Great review. Just bought 2020 Passport EX-L (traded a MX-5 RF). I had a 2014 CRV EX-L that I purchased new and it was a great vehicle. Decided to try the Passport this time. I'm very happy with the Passport EX-L so far. Just as an additional point, I have had a Pilot EX-L in the past. Great vehicle, just not as sporty as I would prefer. Also have had S2000, 2 Accords, and briefly, 1 Civic. In between those vehicles I had two MX-5's, 3 BMW 3 series, an SL 500 and always end up returning to Honda. As much as I love german cars, the Honda reliability always brings me back. This particular reviewer is very good I find as it's always very straight-forward information. Definitely the best reviews for me personally. I also like the Straight Pipes reviews, and even Doug DeMuro. Thank you.

I may buy an EX-L Passport, but I am glad you featured the base model. I think reviewers should have a better balance between base and high level trims because the cost of these vehicles is getting out of hand.

Just traded my 18 crv ex for a passport exl. Ride and quietness in the passport is a night and day positive difference. A.c. Is MUCH better in the passport. Towing is more than tripled in the passport. The seats are more comfy in the passport. The arm rests are SIGNIFICANTLY better in the passport(crv arm rests had almost zero cushion). Even the door handles are more solid on the passport. Crv does do significantly better on mpg. Oh yeah, and the passport has a distinct and audible vtec change over.

He skips the most important reason to buy the Passport versus the CR-V. Honda has a real engineering problem in the 1.5 liter turbo in the CR-V. Their reaction to the problem more than a year after the fact is to bullshot about it rather than fix it. Note that they put a 2.0 liter turbo in the Acura RDX which doesn't have this problem, so it's a money choice, not an engineering issue. Driven sanely and with good service, the Passport should do 200k+ miles; I doubt the average CR-V sold these days will see 125k, and the last 50k of that is going to be troublesome and expensive, assuming the engine bearings hold up. I had planned on a new CR-V, but with the non-solution Honda has doubled down on with the CR-V, the Passport ended up in my garage.
@fredhead25084 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way as you and made the same choice. When it became time to replace our 2007 CRV, I couldn't get past the 1.5 s oil issue. Now rolling in a 2020 Passport I would never look back at a CRV, the Passport is levels above the CRV everywhere. But who really won ? Honda..because I spent 8k more on the Passport lol. Deep down I'm glad the 1.5 has the oil issue, I would have never stepped up to the Passport. I have no regrets, the Passport is phenomenal.

Just viewed Chevy RS Blazer & Honda Passport comparisons & guess which one won? The Passport!!! The Blazer although more stylish & better ride quality, the Passport scored for better thought out design & a more spacious cabin feel. The blazer also scored poorly when it came to rear visibility compared to the Passport.

The only comparison which counts here is the Passport: V-6 engine which has been in development for 20+ years and a transmission which has been doing well for 6 years, versus the CR-V, a race between which will fail first, the CVT or the gas-washed main bearings in your 1.5 liter turbo. I just bought a Passport Touring. A CR-, also well equipped, was dealer prices about $3,500 less than the Passport. No contest.

The Passport is nicer and more substantial but I would probably get the CR-V between these two. Better gas mileage, same cargo capacity and the Passport"s captain's chair armrests suck. I have a Honda Odyssey now with the captain's chairs and no place to really put your right elbow. The CR-V has a nice cushy console armrest. Passport has push button gearshift. Not my preference. The shiny piano black trim everywhere in the Passport is a fingerprint smudge magnet. For a more inspiring drivetrain I would probably choose the Telluride or Highlander over the Passport among the available V6 mid-size models. Proper console armrests and proper gearshifters with 8 speed auto gearboxes.

@@t436 I agree about the soccer mom car. But what can you drive if you want a single man's car and need to carry stuff? Any minivan is soccer mom by definition. Any standard mid-size or compact SUV is soccer mom eg RAV4, Forester, CR-V, Rogue, Sorento. You could move up to an Acura RDX or Audi SQ5. Those are cool. Not soccer mom. But for the average Joe that needs 76 cu.ft. of cargo room, what can you drive that is reasonably affordable and single man cool?
