From my experience, if you're not a content creator, most MacBook users will be perfectly fine with the performance of the M1 chip. In fact, the processing power of the M1 is often overkill in many cases. What matters more to these users is RAM and SSD storage. Therefore, instead of purchasing the latest M2 MacBook Air, many people would be better served by using that money to upgrade the RAM and SSD on an M1 Air. Saying that 8GB of RAM is sufficient for those who don't need to do video editing is misleading. I've seen many people, especially university students, regret not upgrading to 16GB because they didn't realize that having multiple Chrome tabs, PDF documents, and Office applications open simultaneously can consume a lot of RAM.

I’ve had an M1 Mac Mini for a couple of years now and use it as my main working computer. I recently got the M1 air on Amazon, for portability and for working on the go and holds up nicely to browser multitasking and having the applications i need open while working. it’s still a perfectly capable machine, and with Amazon’s pricing and the ability to get apple care on it still, shouldn’t be slept on. Especially for on the go tasks, and if you’re needing a spare monitor, and you have an iPad, you’re set. I personally just traveled and worked and used just my MBA and iPad Pro and had no issues.

I bought the MacBook Air M1 on January 4, 2023. A really nice laptop and a good screen size. The battery also lasts a long time. A whole day. Really recommend this one too. One thing that annoys me a bit is that a lot of dust sticks to and around the keyboard. otherwise a very nice laptop for school and daily use. the battery health went down quickly for me in the beginning. after about 4 months I had about 70 battery cycles and battery health was already 98%. now with 106 battery cycles my MBA M1 battery health is still 98% so nothing to complain about for the rest. @hb__989 Жыл бұрын
The extra cores will not make a HUGE impact. The point to keep in mind is that when it comes to our day-to-day use cases, the raw spec comparisons showcasing the differences between the lower core and higher core machines in the form of benchmark tests are not going to affect how we use the machines essentially. If you're someone who is coming from an Intel based MacBook or Windows laptop, I guarantee you that you'd be blown away by the performance of the Apple silicone. As far as RAM is concerned, it would be better to spec up to 16GB if you're thinking of buying the MBA or the 13" MBP.

The M1 Pro MBP has worse battery ( 12 hours on Air vs 8 hours on M1 Pro) and is much heavier ( 1.2kg vs 1.6kg) to carry around though. There are still some new or refurbished in MBA/MBP M2 price. 1.8c/14c comes usually with much slower 512gb and M1 Max is much more expensive an more power consumption. 2.If you don't really need 32gb for ram hungry apps like After Effects and other full pro programs buy a 16gb. Ram is so quick and so good optimized with fast SSD and SoC then swap is unnoticeable. 3. 16" the same spec is good for people who need bigger screen, better battery life and don't care about portability. It isn’t more convenient, doesn’t charge faster and only feels cooler. Instead of MagSafe apple could’ve provided another usb c port imo. The bezels from M1 to M2 are the only reason to get the M2, everything else is the same, isn’t really worth the 100-200 bucks more. I’d still recommend the M1 to anybody on this earth, they even go refurbished or used for even cheaper. If u get the M2, ur not really doing anything wrong, it is also an amazing machine but doesn’t justify the price difference.

An 15inch Air with upgraded SSD would be around 1600€, the 14inch Pro costs 2000€ where I live. 400€ difference but double the RAM, better display and speakers. But on the other hand fanless would be also great and the bigger screen too. I fell in love with the specs of the pro but once I used it for a couple of days, it became very obvious that it’s just way too much power with too many downsides: it’s very thick and heavy, and this is actually very important if you use your laptop casually: you put it on your lap, put it on your couch or bed when watching a movie, take it all over the house (at least I do) and the weight and thickness just don’t fit that job imo. Also the screen is too small if you like to watch a lot of content on it. This is all opinions of course but I 100% think the Air is pretty much made for users like yourself (or me).

Guys what do you think I just returned my base MBP 14 M2 today and I wanna get an Air M2 15. I thought the 14 was a lot heavier and thicker than expected, I would really like a slightly bigger screen and realistically 95% of my use is light web use (I even hate having too many tabs open lol). Is it worth waiting for the M3 air 15? Of just get the air 15 m2 right now as it’s already discounted a bit?

Thank you for your great video. For "normal users" (mails, web browsing, documents and excel...), is ot really a problem the slower SSD in 256Gb Air M2?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. MBP14 M1 pro is the best bang for buck for 99% of users out there right now. Get a MBP14 M2 pro only if its a good price. The differences between M1 pro vs M2 pro are minimal, and to me, not worth the additional outlay. If you're able to hold out till Q2 2024, wait for the new MBP14 M3. I got a MBP14 M1 Pro 10c 16GB / 1TB for 1500 USD brand new on sale from Apple. I couldn't ask for more. It is an incredibly capable laptop. XDR display, great webcam quality, outstanding speakers, all in a laptop. It's incredible. Apple outdid themselves with M series silicon. I am not even an apple fanboy (this is my 2nd mac, 1st was a 2020 MBP13 intel from work - the difference is night and day)
@pearlos Жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you the MacBook M1 Pro 14 inch is the best bang for buck, after that it's the MacBook Air M1.
@nicktw8688 Жыл бұрын
It's 2 years old. The M2 pro has superior GPU.
@pearlos Жыл бұрын
@@nicktw8688I agree but, slower ssd and ram because it's one stick compare to two on the m1 models and it costs $250 more the 14 inch m1pro costs $1500 compare to $1750 for the m2pro
@MonsieurGuy Жыл бұрын
@@nicktw8688 99% of people won't be able to utilise the better GPU in the M2 pro, they're better off saving money and getting the M1 pro on discount. Also, you say the M1 is 2 years old like it's suddenly old and outdated. Most similarly priced laptops still can't even match the M1 pros performance. Stop drinking the KOOL aid, the M3 will be the jump that everyone expected the M2 to be.

The 13 inch m2 MacBook Air is easily the best value, it’s 100 dollars more then the m1 at $1099 instead of $999 but u get so much for that price including MagSafe, fast charging, faster M2 chip, much brighter and higher res screen and it’s just so much better then the M1 version, honestly the M1 is about 3 years old and I would only buy it under 800 dollars and no more then like 700 dollars, if u think the M2 is more expensive, u can find the M2 air 13 for 900 dollars
@Ziyang-Xie Жыл бұрын
Given that my intel macbook still working fine, I would get a 15inch mba with M2.

The 13 inch M2 air is a really good price, I’ve seen it for like 800 dollars, the 15 inch M2 air is cheaper now too that the M3 MacBook Air 15 and 13 inch, they have the same hardware as the new m3 airs It smokes the M1 MacBook Air because it’s got way better hardware and is way newer and better thermals then the m1,
