Which Is Better For Xbox 360 Games? Series X Back-Compat or RetroTink 4K?

Playing 360 games on Series X gives you a stable framerate, fps boost on some titles, forced V-Sync, forced 16x anisotropic filtering, and sometimes 9x the resolution and auto HDR. It's hard to go back to original hardware when you get these improvements.

Except less than 30% of Xbox 360 games are backwards compatible with Xbox Series. 70% of the 360 library needs to be played on an Xbox 360 console. Original Xbox is even worse for compatibily with less than 10% of the library backwards compatible.

It's so disappointing and infuriating that Companies never have integer scaling as an option, even though it's literally the easiest type of scaling to do. Instead they force blurry scaling upon everyone.

I love Xbox because it allows me to play x360 games, today there are no such great games as skate 2/3, DiRT 3 or ssx 3 or ssx 2012... actually, these are the games I spend most of my time on 😮 It's a pity that more games weren't included in the backward compatibility program 😢 like DiRT 2, tony hawks or Transformers cybertron games

The Ps5 plays all 3,454 ps4 games that were made. Any great Ps2 and Ps3 games like The Last Of US and Mass Effect were remastered and ported to the Ps4 a long time ago .

@@Crashed131963 Well, PS 5 doesn't play many of the best games from previous generations, including twisted metal (my favorite PS3 game), infamous 1/2, killzone 2/3 and motorstorm series. PlayStation 4/5 may have better exclusive games (which I also enjoy - I'm currently platinuming Spider-Man 2) But I won't play such classics as Skate/SSX/Fight Night. And today such games are no longer made, only open worlds or narrative gripping games (what Sony specializes in - gow or TLoU) Xbox simply does backward compatibility better, it's a pity they don't develop this project anymore...On Xbox I insert the RDR disc from my Xbox 360 and play, on PlayStation I have to spend $40 again 👎🏼

Retrotink can't boost a performance of xbox360 games and give you 60 fps on a 30fps game. But less than 30% of Xbox 360 games are backwards compatible so... the answer to this question is: both.

The retrotink 4k is a god send for retro enthusiasts who are serious about gaming on original/authentic hardware but for $750, I'd rather build a cheap AM4 rig with a Ryzen 5700x and RX 6700 10GB, 32GB of DDR4 4000mhz ram and turn it into the ultimate emulating machine capable of nearest neighbor scaling everything I please while also uprendering 3D game, especially every 6th and 7th gen console release with 1440p - 4k visuals even up to the Nintendo Switch. Honestly, if the Xbox Series Consoles had support for a Vulkan back end API. It would be a done deal, they would be the cheapest method of beasting through almost every single gen of game and would be able to do PS3 fairly competently as well. The steam deck does a bang up job!

Just the Series -X having faster ssd load times for Respawning , Fast Travel, Saving and loading the game to play is enough reason for me .

lol, why is this an either/or? Sometimes I am in the mood to play backwards compatible games with the Series X enhancements, sometimes I prefer to play them on original hardware. In general, I prefer to play X360 games on the hardware the games were designed for. Also, there are a lot of good 360 games that aren’t backwards compatible & haven’t been remastered.

I play every ps4 game on a Ps5 even if they do not have the 4k/60fps patch for Ps5 . Just the faster ssd loading times makes it better. Same would be true with the 360 vs S-X.

@@dmer-zy3rbIf you think CRT TVs “look like shit” that’s your mistake. People didn’t just come over with some sort of mass hysteria and fall head over heels with CRTs. There’s a reason people like them. 5th Gen consoles through S-Video look sharp and vibrant. 6th Gen systems through component look beautiful. RGB/Scart look fantastic. It’s all the sharpness of an emulator with the warmth and smoothness of CRTs. Old 2D games have such a beauty and depth to them that flat panels can’t achieve. Composite was the most common input used by far and it is a pretty poor quality signal, so maybe that’s what you’ve been seeing.

@@mmarshfairc3 okay they look good for 2d games, but for everything else they sucked. (Including the thing they were designed for, aka TV) my interest in video games starts with the 3d era in the mid 90s and I grew up on pc. So I didn't really think about the 2d games. Also I lived in Germany so PAL video on TV and it was already apparent as a kid how superior CRT monitors were: no flickering, no blur, not as much pixelation either etc. even 640x480 looked good most of the time I used 800x600 though.

xbox 360 is my favorite console of all time, I had a ps2 and my friend had a pc and he got to play all the cool games and not some inferior port of a game that isnt even the same game sometimes. Once I got the xbox 360 I got finally play games in hd and the full version like pc and also lone play such a good time.

You can run your Series X through the Retrotink and get the best of both worlds. I set my Series X to 720p and used an MClassic to replay GTA4. It was pretty great.

The colors and contrast look like an "enhanced" mode on a tv. I will use the retrotink 4k to get black frame insertion and a clean upscale.

MClassic works wonders with PS3. It literally upscales all the games from 720p to 1440p. $100 for this is a steal imo. If you daisy chain 2 MClassics you can even go over 1440p which is absolutely insane! This also works with the Switch too

I've got my 360 hooked up component though my Retrotink 5x at 1080i resolution. Takes advantage of the CRT simulate mode with bob. Change post-processing to FV310 with Slot mask and it looks the closest I've gotten to replicating a CRT tv.

Just played Fable 2 on Series X and just stopped because performance was in no way enhanced and crashed on me multiple times. Didnt try on 360 but was very disappointed that a 1st party game was running so poorly
