Tip #10 for traveling to Maui: We heard this often from local residents. Refrain from asking your servers, your bell men, or anyone you interact with about the fires, if they lost a home, or a loved one. Assume everyone you interact with on West Maui, and all of Maui, were affected. As you are headed to Maui, start with our FREE Maui Travel Guide: thehawaiivacationguide.com/maui-travel-guide/

Excellent video! I'm a Molokai resident who spent three nights early this week at the Sheraton in Ka'anapali. All of us who love Maui and love Hawaii need to do all we can to help Maui recover from last year's Lahaina fires. Thank you for being such fabulous cheerleaders for our beloved Maui! Awesome video guys, we appreciate all the support and awareness you bring for folks to visit. All (4) local commercial shopping centers I use to manage in Lahaina are burned down, gone, but not our aloha spirit. Our small businesses definitly need all the help we can get from tourists to inject capital in our society that is slowly but surely rebuilding; our families depend on it. Your video makes me want to visit Maui and I live here. Aloha and Maui No Ka Oi.

My wife's sister used to live on Moui....their first house burned in the Lanina fire. Me, I sailed there once from San Diego on my schooner and spend a month in the roadstead and two months in the harbor....a rare acheivement in the 70's as a cruising boat was only allowed a month per year on any particular island. So I got December in '75 and Janurary in '76. Everything I enjoyed about Lahina Town burned to the ground....except the Banyon tree. I used to be a fireman.....the first fire that threatened Lahina was extinguished...but the officers did not post a fire watch, returned to the station and the Town is history. Shamefull. -Veteran '66-68

Be nice. When driving here, slow down and then slow down some more. Speeding and lane changes frowned upon. The Best Beach for Learning to Surf in Hawaii is Kalama Park in Kihei. Surf trucks or Surf school open daily. Best Early. Afterward surfing, try Kihei Cafe across the street for good breakfast. And only if you happen to have a death wish, take the back road to Hana or the back road to Kapalua. Be nice.
