Neville’s speech at the battle of Hogwarts is what makes him that much more worthy than everyone else. Like most characters are pretty split in the poll, but with Neville almost everyone agreed that he was worthy. Harry is dead and every single person just thinks that it is over, the war is lost and Voldemort will rule. Only Neville stands up and says that it doesn’t matter, Harry was just a person and they can still win without him. Very reminiscent of Steve Rogers’ “I can do this all day” if you ask me. None of the avengers would ever think to give up a fight, even if one of them had died or if it seemed impossible that they could win. They keep the fight going til the last man standing, because they can’t let the bad guys win. Neville understands this, unlike the rest of the characters who just stands there like idiots.

@belenayerza5578
@belenayerza5578 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, but I dont think that people were standing around like idiots. Harry was more than just another hero, like in the avengers. The people in the MCU are all equal, and they all fight with the same purpose. There might be leaders, but there is no simbol. Harry was a simbol of rebellion, of standing up and fighing against unfairness. Neville himself said that when harry stood up to Umbridge it gave people hope. Harry was like Katniss from the hunger games. He had started this thing, and people believed he was the chosen one, the only one capable of defeating voldemort. Harry had specifically told Neville to kill Nagini if he got the chance, so Neville had a purpose, something to follow. To the rest of the people there, their simbol had died. Just like in the hunger games, where Katniss gave people hope. If she had died, many of the people might have given up as well. I dont think people had given up, but they didn't see the point in fighing. They didn't have hope. For all they knew, their families would be killed because they had rebelled. Just like Aberforth had said, he thought there was no hope, and that was with Harry alive. The whole point of this battle had been to protect harry from voldemort, so seing harry dead sort of shook them, which makes sense. This is part of why what Neville did was so incredible. Harry's braveness had been what encouraged him to be brave himself, and seing harry dead, he knew he had to finish what he started. He knew that the people needed someone more to give them hope, and he did it.

Luna, yes! In the Battle of Hogwarts there is a point where Harry is overwhelmed with Dementors and Luna bolsters him up with hope and strength to keep going. Luna could absolutely wield the hammer. Shes’s the only character in the entire series not to put judgement on another character or their actions. She’s also the only character not to show any sort of temper or negative emotional flare (unless you count a brief flash of annoyance at Harry in the last movie, which I don’t because the movies aren’t canon.) She always remains open minded and true to herself and her friends and doesn’t hesitate to help them out, even if it means doing something dangerous, reckless, illegal... like breaking into the department of mysteries. She’s literally the one that came up with the plan to use thestrals. She’s the one that ultimately lifts Harry’s spirits after Sirius dies. And when Dobby dies. She’s actually strangely maybe even the most emotionally intelligent character. I think an argument can be made that she’s the most worthy to wield the hammer.

The thing is, the hammer doesn't just require purity of heart, but the courage to make hard decisions. It's why Spider-Man can't lift it in the comics, because of his refusal to kill even if it's the right thing to do. With that, I think it's just down to Harry, Neville, and possibly McGonagall. Although some of the others are good, if they don't have the ability to make a hard choice in the heat of battle the hammer won't budge.

It isn’t enough to just be a good person, Mjolnir can only be lifted by the most legendary of heroes, pinnacles of morality that even other Avengers could look up to. She was extremely principled. Also, just because a lot of mother's would die for their kids doesn't diminish the power of the act. Being a mom myself, I understand that the love is one of the deepest things I've ever felt. Also, it's not fair to judge her for her death, she had no control over the circumstances of her death. I think Hermione is too close-minded and has too high an opinion of herself. She has witnessed magical beasts, flying broomsticks, time travel, magical spells of all kinds, potions, etc... yet doesn't believe in Divination because she struggles in the class. She also brushes off the existence of the Deathly Hallows, claiming it's just a children's story with no real merit (again... _time turner)._ She regularly acts through the notion that she knows best (kinda like Molly), regardless of what others have to say, or how there are more far fetched things that she accepts. And I think this part of her would cause her to be unworthy, no matter how courageous or compassionate she is

She's also pretty jealous throughout the series. For instance, in Half Blood Prince she really wasn't so worried that it was wrong of Harry to have the Potions Manuel as she was annoyed that it was making him seem better than her. Also, throughout the series she shows disdain for students who aren't as good at something as she is, or a weird sort of hostility when she was too "ignorant" to think of something when someone else did. How many times does she say something to the effect, "Why didn't I think of that"? I don't think she could have lifted it.

