As a nearly pure tank guard player, this is exactly right. I struggled vs necron warriors at first. Once I picked up a Punisher, I no longer feared hordes. Granted, I only run 1, but still.

This is spot on. It brings the necessary weed wacker fire power when all you have are tanks. I played a 7th edition tournament list againt a pure tank list and I played a pure infantry list and the two punishers did the lion's share of killing. 5 rounds of those 20 something shot gatlings almost tabled me. I still won on victory points but it was looking dicey.

Still is for me. Just play 9th. It cannot be hard to find someone who would play ninth it wasn’t for me. I genuinely don’t understand why most non competitive 40K players HAVE to play the current edition no matter what. You don’t see this “there’s a new edition and it’s all we can play” mentality in DnD, MTG, Pokémon, bolt action those are just what I know. I just see nothing but game breaking to excuse more rules and more books from a gross retail first company; still full retail for old stock; third party rules stifling; removing models from the game and zero official GW support for old rules. You’re a comp player I get it it’s GWs fault they don’t allow their game to breathe in all forms like MTG; the comp scene will fail in time. My main problem is what is your excuse if you’re just coming in to play with neighbors on Sunday?? The adherence to the current edition by non comp players is the fault of those players. It’s so silly to me for a non comp player to complain something was only powerful for 3 weeks before the edition change. It’s your own fault for letting GW tell you that money you spent was no longer worth anything and you believed it.

The vanquished should have had (anti x) and or devastating wounds. And it's ability should either stay or become it procks dev wounds on 4+ that would have made it actually tastey. We as guard players aren't afraid to pay points for good stuff. The executioner weapon is a tad below where it needs to be for this edition but with it. It would have been nice if they kept the 'plasma vents' and incorporated this into its ability and made it something around either a fnp against the mortals when overcharging. Or some reduced wounds from it overcharging. And encouraging you to not use its standard profile.

The vanquisher should absolutely not have a 50% chance to do 9.5 mortal wounds, at least from a "playing against" perspective. It was already boring and unfun in ninth (what's that? An effectively unsaveable attack that ignores invulns and does an average of something like 11 wounds that wounds on twos, hits on threes rerolling, and autowounds on six? Great, my tank has been one tapped, that was fun), but then at least only d3 of the wounds were mortal. Making all of them mortal is not the answer, and also defeats the point of removing "ignores invulns" (which was one of the big issues from ninth) even further.

You're right mordian, I do think you're wrong about the executioner. It's better than the battle cannon. The additional AP makes it comparable against heavy armor, and it far out performs the battle cannon against everything else except terminators.

I suspect that the rules for the demolisher cannon were a copy-paste job from the Space Marine Vindicator that has a dozer blade integral to the model. That would explain it being able to fire in combat. That's a cool tank too.

Eradicator is supernice to tankshock with to stop charges against other russes. Just bring one allong the main groups. And your opponent often miss to shoot it out before due to that they try to priorities the "important" russ next to it.

The Eradicator's and Demolisher's abilities don't allow them to shoot plasma sponsons into melee enemies which is a bit of a shame... can fire the big gun up close but not the sponsons

100% on the fly in the ointment that is D6 damage for the demo, took two in a local tournament and everytime I needed a big hit to kill a heavy vehicle or a big monster, rolling 1s or 2s was such a bummer and swung games big time against me

IMO armored spearhead is the strongest ability in the army. See a target on an objective? Because it triggers on ALL attacks; rerolls on the battle cannon, rerolls on lascannon shots, rerolls on multimelta shots, rerolls on HK missile shots, and you can charge infantry and tank shock before getting full rerolls on your melee attacks

I don’t get why the vanquisher gets so much doubt now. In 10th so far my beloved vanquisher has one shot killed two vindicator tanks, a wraithlord 4 games in a row a and countless other monsters and vehicles. get it hitting on 2,s rerolling 1,s and it naturally re rolls wounds with good reliable damage.

@@andhil370 i do get that point but I take enough tanks that I can happily afford to let one stay still. If you are firing at a target that’s daring reconed by a scout sentinel and give it take aim you can’t miss, hitting on 2’a re rolling 1’s. I find you have to do a lot more ground work to get some things to work in 10th but it’s definitely worth it.

