I had bought a medium amount of Mordians before they got discontinued since, while I know they aren’t the strongest, I loved their lore and their aesthetic. They cut off production mid-army building. I shall not stop, though - the Mordian 59th Armored Artillery “The Blue Steinhardts” is my main army and had held the line in all my battles, representing the Emperor’s Hammer nobly. (That I’m going to start Sisters and AdMech armies in addition to Guard doesn’t detract from my devotion to the Mordians). I appreciate your honesty though - I’m sure Mordians could do better.

I'm thinking of kitbashing from some of the Necromunda gangs for a future Catachan army to support my space marines. I was already planning to just use guard as screens and objective holders, with their S3 shooting being a nice bonus -- not caring too much about characters or stratagems. All my guard getting +1 strength gives that little bit of flexibility, allowing me to potentially counter-charge and catch some enemies slightly off-guard.

I have a big Cadian army cause it was easy to start years ago, have a full range of figs, and 8th Ed good special abilities. Just started a new regiment to fight with them on their campaigns. I wanted a Mech Inf regiment but didn't completely like the Steel Legion rules or the lack of figs. So I did a Greater Good custom regiment that has Disciplined Shooters and Jury Rigged Repairs. Run them as Vigilus detachments for the buffs and heirlooms - Hammer of Sunderance and 3 Basilisks in Wrath with a MOO + Heirloom. So soon I will be presenting the 306th Brimlock Dragoons.... using Cadian figs modded with Forge World face masks and other bits, colour scheme and markings. Seemed like a compromise given the lack of any really viable fig range other than Cadian.

Death Korps of Krieg, Cadian guardsmen or Catachan warriors. Anything else is optional, but these 3 are the manliest and manly when it comes to bravery and badassery. Edit: the 4th would be Maccabian Janisaries. Those guys bridge the worlds of Guardsmen and Space Marines when it comes to armor.

I assume this is just comparing each regiment against to each other because as is the case with all Armies/Factions/Sub-factions that share the >IMPERIUM< eyword, no Imperium faction is actually all that weak..AM being some of the stronger Armies one can field. That being said Iron Guard are actually decent as a smaller elite regiment for charge chaff, great against alpha strike and assault armies...DkoK and Eylsian actually do well backed with Tempestus also under the ally rules. all in all very good and informative video

I would play any guard faction besides cadia and catachan but i am limited because models are so hard to find and very expensive in an already expensive hobby. I've accepted the fact that i will never grace the tabletop with my own tallarn army because GW refuses to make any guard other than cadian and catachan in plastic. I would honesly prefer if they made a line of plastics and had a third regiment running alongside cadia and catachan and switched the regiment out every year or two for a new one.

You can find tons of conversion videos on KZbin where they basically just take 3rd party heads, add them to Cadians and then paint them different colours. In particular this can work for Armageddon Steel Legion, Praetorian Guard and Mordians. Even the Astra Militarum Codex has conversions made by Games Workshop using mainly Cadian parts with new heads and maybe a different backpack or sword. e.g. Ventrillian Nobles. My point is that whilst it wouldn't work for Valhalla, Tallarn or indeed many IG regiments, a simple head swap can go a long way. So why doesn't GW just release some additional upgrade packs of heads and other extras, similar to how they release upgrade packs of Ultramarine shoulder pads or Space Wolves heads. They could also release female heads as i'm sure it will make the supposed gender neutral Astra Militarum more realistic. Would also help bring more women into the hobby. Of course i would like to see them release plastic models for all regiments, but Games Workshop seem intent on not updating the Astra Militarum so this basic, easy, bare bones addition would somewhat keep some people happy with minimal effort of GW's part. P.s. also bring back Rough Riders, they looked awesome and whilst horses may look out of place in the 41st millennium, they were incredibly bad-ass for charging down huge xenos creatures with just a lance and a horse

As a yoof, 2nd edition player I had a guard army that had all the good shit you can’t get now. Metal catachans, Valhallans, mordians, ratlings, ogryns and some kinda storm trooper bods with higher powered lasguns. I highly recommend Victoria Miniatures. They specialise solely in guard regiments and pretty much any regiment here is either a kit or can be bashed by using their extensive parts selection along with their own heavy weapons. Vostroyans and Elysians may be a stretch though. They even have their own leman russ', chimeras and earthshaker guns if you REALLY don't like the idea of having money anymore. Maybe I'm just biased because I can now run space Anzacs with veterans who wear kilts because nothing says 'commando' like plaid.

I’ve just gotten into it and reading the codex and rulebook has led me to believe you can, but to get the benefit of specific rules you have to organize by detachments. Each detachment can only run one set of special regiment rules, tho there is a slight exception for scions. But you can have multiple detachments in the same army. You can also customize you models to lore wise be a regiment without their own rules or one of your own making, then run them with your choice of which set of regiment rules.

cadians are pretty good but the cadians also have some really good fire based rules and stratagems. there's the cadians which is a really cool but niche regiment but most people tend to play cadians for the most part for their artillery. though saying that, the cadians bring a unique range of tanks. i prefer the cadians though. but thats not to say the cadians, cadians or cadians are any good either, just a bit less viable than the cadians. in competitive play, you'll see cadians the most but some other players have strong cadian lists also.

i love cadian troops, espacially kaserkin,but, i don't know why games workshop don't sold that models anymore, or maybe they never done, and so i have to buy them on Etsy, by dakkadakkstore, but they seem without rules and so, how can i play them? if anyone had an idea, let me know.
