Momotaro is simply divine. He is regal and majestic in every way. He is truly a magnificent silverback. My synopsis analysis is dissected into different fragments. Based on my observation I think Momotaro is a highly intelligent gorilla. He is an enigma and in a league of his own. He is like the crown prince of the gorilla's world. He is just extra-ordinarily handsome, and the way he moves and sits down leaves you to the imagination. I have followed him throughout the birth of his youngest offspring and I tell you what, he is impressive. He knows how to be patient, and very understanding towards his wife Genki. Momo is only 21 years old and for a father, he is not doing too bad considering he grew up without a silverback to look up to. I personally think that we human beings should just enjoy both Momo and Sabani because they are both gorgeous in their own way. I love them both and somehow, I can't fathom comparing those amazing animals. I simply love them both. In fact, I love all the gorillas and I thank God for giving us the opportunity to enjoy and cherish these beautiful animals,

Momotaro 100%...good father and husband. He's very protective of his family. Watch his eyes in close up shots, his eyes are always looking and observing everything. Besides, he is so handsome. Love the Momotaro family

Momotoro the best father? You need to use your cognitive skills instead of your emotions. Shabani do the same thing, looking at his family’s and observing every thing besides he raised his rejected daughter, grooming her and protecting her to this day, plus he exercises his troop, walks in tightropes and it’s not a bully like Momotaro.

Let's see...BOTH for different reasons. Shebani is a big kid, so playful with his family, and he is goofy as heck, AND he loves to love on his older woman, alot! Momotaro is gentle and calm, unless you try to take his food AND he is very protective to his one and only Genki...Example, when the earthquake hit and he protected Genki and the baby, that was remarkable . MoMo had a hard life with no dad to teach him how to be a Silverback and Shebani had a wonderful childhood with two great parents. I can't choose, I just know that I am borderline obsessed with both of these families and I watch them a lot...It's a guanteneed happiness I get every day. Thank you Japan for sharing you gorilla families with us. And please to all the animal lovers out there, please donate to the zoo's of you can, especially Kyoto zoo they and there city are suffering financially and it's a possibility that they could close...That would be a travesty, let alone a monumental upset for all the animals . Nina West, GREAT comment! Have you ever watched the Gorilla family in Taipei zoo? The Female Tayari? She is a younger female and absolutely smitten with Silverback D'Jeeco! It is hysterical! Tayari follows him and loves to touch and even HUGS on him. She loves to play too. I think Shabani would LOVE to have a female who loves to play and hug, touch and be near him. Shabani always tries to seek out affection from the females and half the time Nene looks like she wants to bitch-slap him. ;-) I think Shabani and Tayari would be in heaven together. Momotaro may run and hide from her because he is not use to such aggression of affection, but may learn to love some hugs and ego boosting. Sad they don't have a dating site to choose a mate! ;-) Like you, i cant choose. They are both amazing Dad's and Silverback studs! Momo is doing great for not having a Dad to learn from and a normal family with more females to mate and be with. But, they are wonderful and impossible to choose! Be safe! Momotaro is a class on his own... Many times I feel the family is different than all other gorillas. Every one of them is so awesome, always... Momo, Gentaro, mama Genki and little chubby kintaro.... One cuter that the other... Love them all and can't stop watching them... Can't count the number of hours the family brought a smile on my face On these uncertain times, SPECIALLY KINTARO, who is a bundle of joy. ❤️❤️❤️

