Hi there, I also would prefer to purchase a Chanel bag/WOC made in France. However, when I was choosing to buy my Chanel WOC, a few were made in Italy, some others in France. In the end, I bought a WOC made in Italy, simply because the ones made in France were not as 'perfect', the stiching was a bit misshapen and it didn't feel and look well finished. The WOC I bought was made in Italy - it was somehow better made, softer, more substantial, so this is why I bought the one made in Italy. I then found out that the particular design I picked was only made in Italy. My classic flaps are indeed made in France. Thank you for sharing.

I feel like people like made in france because of the originality. Chanel is a french brand, so they want made in france. If you were buying Gucci, you would want made in Italy, not made in France.

By law, in Europe, every brand needs to state on their products, where they were made. In the past, there was a period when CHANEL stamped the "made in" part, opposite the CHANEL stamp... on the opposite side of the interior of the bag.

Does anyone know whether the 2.55 wallet on chain is made in France? I looked at two 2.55 WOC today at different Chanel boutiques and they were both made in Italy. In contrast, all the classic WOC in seasonal colours were made in France.

They vary in production depending on schedules and availability. Some are made in Italy and some in France. A few used to even be made in Spain…

Interesting. It has almost never been the case for me. And in recent years the made in Italy Chanel bags were the worst ever. My latest two chanel bags were made in Italy and had to return both because the leather was beyond terrible. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi Loti. Just to be clear though, I LOVE Italian craftsmanship just as much! I just prefer to buy a made in France product from a French brand. Just like I prefer to buy a made in Italy product from Italian brands. Just like I prefer to buy made in Japan products from Japanese brands and so on. This is a great video topic! I always felt the SAs thought I was a bit extra checking if my pieces are made in france, italy and spain before purchasing. I can say I always prefer made in france, but I know with some pieces they are italy only, which is okay on occasion. With made in spain - I just avoid generally with Lux pieces across all brands - I have only ever had problems with pieces I have purchased that are made in spain. I even had a bag strap melt onto my blouse (well the finishing/varnish) of a v. big lux brand!

But thankfully the Lux house was really great with the repair ( it was actually a bag style that needed to be recalled, it was a glazing fault of the house) but that experience pushed me toward putting my money away for Chanel ! To add to my point I live in the UK - so i cant say we experience crazy heat it was so bizarre that experience.

WOW! But I am happy they immediately repaired the issue! But you know... even with CHANEL, recalls are not uncommon! They produce so much these days that a few products slip under the proper quality control radars. Its sad... and I have seen a few bag models being recalled as well as sunglasses being recalled... the latest model they recalled were the tweed shades from this past winter... The double C tweed logos on the temples were very poorly executed and badly glued to the temples... needless to say... it was way under luxury standards and the double Cs peeled off in some cases before they even reached boutiques. Then there is the constant issue with their crystals falling off their costume jewelry (notoriously falling off the small double C earrings! LOL!) These are just a very limited amount of examples... There are, unfortunately, way more... but this shows you that in today's overproducing and over consuming world, almost no brand is exempt from sub-par quality... so brands are sub-par all the time while others hit the low bar here and there.... but they all hit it nevertheless!

@@SuperDacob I think with a lot of these brand your there is a lot of overproduction and sadly quality is suffering in some cases - the chanel costume jewellery is such a good example ! I often just need to tell myself to stay away because of the known problems with these pieces. I wasnt aware of the shades from this recent collection but that sounds terrible that they came to the store with the double Cs peeled. However, for any customers who fell victim to this I am confident Chanel will take care of them. This i guess is one of the reasons at least people get luxury pieces too - the confidence in the aftersales/aftercare process with some of these brands.

After-care is definitely an added reason to buy luxury. However, in some cases and with some brands, even the after-care has been lacking in recent years.

Because of you I got into Chanel and got 2 pieces :) I was lucky both bag was made in France but none of them are the classic black and so I am still on the hunt for one in black but not in the classic flap. I will never pay that price 😅 What would you recommend if I want something small to carry on the ✈️.

Why doesn’t Chanel just make all their products in France? Just open more factories in France? why the need to go to Spain and Italy?

That is an interesting point Cody. They also produce other goods outside of France. They produce some leather goods in Spain as well. They produce some cosmetics in Japan too. And in the not so far away past they produced a few fragrances in the USA. I think they stopped producing fragrances in the US by now though. But in reality, CHANEL does own a few companies outside of France and those companies are specialized in certain fashion techniques. Some of their clothes are made in Italy too... and some smaller fabric accessories like camellias will be made in weird countries like Germany. I think CHANEL, in general, produces way too much so they could not meet the demand if they were to only produce in France. So in my opinion, instead of making more factories, they should slow down production instead, and they should delete a few collections each year. They now make aprox. 10 collections each year! Thats way too much in my opinion. Reduce the number of collections, reduce the quantity you produce per each item designed and higher quality, as well as reduction of sourcing out production, would occur naturally. But to do so, all these luxury brands would have to stop thinking in terms of artificial capitalist growth of 20% to 40% a year. Its not a healthy approach to begin with. LOL! Coco herself preferred quality over quantity.

