Hey Tommy worked hard on my opinion. Closed my eyes listened to both of them several times. They are both beautiful instruments. They do sound different to me. Pauls sounds deeper (in tone), yours sounds a little lighter. More versatile. Not a professional by any means. Still trying to follow you and learn. Truly, these are awesome instruments. How could you go wrong on either one, or being lucky enough to know how to play. Respect you guys so much. Happy Holiday's to you all, and wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and wealthy New Year. 🫂🎅🎄

They both sound great. In my opinion the TV Yellow sounds a bit thinner and sounds a bit dirtier at softer play. The vintage was smooth and gradually got darker as you punched it.
@TommyZampАй бұрын
I agree with that assesment.
@rangerat1957Ай бұрын
for a non-professional fan like me I would be happy with either one. i think the TV yellow had a slightly better sound. I enjoy your channel as I like to learn new things.

Thank you! It’s all about what sounds best to you and what inspires you to play!

Yeah I agree it's up to the person you play it if you can afford it then by all means get it.I think that would make a great topic for a video the Prices man way out of reach.Once again thank you so much bud for doing these great videos can't wait to hear your new album when you get it done!!

I heard the '60 LP live at Pullo last week. That friggin guitar ROCKS!!! Might be the best sounding axe I've ever heard live.

Thanks, Tommy. I thought the '60 had just a little bit of that something extra. Just a bit more chewy if that makes sense.

I have a 2024 Heritage H150 that I would put up against any new or vintage Lester. It's that good.
@TommyZampАй бұрын
You’re not the first person to mention that. I’ll have to check them out.
@JamieBarker8787Ай бұрын
@@TommyZamp I have the regular H150. They have custom core too which are higher end but I preferred the standard model with the SD 59's. I found the custom pickups to be too midrangey for my taste but everyone's ears are different!

A wise man once said, “big tone is heavy, and hard to carry.” It’s also expensive, lol. As far as vintage and modern guitars? I own both, and enjoy both for what each one does. BTW, Tommy… if you guys play symphony hall in Springfield MA, and I’m around, I got an original, except for the frets, ‘55 Jr I will lend you for the night. Darkest rosewood board I have ever seen. Hit me up. I will bring it over. It’s local for me.
@TommyZampАй бұрын
That would be great! We'll be there on the 25th of Jan.

@@TommyZamp ok, cool. How can I get in touch to you privately. I could get it to you before sound check. Or whatever time you want. I’m literally 5min away from there. Maybe some passes for me and my girl in exchange?

Nice Guitars, both sound great, but I prefer the Special for its added versatility.
@TommyZampАй бұрын
Agreed both guitars are killer and I think Im partial to the Special as well.

Great video. I prefer the 60s Les Paul jr. Bit fatter gnarly tone. Both beautiful guitars though. Being my age 65... I'm a huge Leslie West & Johnny Thunders fan & they got incredible sound out of their jrs. Now my basses are all modern. I like the mids &highs that are more prevelant in modern basses. Great advice at the end of the video and I completely agree with the assessment that its subjective. Love watching your videos.
@TommyZampАй бұрын
Thank you man I appreciate that!
@rangerat1957Ай бұрын
You might have mentioned it but is there a guitar that would be your dream guitar to play no matter the vintage.
@TommyZampАй бұрын
Hmm I don’t necessarily have a “dream” guitar because there’s too many to choose but I would love to player Gilmore’s Strat or Jimi’s Strat. Joe Perry’s 59 LP or BB Kings Lucille. Not a reissue but the originals. I think it would be amazing to play the guitars that were on the records that meant so much to me growing up and still do.
@pk952Ай бұрын
Short answer is no but it’s more complicated than that. All tone is subjective so all it comes down to is which one is right for you or which one feels right in your hands. Ps. The knobs would not be original on the 1960 junior

Don’t do this to me Tommy! I’ve played vintage I love and hate and the same to be said about modern gear! I think with the majority of vintage is just to HAVE it! BUTTTT nothing will beat an actual 59 LP! Also what are your thoughts on the UAD plugin for the lion? Buying the actual pedal is a lil out of my price range right now. Do you think it would be worth the money spent on their plugin version or just save for the actual pedal??
@TommyZampАй бұрын
I haven’t tried the plugin yet but I’ve heard good things about it. I’m a Universal Audio fan. I can’t imagine it not being awesome

Running 60 year old wood into a dirty digital rig would effect perception. If thats what your gig calls for, save the cash. Use a new one. In some ways its like saying a 67 corvette handles just as good as a 2020………in a foot of snow. If you have access, try another comparison with a deluxe reverb or something similar. Thanks for posting Ps i had a 2008 lp jr that did sound very very good.
@TommyZampАй бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion and I see your point. Maybe I’ll run it through my live rig next time and see how that works.