Great comment! Yeah, Kintaro now has a little "Buddha-Belly" now and loves slapping his Tubby-Tummy! Both families are wonderful. Hard to choose a favorite. Both Silverbacks have great positive behaviors and we must remember that Momotaro never had a Daddy to learn from where Shabani did.I think Momotaro is doing a great job for no role model as a little guy. I WISH Momo had another Female as other families because I would like to see him get more affection and attention or even some "play time" with a female. Like Tayari from Taipei zoo, she loves to hug and be near Silverback, D'Jeeco. She is smitten with him and it's hysterical. Shabani is very playful and affectionate and playful. Shabani ( just my opinion ) would LOVE to have a young female showing him so much affection because he always tries to get his females to play or walks by them and touches them. It would be fun seeing him getting stalked. He would love it. Momotaro, well, he may be very confused and run and hide from Tayari. But, he may grow to love such affection. Sad because of Genki's past and her sensitive nature they can't allow another female in this family because of a risk of her getting jealous and depressed. But, they seem to be content. I started watching "Prague Zoo" after seeing a video of my Beloved Gorilla Boy Tatu playing on a tree branch wearing a white hat. He was just like a Child! From that sweet Gorilla Boy, Sadly, he died. He loved the ropes and often wrapped them around his neck. One morning before the family woke, he must have been playing and by accident hung himself. Sadly. all he knows is the relationship he has with Genki instead of having a few Females with different personalities to see maybe a more playful and affectionate female so he understands that he can have a different relationship with a more affectionate mate. They matched Genki with Momotaro because he is "Biju" son. Genki was very attracted to Biju. ( Biju died so Momotaro had no male to learn from just his Mom ) When Momotaro's Mom, Momoko was added to this group, Genki lost her status and place with Biju. Thats when she got depressed. Biju favored Momoko and Genki got very sad and stopped eating and self mutilated by biting off her finger. So, since Genki was so in love with Biju, and Momotaro looked so much like his dad, when Momotaro was 10, they put him with Genki to mate.But, they wwont put any other females in this family because its a good chance Genki will get jealous and withdraw and spiral down into depression and self mutilation again and she has her kids to still care for. They wont take a chance to stress her again. I did hear when Gentaro was a baby, they moved this family to a new enclosure and Momotaro didn't take the change well at all and became very stressed and angry. He took out his fear and frustration on Genki and baby Gentaro until he calmed down and was at ease in a new home. Maybe those situations stuck with Genki and she remembers his anger and still keeps a safe difference. ? I don't know. Genki is a stressed and cautious female who seems very nervous. I have heard many gorillas, especially Silverbacks do NOT take to any changes in their surrounding well and get depressed and angry at times. It would be cool if they had language and could share their feelings with us to explain certain behaviors, fears and situations.We don't so, all we can do is watch and hope for the best. Genki is old. She may sadly pass and I think then hey will put Momotaro with new females. I did hear that at times Genki gets upset when Momotaro doesn't sit with her and vocalizes ( her way of begging him ) so he doesnt leave. Who knows? We dont see and know a lot that goes on behind the scenes that the keepers know. Maybe she does show more affection inside away from public? But, I agree with your reply. Thanks.be safe!

It's got to be momotara for me as well, he wanted to get close to Kintaro when he wa very little but Genki was rightly very protective of her baby. Momataro respected Genki totally & was very patient. He didn't mind Gentaro tormenting him he showed patience again. He now plays with the little one as much as possible but always respecting Genki. His 2 boys have started to follow him about a lot now & copy him more & more. They've got a fantastic faith to look up to & the whole family seem to be very happy.

I simply cannot choose. Each Silverback has his own personality and handles situations differently. Momotaro had to learn about being a mate & dad on his own since he had no role model growing up. I do love to watch him swing from the highest reaches of the roof when he's gathering food. What power and strength! Shabani is a natural with his offspring - and he is a fine looking Silverback! They both have older mates - Genki at 35 yrs and Nene at 48 yrs.

@@Discordia5 you might be confused, idk. As the disciplinarian of the troop, Momotaro rarely, if ever, resorts to physical punishment. I have not seen him bite Genki nor drag Kintaro. Yes, the lower rank troop members move away when he walks in their direction; this is out of respect, not fear. The silverback sits, stands, lies down, walks, or climbs wherever he wants. That is his right as the silverback. The job of the silverback is to lead the troop, guard & protect, impose & maintain order, discipline errant members, & socialize the youngsters. Momotaro is an excellent silverback.

Their are many things off about them and most likely due to not only captivity but also the conditions they’re subjected to live in. That zoo should be closed. It's obvious from watching both families that Shabani is the better father, mate and silverback overall. He has a beautiful personality. Momo comes across as troubled and reserved but he is trying and hopefully learning to be better. I 100% agree with comments about their different environments affecting them. My wish is that Kyoto Zoo find the money to improve and grow the gorilla environment. Beautiful animals, they all deserve better ❤️❤️❤️

Both have their attractions. Shabani is more outgoing and can dance like a pro, but Momotaro is a totally different guy. Even growing up without a dad, losing his dad, Biju, Momotaro has turned into a very attentive father. Definitely Momotaro, though Shabani runs a close 2nd. Momo might be quieter, but he really rocks his hemp blankets. I really wish that Momo had a bigger enclosure and could have more mates. He deserves so much more!

Momotaro! Genki is the sweetest looking wife, mother and so intelligent. She knows how to approach Momotaro. Momotaro is very different with other silverbacks...he is more closely to human behavior...he is not playful like other normal gorilla...he is like a usual human father, very reserved, calm, sometimes strict...a good diciplinarian... Hard choice. I love the gentle, graceful but firm Momotaro But it is no contest when it comes to chest drumming and scaring visitors. No one does it better than Shabini. He also loves to play with his kids and not just protect them. Of course Shabini has more wives and a much bigger group which keeps him very active.

Shabani for me. He is a perfectly formed Gorilla and is a great father. I love that he understands what will make the crowd cheer. His intelligence level seems high. He is protective of his family and if disputes arise, he will rush to the scene putting his large body between those arguing, protecting the little ones. His stare alone seems to defuse just about any situation.

Momotaro has a much smaller environment with less to interact with so for that alone I'm not able to compare. Can't help but feel he would blossom with more space and troop. I think they are both charismatic, handsome, and intelligent fellows.

