There's something so beautifully poetic about the ending of Simpsorama. With all the flashy characters, fun conversations and melding of worlds, you kind of forget that these two shows were Matt Groening's life. Watching Homer quietly take care of Bender, assuring that his legacy will be preserved no matter how long he rusts, it truly shows just how important these characters meant to the creators. Futurama was never a copy of The Simpsons. It was its little sibling trying to make it out there in the real world despite getting knocked down time and time again. And even though its time is up, Matt still loves the show from the bottom of his heart. So we get to say farewell, one last time

@@DarianCohen The fifth series finale! I do appreciate the touch that Fry and Leela always have the final moments of the show together, with each finale kinda representing the point they were at when that episode aired. There's a running theme here: 1. Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings: A holophoner performance which shows Leela in the crowd asking Fry to play for her, even though it won't be perfect. It shows her accepting a future with him. 2. Over The Wild Green Yonder: They kiss, unsure of what their future will hold but ready to face it together 3. Overclockwise: They read their future, now with the knowledge they didn't have earlier on, and happily embrace it 4. Meanwhile: They are in their future as a married couple and now wish to relive everything again 5. Otherwise: They've accepted that no matter what the reality around them is, they will always have each other 1 is accepting their future, 2 is not knowing their future, 3 is knowing their future but staying, 4 is reliving the past and 5 is embracing every reality. While that last one didn't quite fit the theme, they still tried to expand on it, which I have to respect

Once a series runs for long enough, there will inevitably be spotlights for secondary characters and unconventional character pairings. Even if it doesn't always work, it at least attempts to flesh some of them out a bit, and provide new story opportunities.
@Canas94 Жыл бұрын
Everyone gets a back story now. Happens all the time in films now too. Side characters getting their own films. For better or for worse. Often it's not needed and only doen for money. In the Simpons's case... it sometimes works but what The Simpsons also does is ruins characters. Duffman isn't PC enough, so his recent episode took him down a more "safe" route. Despite giving him some back story. Though truly, I don't think he needed one. On that same note. After beocoming "Puffman" selling weed by the end of the episode.... I haven't seen him again. So I'm not sure if they removed him from his Duffman role entirely. It's clear the writers weren't willing to keep the original Duffman idea, due t sexist values. I'm going to be straight though. Not every character has to be a saint. Carl got some nice back story. Though, it seemingly reset him back in the next episode. Despite giving him some sort of girlfriend. Haven't seen her since. Unless I missed an episode lately. It works and doesn't. If they get their own time. I'd rather not have characters changed.

"Matt Groenings' paradox" was how I referred to 2 separate pieces of fictional media existing AS fictional media within one another. The idea was that in each respective franchise, any reference to one was altered or foregone from the other's perspective, but each still existing on the same relativistic plane of existence. So dc comics could exist in the marvel comics universe as comics, while marvel could exist within the dc comics universe as comics, simultaneously. But then simpso-rama happened and retroactively declared that both existed in the same universe with any and all mention to either being fiction removed or ignored entirely.

Futurama also had Bart as part of a hot air balloon. I think them having each other as a T.V. within each other is plausible. Like Futurama is the real world, and The Simpsons is the T.V. show in it, and any Futurama references in The Simpsons, are just Futurama's real world references. That world referencing itself, in that T.V. show. Despite the fact that the Simpsons came first. But being science fiction, that T.V. show is it's own actual world too and can merge with others. But that only works with those two shows, it ignores all other crossovers. Which is why it's simple to just have every show be it's own "parallel" world, and have it's own splits of them with different canons and crossovers. Still, however they exist with each other....they exist with each other all the same.

The Simpsons crossover episodes with other adult cartoons have been good, except one. A Star Is Burns (The Critic crossover) is a classic episode, giving us some of the best jokes in the show that people still quote, but Matt Groening hated it. The Simpson Guy was terrible (Mostly because it was actually an episode of Family Guy, not The Simpsons) and having the FG writers write the Simpson family wasn’t a good idea. And then Simpsorama, this is one of the best modern episodes of the show (Heck, it’s in my top 10 best episodes alongside Star Is Burns). Then there was the couch gag crossovers with Bob’s Burgers and Rick & Morty. Both are funny, but they’re just couch gags. I’m not counting the X-Files crossover because that’s a live action show, but it’s a funny episode too.

