I still own an Icom IC-703 that never ceases to amaze: It's rated at 10 watts, and from my QTH in Minnesota (USA), I can regularly access spots in Europe! Not bad at all for a rig of this age; and with the inexpensive addition of a digital filter, you have the world at your fingertips. Thanks for the weekly updates fellows, I love hearing from my friends accross the pond!!

7610 is my favorite radio and it works well in conjunction with a WellBrock magnetic loop (unfortunatly no longer being produced) for RX with quite a lot of reduction of local QRM as I live in the middle of a large housing estate at 0 feet above sea level.

My first ICOM was a ic271e 2m multi mode I bought this from ICOM at herne bay, I still have it though it does have a fault. I couldn’t bare to part with it. Its a favourite. Regards Steve all the best to ML&S.

Agree with Tony on the IC-R7100 - I've been running a 2nd hand one purchased from ML&S for around a year now. A superb bit of kit and always get compliments on the received audio. For receive I operate the IC-R8600 - an absolutely amazing bit of kit

My favourite icom tranciever is the 7100. It is the first radio I ever brought and is brilliant for contesting in the ukac. I won't ever look at another brand!!

I bought the 7300 when they first came out. Excellent. Love it. The 7610 is way out of budget.

7300 superb. Simple to use great audio straight from the box with no set up, it’s also a good size to take portable. Wouldn’t be without it.

Thanks for the guide to the range Tony. I'd also advise those on a budget to look out for great Icom used radios too. I picked up an IC-7100 used which I operate from home, mobile and portable and an IC-E92D D-Star HT fully waterproof for about the same £ as Chinese HT. Both radios, though aged, continue to perform up to spec and beyond expectations. love the brand. M0TNI - the other "Tony". (I wondered who had M0TNY🙂)

Thank you for good information. My IC-718 is a gem - for my uses. No preference for ICOM, YAESU, or KENWOOD - it’s about the individual radio - and COST.

After having had an Icom 7300 and a Yaesu ftdx101 for about 6 months - My answer is FTDX-10 for a more compact rig. The IC7300 is not bad - but the band scope and ability to remove noise on the FtDX 10- which replaced my IC-7300 - is var superior - But I started with a Yaesu, so may not be neutral

Have been using an IC-746 for over 25 years ago with 100% satisfaction. Since then, a lot happened... If my budget would let me, I may choose 7610 for many obvious reasons. Though, for the first year (or so), mainly for antenna build and testing, a 7300 may be the choice... It's within a very easy reach. 73 de HA5CST

Had a 7300 for a while and its a great radio, even if you dont think about cost. Did a part exchange (good price given) of it with M&S for a 7610. Once again a briliant tranceiver despite the extra cost. The only thing I lament about the 7610 is that it does not cover 70MHz. Also have a 7100 in the car as well which performs well. I must be a bit of a Icom fan as also have their ID-50 and their 9700. All good performers for DX and local chats. The 7610 links easierly and runs well with the Acon 1200S and the Acon 04A remote Auto ATU mounted outside under the Hustler 6-BTV. I have in the past mostly had the older Icoms as well and never had problems with them.

I love the 705, it is simply perfect for me. I take it with me wherever I go, but I also use it as a base station sometimes. If I could have only 1 transceiver, I'd choose the 705. 😇

I think the Icom 705 would be my favorite from the Icom range. I love my 705. Would love to have a 905 but (for what I would use it for) I really cannot justify the price tag.

I have the following Icom radios IC7300, ID880, ID4100 and IC7100 as well as various Yaesu and Kenwoods. Of all of them the one I use the most is the IC7100. This radio is so versatile, even does HF DStar! The very neat controller sits next to my PC with the RF side of things well out of the way. Works great with the Icom AH4 auto tuner for HF. Mike G3XEF / VK2AMF.

I have the IC-7100 which is always sat next to me while I'm working in my home office - its so easy to switch form monitoring local repeaters to monitoring D-Star just with a simple touch of a single button. All that and HF as well! - I can't recommend it enough.

There is only one I would even consider, and I already have one. The IC-718. I also have a 30 year old IC-728, which I like even better. Modern radios are more computer than radio. I have no interest in those. My main HF radio is a Yaesu FTDX560, which I bought in non working condition and completely rebuilt. It puts modern radios to shame.

I have the lovely IC-7100. My first ICOM was the Q7 2/70 and wide RX. Gorgeous radio, was stolen from me unfortunately. Never been able to find another. I will be looking at the ID-5100 and a ID-50 as I prefer the monochrome displays.
