Freddy Vs Jason isn't perfect but I think it was still a really good execution of a vs movie featuring two horror villains. Right?!??! For a versus movie, and for the idea of mashing the two greatest horror icons of all time in a battle to the death.... it did its job with excellence! Even Alien vs. Predator was amazing in my opinion! Ronny Yu did an amazing job in bringing the two horror titans on screen with a story that fit well! Freddy kicked Jasons ass though straight up! In dream land and in reality! Even in Paul W. S. Andersons AvP, the Alien is definitely the more superior creature! Take off the Predators armor, weapons, etc.... it wouldnt stand a chance against an Alien. One Alien single handedly killed off two Predators! No problemo! Both films were BEAUTIFUL!

Early on, I always thought Freddy was at his best at Part 1 & 3. However, after giving it some thought, I think New Nightmare is my fav. I like how he’s a more serious take on the character without going overly edgy like in the remake. Plus, I think his trench coat really makes him look actually kinda badass. and it also helps him look distinct compared to the other Freddys.

Part 3. We have plenty of "scary" horror villains. But ones who have that sadistic sense of humor and where it actually works are few and far between. I feel that Dream Warriors's take on Freddy was the best blend. Plenty of memorable one liners but he still felt like a threat and like I believe why the characters in the story are afraid of him. Not every horror villain needs to be a completely serious killer with no sense of humor. The pivoting tones can be used effectively to enhance both since both are built upon building and then delivering or subverting expectations.
@brandonspain123453 жыл бұрын
Here's mine: 1. New Nightmare (I really love this Freddy. What a badass villain. Robert Englund plays it 100% straight in this movie and plays Freddy differently. Talking more growly, aggressive and angry like he's so desperate to break free already. And I love, love, love, love, love his new update. His new hat, scars, buff shape and trencoat is really neat. It is popular belief Freddy's a demon pretending to be Freddy but I always saw him to a bigger, grander entity that's entered into alternate worlds as different shapes of fear. Even Englund sees Freddy that way. He never says "Yeah, it wasn't really Freddy in that movie." But he talks like this was supposed to be the lager scope to Freddy's life before he came out as a human baby. Gives a interesting origin that leaves you thinking and talking. (Even the fjnale in Freddy's netherworld looks like a Roman city. It might not be his world. Maybe it's Hell and he lives at the bottom. See how it leaves to so many conversations that just "Yeah it's a demon pretending to be Freddy."?) And I love how he goes out of his way to go after Heather's child to take advantage from her. I love it, that's a great character!) 2. 1984 (The original felt like this is a guy that can exist in real life, despite living in your dreams. His clothes, face and claws look so real, grungy and gritty. His scars look so fresh and raw. And he's kept in the shadows most of the time that leaves him ambiguous to look at. His dialouge is always creepy and never funny, and he would whisper and never yell. I also love how his voice becomes deeper and more evil after being furious from Nancy. Scary mf.) 3. Dream Warriors (I was split between this and the next one because they're really good. But I liked Dream Warriors more. Despite being barley in the movie, he has a much more presence on screen than before and has a full fledged personality. And he takes multiple shapes and fears that makes him unstoppable to take down and this was when Freddy would take the things you love and twist them around. I also think this is his most iconic look of them all. Has the right balance to being funny and scary.) 4. Freddy's Revenge (Probably the scarier Freddy of the series. He looks so demonic and evil. I love his bony skull look. It's what the remake tried to do but failed. However, his goal to enter to reality never made sense because that was the way to kill him. But it does make up for him being so powerful in reality.) 5. Dream Master (This was the last time I felt Freddy was a threat until 7. He is a partly menacing but he also lean towards being silly. However, he does steal the show when he's onscreen and Robert Englund himself said this was his favorite performance as Freddy because he has the most freedom to do whatever he wanted to say or do on camera and he looks like he's having so much fun. I love his makeup as well but his sweater is too bright and clean. Should've been like part 3's but I love his glove design. He overall had charisma and acted like a slick badass villain and that is something I can't say I can't enjoy. Especially by a 80s action director.) 6. Vs. (Never cared for the movie. I think it was overrated. (Sorry, not sorry. :)) But Freddy was not too bad here. He definitely is closer to part 3 and 4 and part 1 where he gets strength by fear and not souls. But his makeup looked pretty cheap and goofy and his sweater is too dark to see. It's possible Rick and Morty were inspired by this portrayal since he says B**** so many times here. It's also the first film In the series to explore Freddy being more than... a child killer. ("He loves children. Especially little girls.") Good lord, he fingers a underage girl with his claws. Yuck. But just when you think he's leaning towards serious Freddy, it goes back to silly or unintentionally funny like his sufden kung-fu. This came out the same year as the TCM remake. There was no excuse to not see a grittier, darker Freddy for the 2000s.) 7. Dream Child (Lacked any charisma. No personality and wasn't scary. He looks a bit more Gothic but immediately whiplash to a cheesy idiot. His kills are brutal however. This film really does show Freddy's darker side. But it deserved a better movie. I love the idea he stalks a unborn child because it's so evil and cold and gives you real fear but I don't think the 80s were ready for the ideas and themes they wanted to tell in the movie. Freddy's makeup also was really lacking.) 8. Freddy's Dead (I hated this Freddy so much. His look, jokes and performance is so childish. Gone are the days when Freddy might cracked a smirk while hiding in the shadows like 1 or 7 or a neat balance of scary and entertaining like 3, now he's just a pathetic shell of his former self and is probably the reason why so many are Team Jason over Freddy. Because he's not scary... AT ALL. It's really a accomplishment that they made a child murderer with literal knives for fingers and a melted burned face about as scary as a Sesame Street episode. The look and performance is the equivalent of sticking a middle finger and spitting on Wes Craven and the original Nightmare. Also, his backstory in the movie sucks. (Not the adult Freddy scenes with his kid and wife.) The ones that make him out to be a textbook serial killer. I always saw Freddy as being pure evil from birth because he was "the bastard son of a hundred maniacs" but this movie tries to push the egenda that he was "tormented", "bullied", & "abused" and THAT caused him to turn crazy. Yeah, basically a Rob Zombie Halloween explanation. Which ruins the fear factor and the fact that Freddy is just 100% unfiltered f-ing evil. And his death was also the worst. (3 knives and a bomb. Ooh! So lazy. Chucky survived better than this!) Like what did 3D glasses do anything new that Nancy Thompson couldn't do 7 years prior? What made them think that would properly kill a LITTERAL GHOST-DEMON!?! Real world or not, he seemed to take the pain just fine. Just terrible. I respect your opinion but I just hated part 6's Freddy.) 9. Remake (Honestly what you said is absolutely pitch perfect for me. So that's all.)