My guess is that the Demolisher and Eradicator serve the same role on the battlefield, only the Eradicator is the long range cover blower and the Demolisher is the frontline cover blower.

Vanquishers are great against Towering units like Wraithknights. In these cases they need to be taken in at least a pair. At worst if it is targeted by a Wraithknight, that beast will need to usually use both of its cannon to destroy it, if the Vanq is accompanied by an Enginseer. It's an expensive decoy, but the second Vanq will normally real damage on it in your turn, usually requiring a re-roll for the to hit or to wound dice. The pair costs less than one Knight. This is the Guard army required to defeat the current best army. vanquisher needs a coaxial rule, plus rerole to wound vs monster and vehicle, plus devastating wounds, but no heavy. executioner needs the same profile as the regular russ cannon at least, plus reroleable hazard tests. these two needs to be fixed fundamentally. all bad other leman russes are just a matter of their point cost, so no hard changes needed.

If the Vanquisher was BS 3+ with reroll 1s to hit, it might be worth it. If the Punisher had some sort of suppressing effect like the Basilisk it would be better. If the Executioner got +1 to wound when it supercharged, it would be worth it. The Eradicator actually sounds decent now. Still over costed (especially against enemy armor), but decent. If the regular Russ and the Demolisher was D3+3 damage, they would be good. The Exterminator is good. Now, if they got all that ~and~ they were -50 points, they would be almost as good as Eldar tanks. Almost.

I know D6 damage is traumatizing, but each one that gets through will score 3.5 damage on average! It feels bad emotionally when you roll poorly, but I think we should set that aside and play the odds. The more you shoot, the more consistently you'll hit that 3-4 damage

Keep in mind most factions have defensive stats they can use, setting up a exterminator and creeds debuffes is always off set by Smoke, Amour of contempt, -1 to wound, rotate shields etc. So most of the time you are just baiting out CP which isn't bad, but it means your LRBC will still be bouncing off terminators with 2up + cover + armour of contempt. Or custards with -1 damage. Or they can make overlapping fields of fire cost +1cp. Unfortunatly its very easy for your opponent to just see what combo you are setting up and counter it with their own cp or free strats. 200point models should be able to carry its own, and LRBC or LRExterm simply cant. A demolished can hold its own, but for 220pts its range is so short, its damage too swingy, and its basically paper without an invul. I have 6 LRs and I hope the balance data slate fixes them, but until they they will sit on a shelf.

Wait, dumb question. But when you roll D6 damage, do you do that for extra shot? Say the demo cannon wounds twice, do you roll 2D6? Or one D6 and both wounds is that damage? Also fun thought, the exterminator can get 1st rank fire, 2nd rank fire order as it's a rapid fire weapon lol. Doubt that math hammers out better than Take Aim, but still might be fun at rapid fire range as it'd get 10 shots.

No damage is rolled once. It counts for every wound you make. So if you wound 3 times you deal 3 damages on 3 different targets. Meaning you can one shot big infantry like terminators or custodies with 3 wound each.

@@Baktrianos Ok so it's one damage roll per gun then? I know for flat damage any overkill doesn't "spill over" to other units minus mortal ones. Just been out of the game for ages now. Last time I played was when tanks still had armor value. Trying to get a feel for the rules again. Local store is closed till tomorrow so can't go bug them for a refresher / into game. Gonna get back into it in 10th. But most of my army is grey shame so RIP. Got 60 of the new Cadian's painted. Maybe 50-80 old troopers (gotta get them from a buddies house) and few old russ's and should still have the old Chimera / basi. Rest is uh grey or in boxes... >.

Sorry to disagree with the other comment, but you need to roll each D6 damage. So lets say you fire you demo cannon at a squad of terminators You roll the number of shots, lets say overall you get 6 You then roll to see how many of those shots hit, lets say in this case 4 of them do Then you roll to see how many of the those 4 hits wound, lets say they all do because its a really strong weapon Then the termies roll their saves, and they stop 2 of them You then have to roll the damage for the remaining 2. You roll these 1 at a time Lets say the first one rolls a 3, great thats 1 termie dead but then the next one rolls a 2, booo you have not killed that terminator as it has 3 wounds so it is left with 1 left Hope that all makes sense :)

I actually think Vanquishers are important for armoured list. Most enemies will have a limited amount of AT. Doomsday ark sat behind a ruin? Place your Vanquisher pointing at the ruin, he has to move to hit you, so needs 3s, most the time you will survive or they have to commit more firepower than its worth (remember to pop smoke). If you survive, the opposition won't, the cannon + Lascannon + HK does work. Alternatively it scares your opponent into playing cagey with his AT. All 3 outcomes are a win, regardless you are effectively neutralising the biggest threat to your army. In non armour lists its probably not worth it though.

