Been waiting for this! Hope to play with a Ruby at some point, but hard to imagine picking a paddle over the J2K right now. It fits my game so well and lets me stand up to power hitters and bangers as well. Super well-rounded paddle IMO perfect for anyone with some pickleball experience that’s okay customizing their paddle with a little weight.

Great review, now that you have reviewed the Apollo how would you compare the pop/power/control/spin/sweetspot/hand speed vs these two paddles? I know the length is different but not that much. Would you have a favorite between the Apollo and J2K?

So I just got my J2k and I will say, I really love this paddle. Also, just for me, I use a two handed backhand, and I really have not had too much of an Issue with it in terms of hand placement. I do have decent sized hands, and was quite surprised that I had more room than I thought I would. Maybe I am a rare case, but just what I felt.

Thanks for the review. I've had the Ruby for nearly 4 months and it has been a great paddle. You mentioned the ruby grit as having an extra layer or frost that the j2k doesnt have. I assume you mean the peel ply texture on the face? Can you clarify that a bit?
@PickleballPursuit6 ай бұрын
The ruby and some other paddles have the regular peel ply texture but also some additional spray on grit that feels super gritty at first but goes way almost immediately (after a couple of games).

Great video Luis, this was the comparison I wanted to see! I have one question, when you stated the spin numbers, you mentioned that this was after the top layer of grit wore off. What was the original spin number for the two paddles, and how long did you use the paddles when you stated the new spin numbers on the video? Thank you
@PickleballPursuit6 ай бұрын
I did not get a chance to measure the spin of the ruby before playing with it unfortunately. I wasn't even planning on doing RPM numbers but decided to do so just to give you guys something to look at. But as I stated in the video, the ruby will lose that top layer of grit very quickly (probably in 5-8 games or a single drill session). The ruby i received was lent to me and it had 1-2 hours of use. I tested the J2K production model for spin and decided I'd go ahead and do the ruby as well. I put the spin tests of a brand new 14mm Mach 2 Forza because that seems to be everyone's highest spinning paddle currently and the J2k in my testing outperformed it. It's also important to note that I'm not quite as much of a spin generator as some other reviewers so as always take all of these spin tests and serve speed tests with a grain of salt. With that being said the j2k did feel like it generated a touch more spin than the ruby which is in line with the rpm tests

What are your thoughts on it bruh?
@paulyu3575 ай бұрын
I love the J2K, after using it, the ruby seems poppy in comparison. Slightly less power and spin than ruby but the control was insanely good, I could do a full tennis-like swing from the baseline and it top spins into wherever you want to place on the court, a lot of times right in between the opponents. I added lead tape to the 4 and 8 o clock and it made the swing weight close to the ruby, made the swing more powerful, but I got rid of the tape to keep it unique from the ruby. It’s my new daily go-to paddle. Gonna try the PRO today as it came in finally but the grit texture is very smooth.

Received my j2k over a week ago and found it as advertised. Definitely found better control with it, and 3rd shots and dinks were great. The ball feels like it dwells on the paddle, so you get a better sense of placement and accuracy. As for pop, it was less than on my DBD and putaways not an issue.

I would wait and see how the J2K plays for you before selling your Ruby. Everyone's prefernces are always a bit different. You may like the Ruby better. I wouldn't go just off of one comparison, IMO. The power, pop, control, and spin on these two paddles are extremey similar. You may prefer the shape of the Ruby over the J2K.
@PickleballPursuit6 ай бұрын
I’d second @duanehensley8835 and say wait to sell your ruby. Give the j2k a test run for a few weeks before making the jump. Just because I believe it’s a better paddle overall doesn’t mean it’s 100% going to be a better paddle for everyone 🤙🏼

@duanehensley88356 ай бұрын
Thanks for doing a comparison on these two paddles. Great job! As you know I own the Ruby but like my Neonic Flow better due to the Ruby having too much pop for me to handle. With that said, I love the hybrid shape of paddles like the Six Zero and Vatic series paddles and one of the biggest reason is they have a fantastic sweet spot and so much so , any improvement beyond their sweet spot wouldn't make enough of a difference for me to go with a slightly different shape like the J2K. The show stopper for me on the J2K is the shape itself and taper near the handle. As much as I love the Neonic Flow, I prefer the shape of my Ruby better. Just shairng my views on this.
@jss84946 ай бұрын
Day 2 with my J2K and I am loving it. I bought a Neonic Flow to replace my VP Flash but didn’t care for it and went back to the VP. This J2K is som much better than either of those 2 paddles!

@@jss8494 What didn't you like about the Neonic Flow and what do you like about the J2K?
@jss84946 ай бұрын
The power and pop between the flow and the J2K are very similar but the J2K shines and out performs the Flow in the control and sweet spot. Hope that helps.
@duanehensley88356 ай бұрын
@@jss8494 What I've discovered about the Neonic Flow that I don't like is, I originally thought it had enough pop but after playing with it for a while now I soon realized its very similar to my Vatic Prism Flash and doesn't have enough pop to consistently block speed ups. Too often the ball just dies off the face of the paddle when trying to block a shot at the net. So, becasue of that I'm going to try the Bread and Butter Loco. It just may be what I am looking for in a paddle.
@jss84946 ай бұрын
The Loco was originally on my list but after adding shipping cost the DBD was the same cost and was what I was going to order until the release of the J2K. So far I have no regrets with my decision but would love to hear a follow up if you go with the Loco. My biggest complaint in the Flow was the lack of control compared to the VP and now the J2K. Good luck with your decision!
