For gum recession use only soft bristle toothbrush, gently brush, don't use abrasive toothpaste, use correct brushing technique--- watch my video on this. Make sure you completely remove plaque from gums, gums shrink when plaque is there for long time and make sure you're not clenching or grinding your teeth during the day or night.

As per some findings and opinion of experts, the negative side effects of fluoride are more - Too much fluoride can cause dental fluorosis, which is a discoloration of teeth. This can appear as opaque white marks, lines, or mottled enamel. Fluoride in the skeleton can make bones and ligaments brittle, which can lead to pain and stiffness in the joints. Severe cases can impair normal movement. Fluoride can cross the blood brain barrier before birth and may affect mental development, learning disorders, and decrease intelligence and hyperactivity in children. Fluoride can worsen acne. So why recommend toothpastes having flouride as very important ingredient and useful ?