I recently re-watched A Nightmare on Elm Street, and I came to a conclusion about the ending, since it always bothered me. It comes off as a dream Nancy is having, but I don't think it is. I think it was the dream her mother was having when Freddy killed her. It was from her mother's point of view, and she's the one who ended up dead in it. It was a sudden, awkward wrap-up to the movie, and this helps it make more sense to me. Just one of those things. Anyway, Freddy's Revenge was alright, but it probably had the weirdest line Krueger ever uttered on screen. At the party, he said, "There is no Jesse! I'M Jesse now!" I doubt he would have said that. That line should have been, "There is no Jesse. Only Freddy." That said, Freddy Krueger is my favorite slasher because of his creativity, which the fantasy elements in Dream Warriors really helped with. And I know Freddy's Dead was stupid, but it is my favorite of the series, and not for the 3D gimmick and video game references. I actually really liked the 10-year jump forward, with Springwood totally devoid of kids and full of mentally unstable adults. That was creepy. And yes, Carlos's dream death was exquisitely scary, something that haunted you after seeing it. The Dream Demons did kind of feel tacked on, if only to give Doc some expertise on Freddy's character. They did the same thing in Jason Goes to Hell, where Jason Voorhees was given the body-swapping ability and Duke was the expert, although I really liked the inclusion of Evil Dead 2's Necronomicon and Kandarian dagger. It was a nice way to make sense of Jason's resurrected adult form and connect all three series in one movie (Freddy's glove appeared, too), plus made for some awesome Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash graphic novels. If I had to rank these, I'd go #1 for the first film, #2 Freddy's Dead (I know, it's still my favorite, but I think the first movie is better storywise), and #3 Dream Warriors. The others can fall where they must. New Nightmare had its moments, I'll give it that. If they want to get even more meta, I'd love to see Horace Pinker from Shocker run through the TV-verse into one of the Nightmare on Elm Street films and fight Freddy. That would be sweet. Oh, will you be doing a list for the Friday the 13th movies? Jason's got to be next after this.