Reroll to wound on 5s is only slightly over 50%. I don't think exterminator is good against heavy tanks. I'd say exterminator and battle cannon are fine against 3 wound infantry or 2 wound with fnp

3 would be way to good for a generic leader and how are they supposed to get you to use lord solar if the only other way to get vehicle orders is acualy decent at doing so. Reminding you hear that because lord solar needs mastervox to issue orders effectively he cost 245 not the 125 that his data sheet shows. If he did bot also give you a cp and provide a wrong timing redeploy he would kinda suck. As it is you are probaly better off taking 2 tank commanders 1 with grand strategist for 2 orders yes thatvcost 425 not 245 almost double but you get 2 lemon russes to kill things with generally tougher and way shootier then lord solar and his command squad and infantry caddie.

The Executioner is wasted potential. It should get bonuses to hit units that are ABOVE half str and at full str. It would play so well into the high risk/reward of the weapon as well as the story of the suicidal, glory seeking crews spearheading the charge in one the Guards most premier tanks.

starting to realize that you dont need leontus or a tank commander if you can get the same bonus's from orders as you can from various unit abilities and strategems. most of these apply to any units firing at the same targets too...and creed gives free strategems meaning you will likely end up with more cp then you would with leon's bonus points as well.

GSC tend to need long range fire support, they are fine at close range damage with their own units. So maybe go for a Battle Tank

Nice video but... Did I just hear that the exterminator has the number of shots? It only has 4 shots!! It is only good as a force multiplier, and even as a force multiplier, in one have I fired those 4 shots and missed with all of them (including a cp re roll). It´s damage output is not good at all , since it is the other russes that benefit from his rule, but not him. I use it just to get my battle cannons to their rightful AP-2

the worst one imo is the tank commander, hitting on 4s is AWFUL. last game i used it in it missed more than it hit. utterly worthless.

I'm deathly tired of Games Workshop bureaucracy - "One model for only one system." Just look: everyone loves the Horse Heresy, but it's just a commercial product parasitizing on Warhammer 40,000 glory. It's 40k models, 40k designs, old 40k rules and 40k lore. And everything that belongs to HH now is taken from 40k and is now practically dead in 40k! The Horse Heresy evokes nothing but hatred in me. Today they showed a new Leman Russ - an icon of Warhammer 40,000 - but for the Heresy only. This 100% means that “tomorrow” Leman Russ will be removed from 40k forever, it cannot be otherwise. Because bureaucracy. Say "thank" to the Horus Heresy and "Goodbye" to Leman Russ!

Just play 9th. It cannot be hard to find someone who would play ninth it wasn’t for me. I genuinely don’t understand why most non competitive 40K players HAVE to play the current edition no matter what. You don’t see this “there’s a new edition and it’s all we can play” mentality in DnD, MTG, Pokémon, bolt action those are just what I know. I just see nothing but game breaking to excuse more rules and more books from a gross retail first company; still full retail for old stock; third party rules stifling; removing models from the game and zero official GW support for old rules. You’re a comp player I get it it’s GWs fault they don’t allow their game to breathe in all forms like MTG; the comp scene will fail in time. My main problem is what is your excuse if you’re just coming in to play with neighbors on Sunday?? The adherence to the current edition by non comp players is the fault of those players. It’s so silly to me for a non comp player to complain something was only powerful for 3 weeks before the edition change. It’s your own fault for letting GW tell you that money you spent was no longer worth anything and you believed it.

Demolisher and Executioner. Demolisher because big gun and ability to ignore firing restrictions in close combat. Exterminator for rapid fire 4 twin linked autocannons and synergy with extra AP for concentrated firepower.
