Brilliant video. This is just the kind of content that's useful for noobs like me who are trying to learn this stuff. It would be great too to get ones on the different types of sanders and where and when to use them, if possible.

nice review! i'd add one important aspect - the octagonal handles on the better hammers. there's a reason a lot of japanese tools use that shape, it gives great tactile feedback, far better than a smooth round handle. i tend to look for very old forged hammers at car boots etc. and then customise them. old quality tools can be expensive but they're worth every penny.

Good advise. Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I have been thinking about buying a set of Kennedy Dollies. Much appreciated. Following your channel and enjoying the content

Cheers jack. It’s not the most exciting video out there but hopefully it’s a good comparison on what’s out there! The Kennedy dollies are great value. You can get them from a company called Cromwell 👨🏭

Great advice, in particular that with the cheap set even if it was ground and polished they're so soft they'll not last in that condition.

Indeed, the cheap sets only any good as a paperweight

Wow! I've been using a set I purchased from Matco and thought it's normal for them to loose the smooth surface. I've never cleaned them and definitely never polished them. The most I've done is smooth off high spots and any dents around the edges. In the past I've used flux core wire and it does more shaping to the hammer then the hammer does to it. I now use 75/25 mix all the time. I'm retired and most of the stuff I do is DIY projects but I am going to attempt to do a roof repair on a junk car with a couple teenagers that live near by, just to see how it turns out and let those guys give it a try as well. Ok so now I'm going to try to do what you show in this video and see how much I've been working overtime, lol. I bet I can go back to using the old hammers I dinged up quite badly. Thanks for this video. The more I watch the more I learn.

Cheers Ed for the nice message. That’s a good idea what your doing with the roof repair and showing others. I hope it all goes well for you 👨🏭

What grinding disc and backing pad did you use in the video? Yours sits nice and flat and wears evenly, my 3M discs always buckle slightly giving me uneven wear, even with 3M backing pads. Enjoyed the video. Glad you gave Kennedy the thumbs up, I bought a set of theirs a few months ago and they seem like really good value.

Hi Andrew. I’ll have to check next time I’m down the workshop. Off the top of my head I think there just cheap discs and also a cheap backing pad. I’ll see what name it has on if and at all. Nothing wrong with Kennedy at all glad you like your set and it’ll last you years 👍

The backing pad is made by a company called dronco

I've had a set of Sykes Pickavant hammers and Dollies for 40yrs and still use them every day without any problems, however the new ones from the same company are poor compared to my old ones. Buy from autojumbles and clean them up.

Completely agree with you the old stuff is much better quality 👍