Luna is the purest character in the entire series, she could absolutely lift the hammer in my opinion. Luna is the only character to never react angrily, to never judge anyone for anything, and she is always true to herself, regardless of what people think of her. She may also be one of the most emotionally intelligent people of the series. Being the one to comfort Harry after Sirius and Dobby's deaths and doing a phenomenal job in doing so, she is also the only one seemingly to notice that Harry doesn't want to deal with everyone being around him after defeating Voldemort, so she causes a distraction, and one thing that often goes overlooked is that Luna only ever sees Harry as Harry, not the Chosen One, not the Boy Who Lived, not some deity or God, just her friend Harry. Almost every other character in the series at one point reacts to Harry like a legend or a being larger than life, even Ron and Hermione are like this when they first meet him, only for the first few seconds of meeting him, but it was still there, they saw him as an idol, even briefly. Luna never did. I know the films aren't canon, but Movie Luna is possibly the best friend of Harry's at several moments, Ron and Hermione are excellent, but sometimes Harry just needed someone to be himself around, someone who didn't expect anything of him or someone to analyse and explain the entire situation to him. Ron is a great best friend, but he can get angry or jealous of Harry at times, we see in Goblet of Fire his jealousy and his anger best in Deathly Hallows, where his anger proves that deep down he believes Harry to have some amazing plan and is depending on him to save the day, Ron has expectations of Harry, however deep they may be buried. Hermione on the other hand is very intelligent and mature, but emotionally, I would say there are better people to talk to, I've always thought Hermione was Harry's book smart friend, but Luna was his emotionally smart friend. Particularly in the Order of the Phoenix film, the friendship between Harry and Luna is incredible, and I love it, Luna helps Harry alot through that film and she never asks anything in return, at the end of the film, she is busy looking for her lost possessions but immediately notices that Harry is in need of comforting and immediately helps him, this happens in the book as well of course, but in the book, their friendship is nowhere near as strong, especially at this point. I'd say the end of the book is where their friendship really begins, whereas in the film, it truly starts in the forest scene, where Luna introduces the thestrals to Harry (fantastic scene by the way). So, to me, there is no doubt that Luna could 100% lift the Hammer, just because she believes in some slightly outlandish things that have no factual evidence behind them, or likes to believe certain things that are possibly not true, doesn't change her worthiness and purity. Technically speaking, there is no factual proof of any religion being correct, does that mean we would discount any religious people from lifting the Hammer? I don't think so.

I disagree on Luna's assessment; she is humble, brave and is willing to act for what is right. She spends most of the series in her own head because no one was willing to be her friend but after Dumbledore's Army she becomes so much more involved. She is worthy of the hammer. Another one worthy of the hammer (I'm surprised he wasn't mentioned) is Hagrid. You could argue he is selfish, for example when he hatched the dragon egg during Harry's first year. However, much like Luna, Hagrid is mostly solitary and he believes he is giving the creatures a good home and family (think back to his half-brother). He is no more selfish than anyone who has a pet, magical or not.

Two things: What about Hagrid??? Is it not somewhat reductive to equate “worthiness” to “pure of heart”? I think maybe we’re kinda missing the forest for the trees in here is just thinking the hammer is accounting for purity? I think “worthiness” as it is ambiguously portrayed in the films is more about certainty of self- a known assurance of the wielder that who they are and what they may do is all definitively them. I think to be “worthy” is so much more than the passive status of being pure. I think its the very active and very arduous distinction of having figured out who you are and being okay with that. That said. Fun vid as always. Cheers

Such a cool video, props guys! You're often citing "purity" being a sign of worthiness. But I like to look back at what Odin's intent was in the enchantment. He threw Thor out because he was unworthy of being the leader of Asgard (to put it in simple terms). So, I think, that the enchantment will recognize anyone capable of leading with love and integrity. And if I were to describe Cap as any one thing, it would be "integrity." He sticks to what he believes is right, even when he is faced with realizing he himself may have been in the wrong. I agree with most of your Harry Potter list except for Newt. Yes, Newt has integrity and love in droves, and he is probably my favorite character in the whole dang Potter universe. However, as how things stand now . . . he lacks that confident leading quality, he's too distractable. He is not a leader, and I think the enchantment would know that. Just an opinion.

