order type game but with a single digimon partner. I mean it's awesome with the exe fusion. but they are so limited. I'm okay with having it be a burst mechanic instead of a fuse. (It's so cool when they fuse when u thought it was game over tho, really gives u a second wind feeling)

I wish they put much more effort in making new games. Cyber sleuth hyped up the community after years of being dormant. I don't want to see this franchise die, it would hurt me deeply. They should put effort in making new games with unique stories and be consistent. The franchise isn't what it used be. They release good things and then they miss with a lot of other things like shows, games, movies etc.

I think it's more because Bandai doesn't give Digimon as much of a budget so that's why the game releases aren't frequent. The franchise won't die at least, if anything this year has more stuff going on than ever before.

I would agree digimon 2003 is the best, and not just because of nostalgia. As much as nostalgia effect might be a thing, it's way too exaggerated in an unfair sense. Case and point, are all the earlier games/shows that you do not look back too fondly on. Sure, 2003 has its quirks, but overall it's a great game.

Thankfully the complete version of cyber sleuth came out because you cant actually get the original cyber slueth or dlc on ps4 unless you have the physical copy as it was taken down from the playstation shop and even then unless you download the dlc on ps4 before hand you out of luck with the ps4

Tbh I’d say cyber sleuth aside from the fact theirs the whole you have to be a detective which I know is the main plot point of it it has some really solid gameplay like if they could make a hybrid between digimon world and cyber sleuth it would literally be the best game like I don’t want to find mons to build a town and I also don’t care about solving cases just give me a save the world type plot without the filler and also add features from digimon champions like the farming stuff and make the story like survive but nothing else like it in terms of gameplay then you will have the best Digimon game

I didn't want to be a sleuth, but after 1-2 missions I actually liked it. It's pretty unique better than the formulaic; I need to save the world. Don't get me wrong, the franchise is about saving the world, but changing the format and mixing things up will keep things fresh and non-redundant.

Nah, what you call "filler" is part of what makes the game fun and makes the world more than just a streamlined story which would be boring and paced badly.
