Which is THE BEST Caravan Club | How Many SITES do they have? | WE COMPARE THEM
In this video we discuss caravan clubs. How much do they cost? Are the benefits and discounts worth it? How many sites does each one have? We take an analytical approach for two well known caravan clubs and mention some alternatives.

I belong to the caravan and camping club, And I find they are very squeeky clean, and you get a map of all the sites along with a book with all of these sites explaining everything you need to know about that site, the last membership fee I paid was £52 I believe, but you only have to ring up to find out, I enjoyed the info.

Great Vlog as usual Paul. I fully agree with everything you said. We're members of CAMC too and have stayed at many in the UK and used them to book us in many campsites in Europe. Also used their CL sites and they have been great. We are Britstop members too and they are fabulous although we've not used it many times since Covid but we have enjoyed a britstop at a Air Museum and also a Britstop at an Icecream factory. The ultimate dream is a put carpark but we've not done one yet :- ).All good stuff. Thanks for putting the time and effort into this vid and the spreadsheet is a brilliant idea. Maybe we can meet up sometime in the warmer months and share some thoughts. Happy New Year to you and the family.

I don’t know how we haven’t visited a CL site yet. We will make sure we tick some off this year. We will also purchase the Brit Stops book this year and give it a try. Really sincere thanks for watching the video, taking the time to comment and for letting me know the spreadsheet on this and future videos (where applicable) are useful. Absolutely, if you see our van (it’s the small one with the big stickers on the back) come and say hi.

Thank you, really useful video and spreadsheet. Somehow you treat this all a little bit seriously but are never that serious, makes a good channel and all the effort shows :-) -- Our side CCC members 2017-2021 for some great family tent camping, very kid friendly sites in the hols. Let that membership lapse while changing to a small van (Camperking on a transporter base heard of those ;-) ? Now trying to decide between clubs so really this video was almost by request. Was it some of that universe manifesting guff, hopefully not I scare easily and thoughts outside of camping are so dark.

A very thorough review of the clubs and options. I rejoined the club sites we used to be members of but over the next year or am will have a better idea as to how often I’m using them/benefits etc. same with BritStops, a lot of the stops are online now and with the boom in canning recently I think many more pubs than listed are happy for you to just ring and ask if you can park overnight as they need the business too. Great to have so many options isn’t it. ATB Sue 👍🏻😊

I think it is good to try them as you say as we all have differing requirements. It was interesting to see the comparisons between the big 2. We are only in the CCC and have been for 4 years. I like them as they are not always regimented rows of vans. I’ve looked at the CAMC but it doesn’t offer me anything more so I’m going to stay with what I know at the moment. I’ve looked at Britstops and we have been discussing if it would be worth it for us. I think we may give it a go. I’ve opened your spreadsheet and as you say on an iPad you need to download it to be able to read it properly. Take care Gill

Thanks this is a useful video. I have to agree with you regarding the CAMC web site. The search mechanism is extremely clunky. The booking of CL sites can be problematic as they all have there own process. Having used a number of CAMC sites last year we found them excellent although some of the approach roads (or should I say lanes) present their own challenges. The one thing I found outstanding were the friendly, hard working and very helpful site managers. If anyone deserves to be 'recognised and honoured' they do.
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I feel CAMC need to invest heavily on what is there shop window effectively. I absolutely agree that when you arrive on a site it is the site managers that make or break the feeling of the place in general. We recently arrived at Tewkesbury Abbey CMC site (future video) and every single interaction with the site managers was exemplary. It is great when they make you feel welcome; it is your holiday after all. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

From early 2010 to late 2013 I was living full-time in my motorhome. I joined both clubs at various times. Generally to save costs I would only use campsites once or twice a week. It was always difficult to get a pitch on Friday and Saturday nights and during school holidays and it was sometimes expensive too. In winter mid week though those that were still open represented good value.

The other issue that’s important to us is that the C&CC have minimum stay periods at some sites in high season. Some pitches you can only book in advance at some times with a 2 to 5 minimum night period. Doesn’t fit with how we use a motorhome and one of the reasons that we left the C&CC for the C&MHC ( although we also got two free nights when we joined!).

Hi a factual review on some of the costs. Shame you have not experienced both clubs though. It's always difficult to compare prices as they are never exactly the same, location facility etc. I prefer CCC as more of a mix of people and younger crowd. But I have noticed if going more than 2 adults price really goes up. Where as on a private site same price for 4 adults.. we have joined local DA so mainly off grid and love it. You must check out 5 up sites as well.