Tony is willing to sacrifice himself in Avengers 1, but still can't lift hammer in Avengers 2. Self sacrifice isn't good enough for the the Hammer. Rather I suspect it comes down to if someone could become corrupted. Similar to the saying absolute power, corrupts absolutely. Though Odin may not care for the absolute part he definitely believes power can lead to corruption as when Thor misuses his power, Odin takes it away. If true being super good is still not worthy of hammer, you have to proof that power isn't going to change you. So Ginny using love potion when she isn't getting what she wants, despite being very good isn't going to move the Hammer. While Luna, although we don't see her aquire great power, I don't see her ever being currupted without her becoming a different character. So she probably could. Side note; this may be why an elevator and other objects like coat racks can move the Hammer, power can't really corrupt things without agency.

Well, this is going to be a small list as very few witches or wizards have the militant mindset combined with the attitude toward leadership that Odin values in a king, and therefore wouldn't be worthy according to the parameters he set on Mjolnir. "You know how the hammer works, its about worthiness and purity of heart..." Oh dear. Yet another video about Mjolnir that completely misunderstands how the hammer judges worthiness... "What does it mean to be worthy enough to wield Mjolnir? ...there is no definite answer." Um, yes there is. Odin cast the spell, Odin set the parameters. The "definite answer" is: The qualities that Odin values and believes will make for a good King of Asgard. Most of which can be easily inferred by observation, if they aren't outright told to us. Also, Vision isn't worthy. He can lift the hammer, but he has never been able to wield, "the power of Thor". Only Thor himself and Captain America have done that in the MCU. Thor's sacrifice is completely different than Harry's. Thor offered it out of a sense of justice, believing it would make up for whatever wrongs he'd committed against his brother. Harry was doing it to defeat Voldemort and fulfill the prophecy, the kind of motivation which makes him a good hero, but not a good king. Why on earth would wanting to take the stone but not use it make Harry worthy to be a king? Answer, it doesn't. It is not a quality Odin values. Most of your picks aren't even worth commenting on since you so grossly misunderstood the parameters of your own question.

I'm gonna have to disagree with almost every "yes" here. If being willing to throw yourself into a fight you have no business being in, risking your life fighting to protect others, and being a good person was enough to lift the hammer, every single Avenger would be able to lift it. Even Steve couldn't lift it at first, and he's about as perfect a human being as it gets; that's...like, literally his super power. I could maybe accept Harry (and I do agree, if Harry could, so could Lily), but I'm still hesitant on that one, because Thor isn't the only Avenger willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good with no intention of making it out alive. Natasha and Clint literally fought each other over being the one to sacrifice themselves, and as far as I'm aware, they're both incapable of lifting it as well (well...not that Natasha has a chance, post sacrifice). Furthermore, that's not even necessarily the trait the hammer looks for, because, while I'm sure Steve would be willing to go peacefully if it meant saving everyone else, he never had to; he fought every step of the way, and the hammer accepted him. I think the "yes" characters are heroic, sure. But that's clearly not enough.

Steve did literally sacrifice himself for the greater good at the end of the first Captain America movie. He put the life of so many in before his own. How much more heroic does it get? Clint has to much baggage about his past as Ronin (see the 6 episodes of "Hawkeye", if you haven't already) and Natasha... Well... Yes, she sacrificed herself, but only because, she had no other strings attached than Clint and Clint had to be there for his family, after the rest of the avengers brought everybody back. So yes... Natasha is a solid maybe, but unfortunately unable to try again. But back to the wizarding world. Neville, is a solid yes. J explained it. Ginny is a solid no. Yes, she is brave, but so are most of the avengers. I would not trust a girl, that grew up with 6 very successful older brothers, with the power of a god. Sorry, but the temptation might be to big.

