No because I'm mixed and my parents aren't together but I'm normally with my mom and when I'm talking to her I forget she doesn't know Spanish like me so when I say something in Spanish while just talking in English she completely shuts down and tries to guess what I said 😂😂

Born and raised in Kentucky, so Encanto actually introduced me to arepas and got me reaaaally interested in making them. I just finished a batch of five and they are DELICIOUS. Can't wait to make more!

@@carlosbellorin9227 The arepa is actually pre-Colombian in origin, meaning that it was around before either Colombia or Venezuela existed as we know them. The arepa is native to both Colombia AND Venezuela.

I see a lot of people saying arepas aren't from Colombia. Yeah, the movie never said they originated here, but they're a great part of Colombia's gastronomy, we make all kinds of different arepas. Let's all stop trying to gatekeep latino gastronomy, the whole point about our culture is that it's a mix of many different traditions. Much love from Colombia! 🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴

This is so true! I'm venezuelan and honestly I've never understood the conflict between the "true origin" of arepas. Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador were literally the same country before, so of course there's going to be a lot of things we have in common (even though almost everyone has their own way of making the same dish)

Stephanie is so adorable!! I'm so glad that she's doing so well, though I'm sad that Brooklyn99 is over I just love her as Mirabel in Encanto and Carla in In the Heights. I'm looking forward to whatever she does next. She's so friggin' talented, Diane as well. I love her in Doom Patrol, they both have such range. And those dishes look so delicious!!

I love when Stephanie says 'Ghee' and Diane has no idea what Ghee is 😂. Im Indian and Ghee comes from Ancient India, and I personally love the whole Latina/Hispanic Culture, so it was really nice to know that she knew what Ghee was 😂😂

Grew up with a Colombian stepmother and when her family visited we had arepas. They didn’t speak English and the first thing I learn to say to them was “quiero arepas con queso y huevitos”

Can we all appreciate how versatile these two are? Diane plays a badass in Doom Patrol while Stephanie played Rosa in Brooklyn 99 and now both play these two adorable and sweet characters in a kid's movie, I just love them❤🌟

Yeah but the corn flour we use is manufactured completely different from what other latin countries use. Masa arepa or Harina Pan is what you wanna look for when you go to the store. In Venezuela, it's eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as a flat bread (kinda like a tortilla or pizza base) for whatever toppings you want, whereas in Colombia it's eaten specifically as a filled hot pocket sandwich but which allows for so many kinds of ways to eat it!

​@@hihenry22Gorditas are basically arepas, so it would be pointless to have one parent make arepas and another make gorditas. However, gorditas are not as popular in Mexico (tacos are more popular there) as Arepas are in Colombia. So I would think that her mother's arepas are more tasty.

“Anything made with love is gonna be better” It’s very true I’ve had spaghetti at different houses and restaurants, but my grandmothers spaghetti is just 100% better than any other. Similar to my other grandmothers breakfast cooking. Her eggs, beans, tortillas, etc is just better than any breakfast place(s)

I like how the couldn't be more wrong about making arepas, but they just keep encouraging each other. You gotta really get your hands in the mix. As colombians we learn to make arepas around 12 or 13 years old

I'm Colombian, but my mom never let me be around the kitchen. She said she was safeguarding my hands because I was going to become a renowned microsurgeon, which I did (not renowned, but a micro surgeon, indeed). And I learned to make arepas and buñuelos in my adulthood. :) Saludos!

As a black African woman, this movie and the authenticity to the culture of Colombia is such a refreshing breath of air. I love love love it. Doesn't hurt that I've been a big fan of both of these women for years 😁

My family's mexican and we would make arepas (we call them gorditas) with different flavors; cheese, potatoes, and beans. We'd eat them with sour cream, with guacamole, or just by themselves. Loved the movie so much, the whole cast and team did a wonderful job. Me encanto mucho 🤩

Arepas and gorditas are two separate dishes. The flour is different. That's like saying arepas when you mean tortillas.

Son de la misma forma y el mismo concepto pero saben muy diferente, ya que la harina tiene un sabor diferente, la harina de las arepas es más granulada y no tiene un sabor tan fuerte al maíz como la masa de las gorditas, aún así yo soy mexicana y amo las 2

I just want to say, as a colombian, this is the first time I see they add the cheese individually, my mom (and my fam in general) add the cheese to the dough and mix it again, then you give them their form and then you fry them

I think Peru has Stuffed potato (they use cheese), Argentina... the only similar thing I can think of is Milanesa. Mexico has Quesadillas, And Chile... well, we just have Pan con Queso, but we have a big variety of bread. We have Barros Lucos sandwich tho, which it is homemade bread with melted cheese and steak. Btw, I've been in Colombia and I loved Arepas ♡ kudos to Colombia for that.

We have something like this in Ecuador but instead of dough it's a thick mash potatoe pancake with green onion and bacon in it and a ball of cheese in the center, fried like these. 💕 Best served with cuy and sankocho with pleanty of yucca root and cactus leaf.

my father's family has lived in Venezuela for 40 years, my parents lived 10 years in there too and my brother was born there and they have tought me the Venezuelan way of making arepas and we have always done them since I can remember. Its so cool to see the difference between the Venezuelan way and the Colombian way to prepare them (I know Stephanie and Diane are Americans but for example, they don't mention reina pepiada or carne mechada as the common stuffing or how they put the toppings over the arepa and not inside)