I prefer just like you MIF ..definitely “cherry on top” but with price increases and special seasonal color releases, Sometimes we can’t wait to get MIF, I would get any as long as it’s in perfect condition. Dacob I wanted to cry when you mentioned jumbos , I sold my first jumbo MIF and I regret it everyday . I agree with you and your SA the leathers feel very different and yes usually on classics MIF feels less puffy and shiny etc but I have a mini (which we know it’s not a classic) that feels and looks like if it was MII lol. I get your point and I agree both bags have their beauty, by given the choice, I would prefer MIF;).

My 2011 2.55 224 reissue is made in Italy. My 2013 medium beige Clair and my 2022 jumbo are made in France. My 2022 Trendy cc WOC is made in Italy. I also have a 2006 cc top handle bowler bag made in France and a 2007 chain around bag made in Italy. My Italian pieces are in Better condition than the France pieces… that being said, I do understand the need of wanting a made in France piece from a French fashion house. It makes sense.

The correct from Chanel would be producing some models/collections exclusively and completely only in France and others completely and exclusively in Italy. Same bag in both factories is in reality not optimal from a quality stability point of view.

Hi Dacob. How does the caviar feel on yours? and what year was yours made? I just received a classic woc. The caviar leather feels/looks like re-solidified plastic and seems to have an artificial sheen . Maybe the caviar just takes some getting used to idk. It is puffy and made in France. I love yours and was thinking I was going to receive a similar quality/look.

Mine is from 2014/15 made in France and feels and smells fantastic. Back in the day the made in France were flatter and the made in Italy WOCs were puffier. The caviar on mine feels leathery even though of course it os coated and embossed to give it the pebbled texture.

All of my three Chanel bags were made in Italy (mini flap, 2.55 reissue, 19), not bc I preferred made in Italy but bc I didn’t have a choice at the time and I am not a patient person to wait and hunt it down. While I absolutely love all of them, I felt like something was missing bc they weren’t made in France and I have heard people saying made in France were better quality. The 19 bag has been made in Italy from its inception so no worries there! (I don't know if by now CHANEL started producing a few of the 19 bags in France as well but in the beginning they were all made in Italy as were the Gabrielle bags.).

Hi Dacob! Your videos can never be too long! I love hearing your discussions! I had a classic wallet on chain, same as yours, that was made in France. The quilts were indeed flatter. I loved that WOC so much. I did have several fraying threads and for another reason (I accidentally scuffed them caviar last year) I took that woc for repair to my local boutique. Long story short, Chanel deemed my woc defective due to the threads fraying, and they replaced my WOC. So, I was able to get the updated model with the magnetic closure. I was also thrilled that the new WOC was made in France. I chose between two made in France WOCs and one made in Italy WOC. To my surprise, all three of them were super puffy. I think they started to make the newer ones really puffy. I still miss my flatter quilted woc. I will always prefer made in France. I was lucky to find a maxi reissue 2.55 made in France! Sometimes we don’t get a choice sadly.

That is very lucky! CHANEL doesn't always easily accept a return as their own production flaw. They don't easily take the blame. haha. I have noticed that in general most of their recent bags are made very puffy. I have also noticed quite a few caviar timeless classics lately in the boutique and they were almost all very dull. The caviar was extremely dry and opaque. It looked like a knockoff! Not sure if it was another 31 series... really sad though.

This is not personal. I love to see a made in Spain tag on a LOEWE bag since LOEWE is a Spanish brand. Nothing against Spain. This is something against A French brand sourcing out their production to outside of France because they allegedly don’t have enough trained people to work for them in France. If a French brand makes the same product in three different countries, I will want to buy the one that is made in France. Same applies to a Spanish brand: I would always first prefer buying their product made in Spain and not sourced out to other countries.

I like items to be made in the country of origin of the company, hence I want French bags to be made in France, Italian bags made in Italy and Australian bags made in Australia etc. I have no preference about fluffiness, both looking good for me in their own way. However, I really do love aged Chanel bags which have gone flat and look aged and fabulous and 'comfortable in their skins'! People doing technical jobs (whether they are making bags or typing) need breaks to ensure that they work at optimum quality. Thank you for the video!

Love your channel! My first Chanel was a jumbo cf made in Italy which I got it in Milan in 2015. I've a medium cf made in France which I bought in Tokyo in 2016. I baby all my bags but the structure didn't stood well for my medium despite had a lesser reach compared to my jumbo. I've a lambskin woc and rectangular mini which are super duper puffy and I love it!

While I don't have verifiable source to confirm my "finding", but based on the bags I had purchased at least for the classics and minis, those made in France seem to be in better structure, leather and details. That's why I kept all the classics made in France and let go pretty much all those made in Italy except seasonal pieces in nice condition. Thanks for discussing this topic.

Thats an interesting point Eliza! In fact, I too, in my collection, have all the classics made in France and then seasonal pieces, as well as a limited amount of classics (which were only produced in Italy to begin with) made in Italy.

The "structure" point is very valid too! I have also noticed in particular minis made in Italy to be less structured and less sturdy. And I did not like that either.