Na Nancy dreamed the whole movie thought she beat Freddy and thought she woke up but she didn't and Freddy took her away in the car to kill her. It confuses people because they are looking at it from a franchise point of view. You have to remember though no franchise was intended at the time and they had no idea Nancy would ever return I think the ending is pretty easy to follow, to be honest.

You know something? Nobody ever talks about the REGULAR Freddy makeup that Robert wears in the talk show scene in New Nightmare. I think it's original to this movie, because it seems unfamiliar to the films, and even the classic glove looks like a fresh one. Yet, somehow, it never ends up on anyone's list, and it looks so good despite it only being used for one scene. It may be short-lived, but it deserves attention, too, because it's still an original looking Freddy design if it's supposed to be "Robert in his Freddy makeup."

Whilst Dream Warriors is my favourite film, I'd agree the best portrayal of Freddy is in the original. He's at his most twisted and macabre. Having him speak in his natural voice is much scarier. No one understood him better than Wes. I'm surprised no sequel tried to go back to the chase element again. You run away and turn back to see how far away he is then boom. He's facing you. If Freddy gets hold of you That's terrifying. There was a sense of humour there but it was very dark and added to the chill factor rather than dilute it. His taunts here sound very much like those of a real life bully rather than added for effect.

Theater absolutely packed with fans predicting the outcome (including the ridiculous notion other non-advertised slashers/monsters would appear…and man, how I wish the Pinhead ending was what they went with), everyone reacting perfectly to every kill, every attack, every dream, and every single second of the showdown like it was the best booked wrestling match of all time, and then coming out to see a throng of people wanting to go and see it but being told they were sold out, so they just wrecked on through and dispersed only when the cops showed up. Very late to the party on this but… my opinion is that, if you look at the evolution of Freddy from first to last movie, his scars look fresh in the first movie, and progressively heal as the series goes on. Freddy in the first movie is freshly back, with fresh burns on his face, and is testing the waters of what he can do. Freddy at the end is mostly healed over and has now realized his full potential, relaxed in his new existence, and finds true joy and happiness with his one liners and jokes to himself while killing people in new and creative ways to help alleviate the repetitive nature of murder.

I literally never noticed his glove in New nightmare was based on the poster art gloves from the older films, mind blown 🤯

When i was young, my mom would always tune to a horror movie on tv and did not care if me and my brothers and sister were in the room watching with her. And when my brother pops in a horror vhs movie my mom would come and sit and with us and thats our family movie night. My pops was always at work LOL. Yep, i had lots of nightmares, crying, and bed peeing moments when i was a kid. Leprechaun, scream, jason, freddy, michael myers, candyman, everything man.

Honestly Freddy from 4 and 5 is my favorite. I could have watched a whole series of sequels like them.

I remember being around 10/11 and renting Space Jam from Video Ezy as a kid and the tape actually ended up being Freddy vs. Jason. Scarred me for life as a child but it was what got me into horror.

Freddys Revenge is my favorite freddy look. his makeup is just really detailed and wet looking in that movie, and freddy is definitely the darkest in the whole series

Always had a soft spot for part 4. The one liners still crack me up.

The dogs with burnt human faces was always one of the scariest things I'd ever seen as a child. I hated the second one but it was the ending that was scary. Plus after growing up on scary 80's classics during the 90's. Seeing Freddy vs Jason in theaters was soooo cool! Nice chills impression btw

Only the first 2 movies were real horror, the 3rd one combined horror elements with adventure and some action. The rest were just spoofs. But the second movie is the most horror of them all, Freddy is the scariest (best makeup as well) in this one even though the movie itself is not as good as the first one or the third.

Finally someone else who loves Freddy VS Jason. I hope the Nightmare reboot is a gruesome and unnerving and sadistic Freddy.

Freddy from Dream Warriors was the best with the comic relief. Plus you had "SUPER FREDDY" which was the bomb!