@@BensyBens I think the thought behind Rogers cameo was just that there was no actual character to pair with Kang and Kodos, besides him. So Roger is in a sense Family Guys Kang and Kodos, despite not being from their show. It's similar to his cameo in the first Family Guy Star Wars. There was no need for Futurama to pitch in their characters, because Simpsons already has so many, while Family Guy struggles sometimes to fill all the spots with their own characters, like you can see with the following Star Wars parodies they did. Meanwhile RIck and Morty works way better because they actually had that sci-fi setting that nothing in Simpsons besides Kang and Kodos or Futurama refrences can fill. So logically they put in more refrences to that show.

Now we need a Simpsons/Futurama crossover computer game.

How about an arena fighting game where you can choose between ALL of Matt Groenig's characters?

Honestly I miss when the Simpsons was just an in universe show for Futurama that they could make fun of. One of my favorite gags was the sewer balloon that contained Bart's left ear and right shin.

J2C have you seen the teaser trailer for The Venture Bros. Movie? What you think of it? And when you think it'll premier?

I wrote my own fan fic that I call Fry and Bart's Episode Warp Adventure where Fry and Bart relive each other's past episodes from each series.

7:15 Heh, a little nod to the Futurama episode where everyone gets their sexes swapped and the Planet Express (usually) men then do a sexy calendar photoshoot themselves (the calendar). Great video as always!

I keep forgetting that Frye was even in the episode, which isn't exactly a good thing when he's, ya know, the main character.

tbh he added nothing; unlike leela and farnsworth, he had no reason to go to springfield either. It was unfortunate, the crossover rlly should’ve been twice the length

I had a thick full print version of the cross over criss, included a fun reprint of the first simpsoms comic, I thought it had more to the story but I don’t remember

Yeah the biggest thing I don't like about the crossover is that it kind of ruins the idea that both shows are shows within each other's universes

I saw the game ad, and was like “I’ll check it out,” turns out it literally shut off today. 😂

The thing about Simpsorama that makes it weird is it almost feels like Simpsons writers handled the Futurama characters' dialogue and visa versa. That's probably not the case, but it seems that there's some stealth parody of both series made by the opposite creators. Lisa's line to the Bart spawns about Butterfingers and someone laying their fingers all over them sounded VERY Futurama-y. Unfortunately, I never got those comics, and they're way out of print for me to try and track them down. I'm disappointed in myself for not picking them up. Seems the second crossover special Bohemian Rhapsodies the Simpsons into Futurama. I don't know how I feel about them being fiction or actually part of their past, and which one works better on that level. Seems at least with the comics, we got a second half instead of just one episode. Say what you will about the Family Guy crossover, they were wise to make the special a full hour. Even got Roger from American Dad in on the bit, even if just a cameo.

idk if he was the sole writer but I know the (main) writer of simpsorama had experience on both shows

I really hope we gonna see another crossover between futurama and the simpsons also I would love to see disenchantment in it too. But i think we can still get another crossover between both shows because disney own both simpsons and futurama but disenchantment is nearly impossible i think because netflix own the rights of the show and this is also the reason why we didn’t got any references of the show in the recent simpsons seasons since disney bought 20th century fox. The ownership problem is also a huge reason why we never gonna get a king of the hill crossover with beavis and butthead

omg a plot about Burns trying to woo Mom and making Farnsworth jealous is amazing. They really should have gave more time to the Simpsorama instead of to the Family Guy crossover.

Probably useless but I’m drunk and just remembered in the fururama episode were fry becomes his own gpa in the 50s when they were escaping in the ship bender falls out and gets buried in the ground and at the end when they get back to the year 3000 they dig him up and he’s fine but like bender went back in time in benders big score so there were two benders around at the same time maybe three but I’m pretty sure biig score bender time travled back to his proper year, I don’t know just something I remembered and kinda blew my mind