Shabani is playful now but when his enclousure was smoller and whitout grass he was agressive with the females like his brother Haoko who meastreat Momontaro mother Momoko in Ueno. Momontaro is calm and gentle. He respect Jenki and love his little son. Indeed he is a good father with his two sons. Momontaro is wonderful and very nice. He is my favourite silverback

I love Momo, but Shabani is the best gorilla. He is like a big energetic child, but very, very gentle. I've never seen SO MUCH love and tenderness in a gorilla! When he affectionately hugs and kisses his baby Annie, he tickles her belly and they both laugh. He always took great care of Annie, replaced her mother and raised her in great love. She is still his little princess. Shabani devotes an incredible amount of time to his children, he is ready to play with them whenever they want and never refuses! Even if he wants to sleep or is busy with something. He just comes up to hug, tickle, and kiss someone in his family. He never punished his children, did not growl or spank them, not once. On the contrary, they eat his food, take it from his hands and sleep in his nests. Shabani is very tactile and loves touch, a lot of tenderness. True, when he plays, it turns into a typhoon! HD If the kids are playing rough in his eyes, he gently intervenes. He pays enough attention to everyone: when he played wrestling with Kiymasa, Annie became jealous and pulled his hand and Shabani immediately began to tickle her stomach. The children followed him as if tied. I remember how during the rain the family was on the street, and Shabani took everyone to the shelter. First he put Annie under the canopy, then he shoved everyone else, and he himself remained in the rain. And he never needs to prove his strength through physical application. When Kiyomasa is very naughty or trying to dominate, Shabani silently looks at him and the son immediately calms down.

So if I remember correctly, Shabani is Haoko's brother, and Haoko is now Momoko's (Momotaro's mother) mate... so that makes Shabani Momotaro's adopted uncle, right? Heh, cute little family tree :) I can't say I favor one over the other though. Both are great dads with cute quirks and who serve their purpose in their own ways. Momotaro is held back a bit by the fact he never had a father (highly unnatural in the wild), but Gentaro and Kintaro seem to inspire him to take up the role of a guardian anyway. Although, he is a bit scarier than Shabani when he's angry. But in terms of looks... Momo is just so sleek, lol. The rate at which my jaw drops whenever I see him is at least 4x that of Shabani. And how he acessorizes? Burlap never looked so chic!

I love Ginki, Kintaro, & Gentaro! Momotaro rarely participates with his family, especially his sons. He has been described as a loaner, quiet, etc. Shambani is opposite ! He loves to play with his daughter & son. He will run up by them, wanting to start a game similar to "tag." He demonstrates a handsome level of showmanship by drumming or walking on 2 legs across a limb, or something similar.! Ginki & Shambani would make perfect parents!

I love both families but for different reasons. Shabani has a sense of mischief, a twinkle in his eye, and is very playful. He likes to chase and be chased and loves to show off. Momo is very laid back and more serious. His playstyle is less chase and more wrestle. He takes his job of silverback very seriously.

Shabani has already been voted the most handsome silverback by ppl around the world, and if you have been watching Shabani with his kid’s you’d know it was him who sat daily with little Kiyo his son watching his little princess Annie being looked after by the keeper bc her mother AI had no milk and no interest in the baby, Annie was gradually being introduced back into her family’s care and it was Shabani who protected her from Nene’s unprovoked attacks, he was a natural loving caring father who turned out to be Annie’s main care giver he’d play with both kid’s and showed Kiyo how to be more gentle when playing with Annie. Shabani wins hands down 👏🏼

They each have their own adorable personality. Momo is shy and very much an introvert while Shabani is fun loving and enjoy entertaining and playing with his kids. But they both are exceptional troop leaders. I enjoy watching them BOTH. I haven't seen him do it lately, but Momo used to run his wife and kids (the baby, too) away from food so that he could get it. That's something that annoyed me about Momo. However, I never saw Shabani do anything remotely similar to that. Lastly, I remember how Shabani was a doting dad, especially with his little princess Annie when she joined the group. He was very protective, especially when grouchy NeNe tried to attack little Annie. I didn't know Shabani could move so fast.

This is a legendary battle! XD It's not fair, these are the best gorillas in the world! They are both unique and amazing, but I will always love Shabani a little more. He is a big and funny kid who loves to play and hug and do funny things. He is very, very gentle and energetic at the same time. He shares his food and builds nests for his already grown children, but he is also a very good protector. His daughter is a little princess, although she has already grown up. I will always remember how he took care of and saved this baby, who became an orphan with a living mother. Shabani was lucky to be born into a large and happy family to become the same. Momotaro I'm a little sorry, he is very cool, but he lacks love. He did not have a father, and Genki, it seems, is not very fond of close contact with her husband. With the appearance of Kintaro, he became calmer and more tender, and the family rallied.
