Agree that the MS3 gen 1 is fun. The torquesteer kind of wakes you up as you hit 3K. It handles well through the turns. Added anti-sway to the front suspension of my 2008. The hatchback format is versatile. It's an ok long-trip car. It was not particularity capable in the snow, but I make that comment after coming from an Audi A4 Quattro wagon and a Subaru as my prior family cars.

Your not gonna want a Mazdaspeed mx5 unless you want an mx5. The mx5 has too many quirks. 1st gear is too short with a 4.10 diff. The vehicle also has a noticeable secondaru torque hit at 4500 rpm because the pcm switches to closed loop. Honestly they are great fun, but the ms3 had fewer compromises

As a Speed6 owner who circuit tracks their car fairly often, it doesn't actually understeer as much as you might expect, and it's actually really easy to get it to oversteer. Doesn't even really seem to matter whether on stock suspension or coilovers (granted even with coilovers I try to kind of mimic the stock suspension geometry just at a lower ride height). The Speed6 actually makes quite a good track car, even with the higher weight. It's actually, in my experience, less prone to understeer than any of the Speed3s I've driven (I've tracked those quite a bit as well).

This is just my opinion, but I'd get your high pressure fuel pump done, then look into an accessport so you can monitor your temperatures on track so you know when to let it have a break, another thing would be a brake upgrade, pads, fluid, discs and lines, so then you don't constantly over heat them and burn them up, though that's not engine reliability. After that, I'd take it to the track and note the temps to see what's the biggest issue, should you be looking at a new radiator to cool down the coolant, an oil cooler for oil or intercooler for intake temps to stop it pulling timing

A 2nd gen speed 3 does not have better rods pistons and sleeves it’s the same as gen 1. Gen 2 came with a better vvt setup

@@LifeOfTuners exactly. Fell for the stupid magic banjo bolt solution on my speed 6 before I said the hell with it and got a BNR S3. Couldnt be happier. Only prob is I snapped all my mounts eventually. Now i have upgraded jbr and awr mounts and its.....damn. One more mount left though and that's the dreaded rear diff mount. After that, were good to go.

Okkk, generally a gen 2 is more reliable, as it doesn't have timing chain problems, so it shouldn't have too much big ticket repairs, but what's really important about these cars, is how they've been treated, if they've been maintained and modded well, they can be great, and let's say you can afford a decent 1st gen or a tatty second gen, go with the first gen, cos a tatty one will have many issues, however if it's a decent gen 1 vs decent gen 2, go gen 2 as it should be cheaper to run, and if your in the uk, road tax on a gen 1 is like £550. Either of them will be as easy to learn manual in as each other, if you have any questions, feel free to hit me up

I mean I may be bias, but I'm pretty sure what I'm about to say isn't bias, the Subarus have much worse reliability, the wrx 5 speeds are glass, the head gasket issues and the fact that they're more sensitive to mistreating, plus they don't handle as well, I'm pretty sure that's not bias lol and I don't mind answering questions, in fact I enjoy it

All Performance Cars I’m 16 saved up money and am waiting to buy my first car i’m still kinda of new to cars i only got into the hobby 4 months ago. i found a speed3 for a decent price gen 2 and has 200k km/mph on it how much long would it last or how much more life does it have it in. also first mods i was thinking of doing is 1.high pressure fuel pump 2. blow off valve 3. short ram intake 4. down pipe 5. new exhaust or muffler delete. please tell me your thoughts on the first 5 mods to it if it should be something else or keep the list thanks. i’m for canada btw.

Oh nice, 200k km is pretty high, but if it's been maintained well it's alright, if it hasn't then that could be concerning, though the lower the better Those mods seem really good, and their even in a good order! That should be enough to get you into the 300whp/340bhp range.
