All this time I've been doing it the wrong way! No wonder my decrease looked such a mess!! Thank you SO much! :)

Your video helped me so much. I figured out halfway through my current project that I’ve been doing it inside out and would need to flip it right side out but was worried my stitches would look different. Seeing you demonstrate how to continue after flipping was a lifesaver!

Yeah so I finished 2 entire animals the wrong way! 🙈 I was wondering why my invisible decreases were visible, and my BLO's all weird, so I googled and found your video. Thank you!!!

Oh no! I must admit that I also made my first ami inside out too (although it wasn't quite as obvious, because invdec didn't exist back in 2007...!) The good thing about having done it 'wrong' once - or twice - is that I guarantee you'll never forget to turn your work right-side-out again 😊

Thank you for this. Just learned all the ones I've made were inside out lol
@planetjune9 ай бұрын
That's okay! Unless you were using invisible decreases (which are glaringly obvious from the wrong side), it really doesn't matter - they'll just have a different texture from most amigurumi. Think of them as 'different' instead of 'wrong' 😉

Thank you so so much for this! I was working on a dachshund amigurumi pattern that I already finished for my mother, and while I liked how it turned out I struggled a lot with the color changes in the face. I'm making the same pattern again for my grandmother, and because I was struggling again, I turned to your color changing video to see if that was the issue. I was doing the changes correctly, but I noticed that you were crocheting on the outside of the piece, which is what lead me here. I can't tell you how grateful I am! This explains all of the issues I've always had with amigurumi patterns with color changes; the pattern is turning out perfectly now!

Hi June I didn't realise that you should turn the work around after working a few lines and I have just been turning my shapes inside out once completed. This was after I discovered that the right side ends up on the inside of the cup shape or circle, etc. Is this why I can't actually see the little v shapes on my "right" side? Should I be turning my work inside out? It suddenly does not look right! Thanks :)

Someone pls answer how do I know when to flip it
@planetjune Жыл бұрын
You can flip it after you’ve crocheted a few rounds and the bowl shape has started to form, or at any time before you stuff and close it - it doesn't matter when you flip it, provided the right side ends up on the outside in the final piece!
@ericnlisa4Christ3 жыл бұрын
Why does nobody tell you this lol. I kept wondering why I was at the back of the cup stitching when I was watching how to do invisible joins etc and everyone else was at the front 🙄 Thank you for sharing this.

I'm planning to write an ebook on what amigurumi patterns don't tell you - there's a surprising amount of assumed knowledge! It'd make patterns incredibly long and unwieldy to explain it all every time in every pattern, but you're right - how are you supposed to know?!
@gsellll9713 жыл бұрын
Same!! I've always wondered why everyone else crocheted on different sides than I did and why mine was so bumpy compared to theirs... Oh well, better learn later than never 😭

Thank you for this video. I just started crocheting. One question If I turn my work after some rounds to have the right side on the outside will the rest of the stitches still be on the right side?
@planetjune3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's right! You can turn your work at any point before you stuff and close a piece - after you've turned it, all the following stitches will end up right side out too.

Hi June. Thanks for your video. I'm trying to make my first Amigurumi project. I've started it over so many times due to this issue. I'm right-handed. So, should I turn the right side out after a few rounds? But won't that make the "head" look like all the rows don't match? What about invisible decreases? I'm still confused!
@planetjune5 жыл бұрын
I think it'll make more sense when you actually try it, Mike! You can flip your work right-side out at any point before you stuff and close a piece. After turning, your stitches will all still match; the only difference is that your stitches will be worked around the outside rim of the piece (instead of the inside rim) after you've turned your work - your hook will be at the front instead of the back of the hole. (See the photo and caption in this section of a different tutorial of mine for a visual explanation of that: www.planetjune.com/blog/amigurumi-help/fuzzy-to-brushed-crochet/#insideout - it doesn't make sense without a picture!) As for invisible decreases, they'll *only* be invisible on the outside when the right side is facing out - invdec leaves a bar on the wrong side of the work, so you *must* make sure your pieces are right-side out before you stuff and close them, if you've used invdecs!

@planetjune5 жыл бұрын
If you're saying both sides look the same and not like the stitches I show here, you may be making 'yarn unders' instead of yarn overs in your stitches - that changes the look of the stitches! Take a look here for my video on that: www.planetjune.com/yarnover

Hi, I thought I was doing it wrong 😀 however, if I turn it right way it seems like the joins ( slip stitch ) is sticking out. When I have it wrong side up the joins are way more smoother..
@planetjune2 жыл бұрын
The flavour of amigurumi I teach uses a continuous spiral instead of joined rounds, so there are no slip stitch joins to worry about (see my magic ring and stitch marker tutorials for a demo of how that works: www.planetjune.com/magicring and www.planetjune.com/stitchmarker). Could you do that too? Or if the patterns you're using have joined rounds and you want to make less visible joins, you could try my Perfect Stripes techniques (www.planetjune.com/stripes) to minimise the look of the joins. (And if you want more advice on amigurumi that use joined rounds, you'll have to find someone who teaches that method - it's not my area of expertise!)

I see. I was having a hard time after flipping mine inside out for the right side out. I didn't know how to continue crocheting bc I couldn't do the same thing I had been doing when it was other way around without being in a impossible awkward angle. So I'm supposed to now go from the outside to inside?! Really?? But won't that be totally different from what we had been doing the entire time?

So in other words the yarn that is hanging in the middle shut be like a bowl of noodles?
@planetjune Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's why we make the magic ring that way, so the starting tail ends up hidden on the inside! (But some people could also be making the magic ring incorrectly, which would leave the tail hanging on the *outside* when they pull it closed, so your rule only works if you started your piece correctly!)
