I always learn from Austin, and the fact he is a collector not a grey dealer apologist means he's on our side.

Another great video, I wish I lived next door to you Austin, I would build a great vintage Rolex collection but I am frightened! I do have one 2006 Daytona but it has 8 stickers so the purchase was easy. Thanks for your time.

I’ve bought from these guys. Good operation for neo-vintage pieces like the 16700. However, make sure you get what is advertised and also make sure you get a ALL links for the bracelet, as they charge you extra for links. Good luck out there!

I bought one of these because I like the size and weight but above all it has a sapphire crystal rather than acrylic which for a vintage watch makes it much more wearable.

I purchased a 16700 A-serial Swiss only from Collectors a few years back (and not the one featured in this video!) I sold it last year when prices were still pretty high for good condition, unpolished pieces with full sets. Agree with Austin, I think prices are lower than usual and will continue that way for awhile. While Swiss only dials are indeed collectible, the 16700s do not have the independent moving hour local hand and hollow end links, so I would be looking for a 16710 with the independent local hour hand and solid end links. Just a few details to keep in mind if you intend to wear these pieces regularly.
@watchsymposium Жыл бұрын
I tend to like the 16710 because you can get the Coke insert, and (as you mentioned) that extra functionality. There is something cool about the old-school 16700, though. And the 16700 is about half a millimeter thinner.

Last year (2022) I got links for my 114270 from my local AD. $52 each, had them in less than a week. The links shouldn’t be an issue imho

I really enjoy viewing your Rolex watch shopping videos. And these custom videos; so much information about the little differences of a Rolex. I learn so much from them. Too bad you retired from making youtube videos; what a loss of knowledge to us mere mortals.

These older models never really increased that much and will not fall that much either as they stopped making them a long time ago and there will be more and more collectors fighting over them.

Please explain why the "swiss only" dial are more collectible than the "swiss made" dial. The "swiss made" dial only existed the very last year on the GMT-Master and are far more rare than the "swiss only" dial.
@watchsymposium5 ай бұрын
Great point! I'm not sure, long term, which of those (Swiss or Swiss Made) is going to be more collectable in the future. But they both have great potential. Especially compared to the tritium 16700s.

Hi Austin! As a 16700 owner in Japan, I really enjoyed your video and it made me like my watch even more. By the way RCS offers Jubilee bracelets for about 155k yen. Do you have a plan to change in the future?

I think it's good advise to move away from both pieces. Remark to the 'Swiss Made' option: pretty sure there was no factory released 16700 with Swiss Made dials (the last pieces had Swiss only) which would mean it's a service dial.
@watchsymposium Жыл бұрын
I used to think the Swiss only dials where on very the last of the 16700s, like you mentioned. But I've since seen a couple Swiss Made 16700's that were A serials. I know that it was during the A serials that the 16710 went from Swiss to Swiss Made, so I suspect some Swiss Made dials made it onto some 16700s. But you might be right!

If he's buying from Collectors, he wont be getting all the links for the bracelet. They're one of the many scheisty dealers that pocket links and if you buy a watch from them, and the bracelet is too small, then they charge you for the extra links. Yeah, they're real pieces of shit
@watchsymposium Жыл бұрын
You're the second viewer to call into question this retailer poaching links. Sounds like one worth avoiding.

I have a love hate relationship with the 16700 and the 1675, the build quality is pretty awful, the new Sub 41mm is so well made and feels great that my 1675 just doesn’t get wrist time. If they ever updated a bracelet for it I would buy one because it feels so cheap.
@gbvoul Жыл бұрын
Austin why do you prefer all transitional models, over the quintessential versions of each model? ridiculous
@watchsymposium Жыл бұрын
The relative rarity has more potential in terms of collectability than a more widely produced standard model.
@gbvoul Жыл бұрын
@@watchsymposium sure, but you're paying that premium when you buy those transitional pieces to begin with.
@watchsymposium Жыл бұрын
Some sellers tack on a premium for those little things, but many (most, in my experience) don't. I don't think I'd pay a premium for a transition piece, but all else being equal (including price), the potential collectability would swing me in that direction.
