Which Fishing Line is Most Ice Resistant? Monfilament, Fluorocarbon, or Braid

Really interesting and super helpful vid. I'll be fishing a very deep lake in Lithuania ( 120ft no joke ) I have logically thinking of braid due to less stretch and hopefully better hook sets but the line freezing has made me think about floro. After watching this I'm going for braid and possibly soaking it in some kind of cooking oil to prevent freezing. Cheers dude.

Thank you for the great experiment. I too have had issues with the braid icing up my guides more. The other thing I noticed was it froze to the reel a lot more too. However stripping the ice off the line the braids work a lot better.

I use seaguar red label for my all leader aplications( all year long) for ofer 5 years now, super strong, relatively cheap and soft fluorocarbon!

A null result is valuable data none the less. Rod and reel choice can also affect how your gear deals with the ice. Personally I don't have special ice gear and I have to deal with a lot of iced up guides as a consequence.

I’m the same way with a hut, I’d rather be out in the elements with a view and mobile. I just dress warmer. Btw, I went out this morning and nailed a 22”, 4 lb Tiger trout. Made my whole week!

Yes but also in my experience with that particular line is the "slick" coating is not very durable. In the short term it might make a difference but after a few trips I don't think it would.

When tying your main line to leader. (Braid to fluorocarbon). Is it more important to match up line diameter or line test strength?

I generally try to keep them similar so that if I snag up I will break at the leader to line to connection but if snagging is not an issue then I don't think it matters.
