You can't go wrong with Yamaha. I have owned Mercury, Yamaha, and Suzuki's. Yamaha's are well built motors and the materials they use to build them hold up well in saltwater. That's been my experience. My 22 foot CC has a 175 Suzuki and it's got plenty of power to push it. As a matter of fact, I can rarely run wide open in the bays due to the choppy bays down in Texas. I have regretted being cheap and not getting the 200. Lower RPM's translates to less gas useage.

2:51...Speaking my language now. Plenty of power and the OptiMax DFI is quite a bit lighter. I've seen 7-8 mpg on the monitor with the 200xs on our Allison GSE. 5:45 Don't how many times I had the handle of a long screwdriver in my ear trying to pin-point the source of a noise.

A boat that size is too small for a V6 outboard. Most days will be too choppy to hit your top speed anyway. I just got Yamahas and love them. But Suzuki makes a 140hp that’s basically a tuned up 115 four cylinder.
@WillFixThat11 ай бұрын
We aren’t looking to hit our top speed! 200hp will be more efficient.

Blank out the hole in dash and add an aluminum angle (painted black) at the bottom to gimbal mount the 9in Simrad (maybe even larger).
@WillFixThat11 ай бұрын
That's an awesome idea I will let Matt know so we can take a look at that option! Thanks for sharing.
@jeffray492611 ай бұрын
Is there a way to share a pic of my set up? My dealer had a guy that could make a custom piece of black phenolic board to plug the hole. I used 3in x 3in x .125in alum angle (other sizes can be used) on the outside. Used etching primer and then black top coat. Behind the helm, I used a 1x1x0.25 alum angle to span across the hole and through bolt to the angle holding the graph to stiffen things up. Works great in my bass boat.

Doesn't matter what you put on it, you are a busy boat mechanic and will never have time to use it. It will sit right there under that tarp most of the time. Just like mine out here in my yard staring at me while I turn wrenches with the phone on my shoulder talking to three more impatient customers !

I ended up putting 2 chartplotter/fishfinder units on my console since it was so small like yours. It was very hard to split the screen on a small unit to read both sonar and chart, even with a 9 inch. With 2 units, you don't have to split the single screen, and you have backup in case a unit goes down, which is super important for me.
@WillFixThat11 ай бұрын
Great idea.

Since the boat is under 20ft long, it should have a Coast Guard nameplate that lists max Hp. I would go with that if in your budget.

You said the same thing I say all the time . All this technology is great when it works, but it doesn’t work long enough for me . Less tech is the best tech in my simple world. I own trucks and the new diesel tech is absolute garbage , yes easy power but those damn sensors leave you stranded way way to often. That 7.3 you have is more reliable than the new junk .