Paul, I am sure you are aware that as well as the campsites you mention both clubs run rally sites and holiday meets which provide good value, but generally off grid, camping. Also both clubs give access to member discounts at outdoor and vehicle related organisation. I recouped the full cost of my caravan club membership via discounts in a single trip to National Tyres. If you can’t get “free” membership via discounts you are not trying hard enough. Finally if you are a members of the camping club for 50 yrs you get free membership something I will receive shortly as I have been a member since I was 13 yrs old😁

We've been CAMC members for a few years now. We've been looking at joining CCC for the ACR (seniors) rates. It's out of season centric so less value than you might think. Secondly, CCC site fees are, in the main higher than CAMC so what appears a better discount rate, isn't necessarily cheaper. Both have similar sites in the same areas and it's probably better to pick one or the other and save yourself some money. Even as a retiree going away for a week every seasonal month, I couldn't see us using both clubs enough to justify dual membership

I bought the Brit stop book in 2016 and found it useful. However, pitches can be on a slope and some places very unwelcoming, eg, the upmarket restaurant which made it quite clear that I was expected to eat there. At £60 per head that would have made it a very expensive stop over. Most pubs would expect you to at least have a drink.

We never use it but I understand why pub stopovers would need you to be a patron although your experience with the £60 per head would definitely be one we would avoid.

Members of both. Completely agree on the frustration of not being able to get pitches unless you book well in advance. Personal experience is that the CMC sites have nicer facilities than the CCC sites - but that is my limited view across maybe 15 sites. The camping in the forest CCC experience in the New Forest last summer was lovely. WiFi on site - buyer beware. First you may not get the speed that you thought you would (streaming Netflix or whatever may not work) and second (and more important) when I've looked at WiFi networks on a number of campsites more than half of them are not secure - they are not using encryption so a bad actor on the same site could potentially see your passwords etc. Have used PitchUp (that was good). Have tried CMC CL sites - they are small but that also means that facilities are rudimentary (even down to no grey water disposal at some). Plan your stays carefully using full exploration of what facilities each site has... chemical toilet disposal (if that matters to you - and check if they require' green' / organic toilet fluid only), grey water disposal ... and stuff as simple as showers if you don't plan to use onboard facilities.
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 2 жыл бұрын
We have been using PitchUp more lately. The CMC sites are nice, when available, and with the planned move to a deposit system later this year we would expect availability to improve. We initially used our onboard facilities on site but now use effectively “what we have paid for” when staying at a nice campsite. This saves the number of times we use our own which should increase longevity and reduces the occasions we have to empty the toilet cassette.

@@LiveforTravel Yeah but here is the life lesson.. trip to Outer Hebrides with a 2 day stop at a CMC site in Skye (the only one). For the first time in the 18 months since we got the 'van I took a shower on site. Nice clean well ventilated block. 4 or 5 shower cubicles. Empty when I went in. Got started and then some miserable git comes in and selects the cubicle next to mine and coughs and hacks continuously. I finish and and get dried and out as quick as I can but when I got back to our campervan I said to my wife "I'm sure the person in the next booth had Covid". 3 days later I tested positive. She tested positive 3 days later. We had been nowhere else where it could have come from. Neither of us was really ill but we avoided any public spaces for the rest of our trip and masked if we had to - we had ferry rides - we went outside with our Lab or stayed in the van where allowed. But there are miserable inconsiderate people out there. We've both suffered from the 2 to 3 weeks of fatigue / headaches (me and coughs (her indoors) after testing negative but finally seem to be over it. All because some inconsiderate git could not recognise their symptoms / test / did not care. Two year we avoided it then this.

I've just returned to caravanning after a break of 6 years, and last year was my first full year out and about since 2014. I'm a single caravanner since my children are grown up. I used to be a member of the Caravan Club, and never was a member of 3C's specifically because of their deposit policy. Since returning to caravanning, I have joined neither the CMC or CCC. I consider their prices too high (membership and sites). Last year I used only private sites and never regretted it. One in particular in Devon overlooking the sea (no EHU) for £13 a night. May I also offer a tip. There are many caravan groups on Facebook. I've joined a few (all free) and made several friends through meets arranged through them.

