Honestly, if you're already running, cycling and swimming, do you need a gym membership? Some home gym equipment will likely suffice. Some useful home gym equipment options that don't break the bank and are very effective, no need to get all of them, they're just ideas: A pull-up bar (and a backpack with rocks) A climbing rope Gym rings: can also be used on branches, places where you can't normally do pullups. I've always been able to find a place to hang them when traveling. Kettlebells: swings, clean and presses, turkish get ups,... (maybe look into Pavel Tsatsoulines minimalist programs like simple and sinister) Sled: make one from an old tire, and eyebolt, a washer and a thick rope/straps, maybe a plank and some screws. I use a cheap trx knock off. Sled drags are seriously great. They are super functional, simulate running, give you a full body workout, are simple to use, you don't get sore afterwards, they train strength, strength endurance and anaerobic capacity in a short time, they are very safe on your joints and provide a wide variety of exercises you can do with them, you don't need much weight when pulling on asphalt because the huge friction, and on a sand beach you can just fill the tire with sand and loop the strap through the tire. Dragging forwards, sideways, walk backwards with them (great for knee pain), put a thick rope on it, and reel it in, rows,.... Sandbags (Diy with army duffle bag, wood pellets, or however you want) Ab rollout thing Barbells are cool but not entirely necessary if you just want to build and maintain a good strength base.

As a parent, a gym with on-site childcare is nice to have. It is great for when you have a busy schedule and have to fit training around parental duties.

I was about to select a studio in california. Now that i know that LOCATION is a major concern, i will have to chose Berlin... 😢

Great video. My gym membership just expired, and I’m considering going to a new gym. My current gym changed management and I’m not liking the new vibe. Great things to think about.

Hi there, you are correct, this is a reupload of a video that was out very briefly earlier this year. We felt after feedback from our audience and careful consideration of the situation around the world, the video was taken down whilst the gyms were closed. Now the situation is changing we felt it appropriate to re-release the video. Thanks 🙂

If it’s welcoming to both men and women. If they have coaches/PTs you can book, if they have a physio etc, if the music is too loud/rubbish, if the TVs show total rubbish, if there are so many mirrors you can’t get away from yourself, if there is a good range of classes..and if they’re included in the price, if they are linked to for example tennis courts/clubs, if they have a basic shop for forgotten goggles or whatever, um.. can’t think of anything else. Oh-if they are well ventilated. If they hassle you in any way. They can be terrible for this. If they allow private PTs to ‘hard sell’ to you- uninvited. That’s really annoying.
