Good choices, but I also like the Crayola super tips. It feels smooth when I'm coloring with them, and they don't rip up the paper.

Thank you very much for this. I have colored with pencils for several years but have just started experimenting with gel pens and markers as well so this was very helpful. One warning for your audience. I recently a set of Arteza Inktense and almost 1/3 of them were either dried out or had not been filled during manufacturing. I bought these from Blick so I am sure it was not a problem of being on a shelf too long before being bought.

Hi Wilson! Ooo thanks for the warning. Do you mean the Arteza Inkonic Fineliner pens? I’ve been tempted by them when they go on super sale (as Arteza do quite often!) but haven’t given in yet… now you’ve said about your experience with them, I think I’ll avoid them! Thanks!

I realize I am watching by your very informative video 2 years after you made it, but its wonderful! Really good info testing these 8 sets of pens on different quality papers we run into in our various coloring books. The only brand I wished you had included is Stabilo, the "88" 0.4mm set. I have need for super fine point pens in a few coloring books by Johanna Bradford and Colin Thompson. Your video has helped me narrow down my choices to Stability and I already own Tombows, so I'm ordering Arteza Inktonic set of 120. Thank you! Greetings from San Francisco, California.

The only other thing to consider is open stock. You can buy the Tombow individually. So you can not only replace one if it wears out but can buy just the ones you want.. so for example if you plan to use them as a base under pencil you may only want the light shades. That said Ohuhu does sell a skin tone set and a pastel set.

That's true. I do love my Tombows. The Ohuhu Pastel Art Markers so make a lovely companion set for the Tombows too.

What an interesting comparison. I have a load of ancient Staedtler pens and lots of Supertips, but I barely use any of them because I hate the streakiness of them. I will put them onto a palette & apply them with a water-brush though. In the circumstances, being so cautious, I feel laying a transparent ground is the way I feel most confident. But I will bear your results in mind, because I've often thought the Twi-markers would be a nice addition.

@DieTabbi Hi! Yes, waterbased markers are better for not coming through to the other side of the paper. It does depend on the paper in the book (some are books have thinner paper) and also some pens are wetter than others but waterbased are much better than alcohol markers. Happy Colouring 🥰

My favorite markers this is just my opinion so for coloring pages that are dubble sided i perfer super tip Crayola or color pencils Markers you can find them at Walmart for pretty cheap probably and they dont seem to really bleed through and work pretty good the downside is you well probably be able to only do like Three or two coloring pages before they run out next if you are drawing and then coloring i like posca paint markers works great 👍 next if your doing one sided coloring pages i like ! Alcohol markers or color pencils alcohol markers well bleed thats why i dont recommend them on two sided pages because it well ruin whats on the other side but pls put a paper under just so it won't get on other pages it bleeds pretty bad next cavans i recommend any paint of course i haven't tried posca markers on a canvas yet i don't know if you are supposed to even use them on that idk 😐 like i was saying this is just my opinion there is probably plenty of other stuff you can use that i just didn't think of hope my comment was helpful bye for now!

The one thing that you didn't mention is what is one of the most important things. How much do they come closest to the color. I think some of them weren't as true to the color green as others. I look to true color much than bleedthrough. Even if there may be that I'm more likely to buy if the color is good.
@ArtJourneyUK
@ArtJourneyUK 7 ай бұрын
Do you mean how close the colour of the ink was to the barrel / cap of the pen? I didn't cover that because it's irrelevant to how they work in double-sided colouring books (which is the title of this video). Bleedthrough is the most important factor in this scenario.

Thank you for this very fine test on 3 different qualities of coloring books and their paper for us. I am limited in budget and have never used water-based markers, so I am grateful that you showed me different water-based markers and found one that might be in my budget. I have had so many problems trying to buy alcohol markers, that I am about to give up on them. They have broken the budget bank , all for nothing, and it will be a while before I can even save for anything. Water-based might be quicker to save up for.

Omgg this is what I've been looking for! I have the exact colouring book of Johanna Basford and I have been searching for colouring markers for ages that would not bleed through the pages. I have actually asked the ohuhu seller if it would withstand on the pages of the adult colouring book but as soon as the seller mentioned that it'll bleed through, I was totally devastated. But then I found your video and it was so informative! Since I saw that ohuhu works well with Johanna's book from you, I think I'm confident to purchase it. I was just wondering if it's the same between alcohol based markers and water based markers in ohuhu? You mentioned the ones you are using are the water based ones right? There's only alcohol based ones sold here so I'm wondering if they work the same?

Hi! 👋🏻 The Ohuhu Alcohol based markers will definitely bleed through the Johanna Basford pages, they bleed through any paper! It’s only water based markers that won’t (which is what I showed in this video). You can get the Ohuhu waterbased markers from Amazon, link is in the description. Good luck!

For colouring books I would think most would do. None of them are lightfast so they will not keep their colour for a long time. But that is not needed I think. If one is interested in that then it is Faber-castell pitt series that has the needed pigment for it to be lightfast. But Staedtlers artist is nearly as lightfast and would do just fine and it may be a better option since it is a mix of different materials.
@ArtJourneyUK

In double-sided colouring books, as the video showed, the worry is which pens bleed through the paper.
@hurmur9528
@hurmur9528 8 ай бұрын
@@ArtJourneyUK I think both pens I mentioned (Faber-Castell Pitt and Staedtler artist) are very good for that purpose if not the best. They are known for just that. But they may be a little bit on the expensive side. Staedtler is cheaper though. And they will last for a long time. Another option could be stabilo… and it may be a little bit cheaper.
@ArtJourneyUK
@ArtJourneyUK 8 ай бұрын
@@hurmur9528 this video was more related to affordable colouring supplies. Pitt Artists pens are £150 a set (because they are pens for artists!) so using them would have not been useful for most colourists. Also with regard to colouring books, they're kept closed on a shelf, so Lightfastness is not as important as it is to an artist who's work will be displayed on a wall. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