And to be fair to her, even if these things aren’t real which I agree is ambiguous considering she believed that Sirius was actually Stubby Boardman and that Rufus Scrimgeour was a vampire I think how you ACT is a much better measure of if you are worthy to wield the hammer than your personal ignorances/naiveties and every time it has mattered Luna has done what is right… Whether she was joining the DA, going to the Ministry with Harry, stoically accepting the teasing of her peers rather than lashing out about it, believing Harry and publishing Harry’s article to get the truth out, participating in battles or comforting people who need it she always seems to be a reliably good and helpful person. I think if the situation called for it she’d just casually pick up the hammer and throw it at a death eater that was attacking her friends and Harry would stand their gobsmacked for a second and then just say “Wow Luna,” and she’d just smile and say “Thanks Harry, now would you mind please helping me move this Death Eater out of the way of the door as I think he has landed in our way and I’ve lost my wand.” or something.

When it comes to the question of worthiness, I believe we need to start at the one who put the condition on the hammer in the first place, Odin. As the enchanter, the condition of worthiness would come from his point of view, and as sole enchanter his alone. Next is why he enchanted it, he wanted his son to become not just a better man, but more importantly to become a better king to succeed him. As such the worthiness is NOT "being a good guy," but "the makings of a great king/leader." Thor, once he learns humility and self-sacrifice, check. Before he likely would have run the kingdom to the ground in his hubris. Steve Rogers, see World War 2. Vision, he was brought about by the Mind Stone, as well as reasonings for his creation to begin with, so likely in that. If these guidelines are correct, then who in the wizarding world would be worthy changes up. Harry and Neville are checked, but as for others, it isn't enough that they are "good guys" or "heroic," the question is would the rule well? Would they use the hammer's power in such a way as a king/emperor, as envisioned by Odin, would?

James possibly could, if he had enough of a heel turn. Remember, Thor was unworthy at first because he was a lot like James Potter. Just before Thor lost mjolnir, before the enchantment, he was picking a fight specifically to kill people. The worst thing James did was bully someone when they were kids, so much less intense than what Thor did. There are a couple of points though, he sacrificed his life for the people he loved and fought against evil for years before that. That is all it took for Thor, it is possible almost any of the order of the Phoenix could.

Here's a question: In the Prisoner of Azkaban, McGonagall says that James told Dumbledore that Sirius would rather die than reveal their location, and that he (Sirius) was planning to go into hiding himself. Why then, was the plan changed so abruptly to Wormtail? And for that matter, why choose Wormtail over Remus as Secret-Keeper, if they had to change it? This is something that I only realized when working on something related to the books, and that I can't figure out a satisfactory answer for.
@muhammadsodagar1
@muhammadsodagar1 3 жыл бұрын
Because Sirius being James's best friend was clearly an obvious choice as secret keeper and he could be sold out but wormtail would be the last choice as secret keeper in the eyes of voldemort (because sirius didn't know that wormtail was in league with voldemort already) and he didn't choose remus because he would be next if voldemort found out that sirius wasn't the secret keeper
@absol1975
@absol1975 3 жыл бұрын
The reason is that, if the Secret Keeper dies, all people who know the secret become Secret Keepers. Because Sirius is such an obvious choice and all the Marauders would be told the Secret, an obvious tactic would be to hunt down Sirius, kill him, then have the traitor, who is now a Secret Keeper because the original Keeper is dead, tell Voldemort the secret. And Sirius suggested Peter because, as he tells Lupin in the Shrieking Shack, he thought Lupin was the traitor.

An important caveat about asking “Who is worthy to wield Mjolnyr?” Is that it’s “Who is worthy according to Odin?” Odin is the one who set the enchantment on Mjolnyr, so what does “worthy” mean to him? Odin ruled over the 9 realms and I’m sure most under his rule would see him as Just but Odin Conquered and United the realms, there would have been large groups that disagreed with his rule or even died defending their homes and families. But we can assume that Odin sees the result of the United realms as what is best and right. We can assume that Odin would see himself as worthy regardless as to how others may assign worth. ...or maybe it’s just down to whether or not the person trying to lift the hammer believes that they themselves are truly worthy
