I would say yes to this. However black would’ve won anyway. We see this as black was the one to burn the fastest in the first few areas, which are the same length as everyone else

It seemed like Yellow could of gotten to the end faster than Red, but that collapse just Kept it from proper perfection.

plus yellow had the longest path because the back and forth at the start added probably 2-3 inches to the length it had to go, it had a lead on red before that and then red caught up because yellow had more to light

That was very interesting, I like the designs and appreciate the effort put in to this video, it was great. However, there's just a slight problem. It's not very accurate. Black and brown had straighter, flatter paths than yellow or red, which certainly affected their time, and the bridge for yellow looked like it didn't have as much matches put on it when it fell. But I'm not exactly an expert on matches, so take this with a grain of salt. 🤷‍♀️ Edit: I don't think it would've change much, though, so whatever.

Considering the first section, up to the arrow and slightly past, is exactly the same, in both length and match head count, and it was clear from that, that black is faster, with brown second fast. And this makes sense physics wise. Black absorbs all light (or majority of all light, reflecting as little as possible), which means it absorbs more energy. That greater energy absorption, equates to faster burn rate. However, yes, for a scientifically accurate experiment, which the warning at the beginning said was for science and entertainment purposes, and not to try at home, so scientific accuracy was already out the window for entertainment, the tracks should've been exactly identical.

No you're very correct. Black also had its circle filled up towards the beginning, resulting the fire to spread faster, and therefore black won

@@lindalaufer2949 that's not really relevant considering how much faster the fire spread on the black matches getting up to the circle. Black lit the fastest, blacks arrow burned first, and the fire made it to the end of the black lane significantly faster.

I don't get it, doesn't the match that wins also loses because it lights and goes out fast af wouldn't you want your match to stay lit as long as possible just as much as getting it lit itself, that should be the real question, what match stays lit the longest?

i chose black, it has the straightest path and since the darker a color sit it absorbs more heat then black must spread faster and more efficiently edit:i was right, one could argue that it was because of the path but even before anything major on the path happens black is still ahead by a lot

@@beardiemom No, it doesn't. The heat produced by light that weak is so far beneath the heat of the flame that it can't even affect it. The logic is sound untill you realize that if this was the case, blacksmiths welders would wear white aprons for protection, noone would ever consider a dark one...

The designs were different, but the starting paths were the same. Honestly, I should have expected the results considering that darker colors absorb more heat, which was reflected on how fast it took off at the beginning, especially in comparison to red.

If you vary both color and shape of the path in the same experiment, you cannot tell how the color of the match affects burn rate. Do one experiment in which the color of the match varies and the other variables are held constant, and do the other experiment in which the width of the path varies instead.

I think it's safe to say that the darker colors make the match burn faster since typically black absorbs heat faster compared to other colors like yellow or white.

@@loaf414 Basically this, really. Dark colors absorb heat while light colors tend to reflect it. Anyone that's played on a blacktop as a kid will tell you that it's an inferno on a hot, sunny day, but any white or yellow lines, like a basketball court or something, will be significantly cooler.

The black path was able to create a much hotter flame with the circle patch that spread easier. Brown had a similar thing going on but not as condensed. Red couldn't seem to get lit so that ruined it's run.

Yellow lost because of a flaw in your design. You used hot glue instead of something like AC Glue that doesn't melt in fire. The bridge fell over way before the fire even reached it but because of the heat on both sides from the two others it softened the hot glue enough that it could no longer hold the weight.

Black followed by brown checks out. Darker colors absorb heat faster which makes the chain lighting faster. So black->brown->red->yellow makes perfect sense.

I would have thought that the flame propagation would be much faster than it was...Over in about 4-5 seconds. My experience, is that match heads flair up quickly. These burned, almost like wax candles.

I see a lot of people complaining the tracks weren’t even but only the yellow path had a significant disadvantage, and it barely mattered as its bridge fell before it got there, reds bridge fell too but not before it got there. So, from what I saw if conditions had been optimal yellow would have probably got third, retaking the lead over red that it lost in the wavey path, but black and dark red were far and away ahead of red and yellow.

I think compounds of each match color affect how they performed. Maybe. I was analyzing least resistance paths and red had the best path or 2nd but it moved at a snails pace before the arrow (common factor on all paths)