Yes, I agree with you, at one point you could book up maybe 2 or 3 weeks before with no problem, but as you say, you now have to book weeks in advance, we used to book it when we have our holiday off work, and some companies stress you can only have it at a certain time, and this is where you lose out on the week/s you want. But now I am retired, I can have a break/holiday when I want, but even then, you still have a job to book a date.

We are members of both clubs, but didn’t use the CCC at all last year as they wanted a deposit but it was such a hassle to cancel sites if we needed to and you couldn’t cancel on line it seemed, so had to wait for ages to get through on the telephone. I think it is a shame the the MCC is thinking of going the same route due to the inconsiderate people not being bothered to cancel dates they booked, leaving others not able to get in and then empty pitches on the site. It was so easy to cancel as you can do it on line with a click of a button so why did a few spoil it for others. To be honest I think we will stick with the MCC this year and cancel our membership of the CCC, as the service we got from them last year was excellent.

Interesting as we have not used CCC yet. Any business that allows you to book online but only cancel by phone is not a customer centric one. Reminds me of Sky TV. Thank you for watching our video and leaving your personal experiences as these help both us and our viewers who read them.

Only part way through so apologies if you get to this but CLs and CSs aren’t always small sites. Some are a Club area within a larger site or have a Club only fee for pitches within a larger site and some, although ostensibly limited to 5 pitches, will squeeze more units on at peak times. Probably mostly you will find the maximum 5 units ( and with a great variety of facilities and prices) but certainly not all.

We have been members of CCC for nearly 30 years, but recently joined CMC as well. One of the main reasons was that CCC's overseas Travel service has been suspended. This was a service we used most years, so now looking at booking 2022 holiday through CMC. We have camped on many of CCC's club sites and were thinking of booking on a CMC site for Easter, but everything already appears to be booked. Is this down to the no deposit / late cancellation policy? I'm guessing so. I have no problem putting down a deposit. Will have to see how it goes as to whether we renew one or both next year!
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 2 жыл бұрын
Yes there are some people that are “ruining” the flexibility of the zero deposit and late cancellation notice of CMC. Like you, we are happy to pay a deposit. Time will tell if CMC change their booking policy but I think it will have to change because too many people are finding it a problem to book. Thanks for watching and your comments.

I understand they are changing the policy later this year. At a time when costs are rising I would think the business model would be unsustainable. In principle it sounded great (no deposit and pay on day) but in practice, too many people are obviously taking advantage and booking up places that they have no responsibility (and no loss) to them if they don’t use the booking.

Another question if I may? If I do go down the MH route my idea is to do impromptu journeys , what are your thoughts and experiences re just turning up to campsites to pitch up. Some of my journeys will be in the mid season and avoiding children's school holidays. Not always will I want to stay on grid but sometimes might need a top up of water/electric. I probably think I might join the Caravan Club or similar?
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel Жыл бұрын
We have always pre-booked campsites. Never been members of the Camping and Caravanning Club but are currently members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club. There are many complaining about the price hikes with clubs although I’m sure there are genuine reasons for this; the cost of energy going up for one; and they are businesses after all. As a family of 4 the prices per night escalates fast but obviously the less number of people the lower the cost. We have stayed at Camping and Caravanning Club sites (and paid the premium for not being a member) and found them to be good. Certified Location sites (CL’s) which typically have only 5 pitches and sometimes little in the way of amenities can offer a “quieter” location for a lower price. We have stayed at a number of Caravan and Motorhome Club sites and so far at least could not fault them. Websites such as Pitch Up are useful because many sites on there are not affiliated to any specific Club and means you don’t necessarily have to join one.

We've been members of the Caravan Club (as it was called) for 43 years. When we first joined many of the wardens were ex army and the sites were run very regimented.. They then started to become more friendly but are slowly going back to an authoritarian club. We're also members of the Camping and Caravan club and can honestly say that they deserve their claim to be the "Friendly Club". Deposits are a sore point with both clubs and I personally think both clubs should be somewhere in between their current position. Having said all that I will continue to renew both memberships for the for the next few years as they are worth the money

One of the things that irritates me about the Caravan and Motorhome club is the fact that my own WiFi that I installed in my Motorhome at considerable cost will not work on their sites. Yet as soon as I leave and go through the barrier and onto the highway, ‘ping’ on comes my internet and all my emails come streaming through.
