My 24hr tin cloth briefcase is one of my favorite possessions. I generally only travel with one bag and this bag does the trick unless I’m going to be gone for several weeks. It’s also my every day carry bag and it’s perfect for that use for me since I am bike and transit only and it’s nice to have some extra space in case I need to carry something home or grab some small amount of groceries on the way home. I don’t anticipate ever needing another bag unless it gets lost or stolen …*knocks on wood*

@carryology just so that you’re aware those bags are all using YKK zippers, their branding is not in their typical location. On these zippers the YKK is stamped on the profile (side) of the looped or “bridge” part of zipper head.

Thank you! Now I know, always wondering. I checked on my rolling luggage carry on & travel kit, indeed there's YKK branding on the 'bridge'

As someone who really appreciates a nice patina on jackets and bags, I couldn't leave my 258 the way I got it. I have one in the color Tan and I find the brand new look too boring. Even if the bag develops a patina naturally over the weeks and months, the softness of the fabric still bothers me personally. I have therefore treated mine with wax. The first step was to use the Greenland Wax from Fjällraven, which is similar to the Otter wax Heavy Duty Fabric Wax. I particularly like the stiffness it creates. You shouldn't be afraid of the process. It's almost always the case that at some point during the waxing process the bag looks as if you've completely ###### it up. Then simply continue evenly. A little trick: put the bag in the oven for 15 minutes. Set the temperature to a maximum of 45/50 degrees Celsius and wait. The wax will be absorbed evenly. My bag now is a lot tougher and looks like a tank. I can only recommend it. Many people advise against waxing rugged twill. But with a reasonably dry wax, it's no problem if you love that used rugged look.

Thank you for this video. You influenced my decision of which bag to buy since I have been so indecisive. I like big bags and I cannot lie.

My 258 ‘Padded Computer Bag’ has travelled on many trips, whether as a carry-on to the Caribbean, or a weekend bag. I removed the inner divider, and have enough room. Lots of positive comments at the airport. (Wife uses a matching Filson zip tote) Owned for about a decade. No probs. Love it. Great reviews! Thanks

I really like the look of that 24hr! I have been keeping my eye out for an olive 48hr, but I think that might be too big after seeing this. Thanks for the comparison

Really love my 24-Hr and use it everyday as my actual briefcase, but still love and use the old 258 a lot!

Filson price increase makes them not worth it anymore. The original briefcase went from $325 to $495 (2023).

Everything did though, well except wages, grocery costs have gone up considerably more than that.

Nice job! I've purchased both original briefcase and 24 hr as the Computer Bag was too big for my needs. I found the 24 hr is perfect for underseat when I fly and original briefcase is perfect size for daily commute to work. Love the keychain strap inside!

I have over 20 bags and my favorite is the 24 hour tin cloth. I did switch to a leather strap (lg leather shoulder strap), but the cloth one was fine.

I like the leather strap when going to the office, or short carrying. I like the cloth strap when walking longer distances because it doesn’t slide off my shoulder.

Want to get a one strap bag like this for my wife for her college graduation gift. She’ll be an elementary school teacher next year. Something she can use for a laptop, papers, books and her daily lunch and 20oz coffee thermos. Will the 256 hold all this? Want it to be big enough but not too big. She’ll load it full no matter the size!

I love my black 257 (256 was too small for me) and I am always hunting for a deal on a 24 or 48 hour bag. Nice reviews.

I use one of their nylon bags currently and love it but I am incredibly torn between the original and 24.

Surprised, no mention of the side pockets. I actually snagged an interesting 256 in tin fabric from Brooks Brothers on discontinued w tartan inner cotton lining a few years ago. It didn't have the leather surround of the top zipper though - which does add support and structure. And the tin is already less stiff and thus holds its shape less to begin with. Sweet bag though in this incarnation. Also got the computer bag in black and have gotten so much use out of it; holds a ton. I fit a 17 In in the padded computer slot comfortably. The weight is noticeable when packed but not that bad; a big bag filled is gonna be heavier by nature. Makes up for it on sheer holding capacity. Drapes and carries quite nicely though when partly loaded. That was one of the great discontinued sales btw, also picked up several Filson duffles on the cheap. Sad to see Brooks aren't carrying Filson any more, especially for the clearance sales part lol. It was an interesting collab though with unique editions.

Because of the name, I never really considered the computer bag. But actually, they probably called it that way back when laptops were really big and heavy still. I can now see a use for it.

Great super well made video! I own an old "original briefcase" and a newer "field bag". They have both served me well. It seems like many bags are "made in Vietnam" these days.

Thank you. Appreciate. And yes, some of Filson's products are made offshore now. But offshore doesn't mean worse quality.

I’ve had the original for about a decade and I love it. That passthrough and the two pockets makes the 24h seem superior though. It’s odd that it’s cheaper when it appears to be the deluxe product. Side note: why did Filson discontinue the rolling luggage bags?

@CarryologyTV2 жыл бұрын
Hey Pat, there's supply chain issues all over the globe right now, in every step of softgoods manufacturing. This is likely affecting the folks at Filson imo.
@Tony166102 жыл бұрын
The 24 is the only one of the three that is not made in the USA. So I wouldn't be surprised if the supply chain issues are affecting the shipments from Vietnam. Shoulda kept it domestic.

I have a few "made in the USA" Filson bags but we have to be honest and accurate here. It should be classified as assembled or sewn in the USA. The fabric and leather are from England. That is the majority of the material costs of these bags. Is is really made in the USA? No, did a US mill make the fabric No, did a US tannery produced the leather? No, did cows raised in America by an American "farm" contributed their skins? No, was the supply chain involved in the weaving of the fabric, the feeding of the cows, the tanning of the leather located in the US? No. How were these "made in the USA" bags made? Filson imported the fabric and leather from England and the last step of assembly was i the US. Does this justify the high cost and the chest thumping patriotism of "Made in America". We should have truth in marketing. These bags are "assembled in the USA". I own leather bags where the cow or bison was raised in the US, the skins were tanned by American tannery and the bags were cut and sewn in the US with workers paid a living wage. Those bags I would consider truly "Made in America".
