The games did look good, and they looked much smoother. However they only showed games made by PS studios/Insominiac/Naughty Dog (i.e. games that are super well optimized). I bet you new AAA games that are rushed out the door (like 80% of new releases) will only net a 10-20% improvement over the standard PS5 - im being generous with those numbers. If the games are CPU intensive, the pro will probably be a stuttery mess as it becomes CPU bound. Time will tell..

I think one thing that the whole PS5 vs XSX thing demonstrated is that real world performance depends not just on the raw number of GPU cores, but also how well the entire system with all its components is optimized to work together. A PC with a hardware that matches the PS5 (or Pro's) in terms of raw specs will not perform as well as the console, because it's not optimized as much. More software layers, games less optimized for the particular configuration. Numbers can be deceiving.

@@bellissimo4520 Too bad that in the end the performance of the PS5 remains that of the 6700, which also has 128GB/s less bandwidth, and their weight was on 30fps. The same bandwidth that the boss says makes little difference, but then he leaves it low and also underclocks it when compared to XSX. The 6700 has a good margin of OC on the VRAM, but it wasn't even attempted, instead the downclock to make the 6700 worse than the PS5 was also done when compared to XSX. You have to put ballast on the PC, otherwise you'll realize the bullshit you've been getting for ages... And yet not even this time that the comparison is possible can you see how things are. Hope is different from truth and chatter... How should the correct comparison you're looking for work? Do we give 20% to consoles because we're used to it?

I still love my Series X and Series S (and so do my kids). FSR, VRS and other Dymanic Resolution solutions is keeping them relevant. But it is nice sitting at my 7800X3D PC with an 7900XTX thats running a memory overclock, gpu overclock and undervolt. Looking to keep it rolling until the RX 9000 series launch with hopefully a true flagship.

DF you've fallen for the biggest marketing trick in the book and missed the "up to" before that 45%. "Up to" means exactly that, it can be any where up to 45%. It doesn't in any way mean it's constantly going to achieve a 45% uplift, in every game. Far from it, that 45% uplift will only occur in extreme cases. The typical and average uplift you will experience in most games, will be below that 45%. Just like with GPU's on PC, the amount of uplift you get will vary on a game to game basis. One game might show a 40% uplift over the PS5, while another might only show only a 18% uplift. Which is why GPU's on PC use the average percentile, taken across several games. That then denotes how that GPU compares to others. They don't use the very best result from a game, but an average result taken from all of the games tested. It's marketing BS, just like when Nvidia states "up to 60% increased performance". Which will only occur in rare and extreme cases. Most of the time will be more like a 30-50% increase. While "on average" it's performance increase is around 40%. It's also done, as a way to fool people into believing that it's better, than it really is.

They are not going off from the 45% increase in itself…. Did you even pay attention to what they said? It’s based on the actual SPECS of the card, not because you would get a 45% increase in FPS in every game…. It’s an RDNA2 GPU with 60 compute units. So a 6800 (or the downclocked RDNA3 alternative) is the closest fit. Since neither of them have the ML and RT components that the Pro will have, they looked at the closest Nvidia card that would match those specs.

I have no idea how this happened, but my previous GPU choices somehow match with the playstation consoles. I had a GTX 970, which is basically the PS4 Pro, and after that I upgraded to the 2070 Super, which is the PS5. Now I have a 4070 Super, and I'm gonna explode if that happens again.

Regardless of the comparable performance of the PS5 Pro, I doubt it will allow me to play my games at various settings like I can on PC. It could be more powerful than my RTX 4070 but I know for a fact that most of my games will hit 120FPS to 240FPS at 1080p on PC. Will third-party devs go back and add further support to their games to mirror their PC counterparts witht the PS5 Pro? I doubt it.

Oh, I haven't been paying too much attention to all this, but I heard someone repeat this as 4070TI. I was wondering why they would say that... Consoles do a really good job punching above their weight, so I'm not sure why so many people act like it's going to be equivalent to the performance you'll see on PC even with the same hardware though. I believe PSSR is gonna decide what it equates to…i use a 4090 and had a 4070, both delivered basically the same fidelity in most games. On the TV DLSS Quality (1440p) and Performance (1080) look identical (not when sitting cloe at the pc monitor tho!). So if PSSR can reach near DLSS level, it would mean they only have to achieve 1080 60p…if the can invest all their new power into THAT, id pretty much expect it to be able to run most games in High Details with mid level RT…that would be almost indistinguishable from PC then… I just prefer the console User experience so much, but the Fidelity and Performance was always lacking…im very interested in the ps5 pro…id wished they pushed it even further, sold it for 1000€ and pack even more punch, but i realise thats a fantasy…

To me, consoles have always meant causal gaming. 1080p maybe 1440 at 30fps or 60fps. If you want 4k 120fps or 8k 120fps that is why you spend $2000 on a good quality gaming desktop. Consoles should stick to $400 or $500 price points.

Having to restart a *game* to apply different graphic settings is something that happens more often. As long as good games continue being released and hardware costs don't spiral out of control, I think we're all good.

Its good if you wanna play on a couch on a big oled tv and dont wanna have a big Pc around via hdmi. Ive gamed on pc in the past but now prefer to game on 55” sitting back (multiplayer, if it is single player you can even go bigger 65,77 etc)). It depends on your usage. Also this way you can invest more on a better (qd)oled tv which usually beat monitors in picture quality.

7700XT is 35.17 TFLOPS, PS5 Pro is 33.5 TFLOPS. Both with AMDs double fp32 pipelines, so they are comparable to each other (not with RDNA2 in PS5 base model). PS5 Pro has more ray-tracing units . So it’s going to be better than 7700XT in games using ray-tracing. PSSR also offers better upscaling quality than FSR3. But I wouldn’t expect a drastic difference. It’s not a game changer as FSR3 exists for PC and PS5 base model already.

7700XT is around 10% slower than RTX 3080. If we assume 7700XT raster performance and RTX 3080 RT performance, then PS5 Pro would be somewhere in the middle depending on the game. But PS5 Pro seems to be lacking infinity cache completely. And the memory bandwidth is lower than RTX 3080. So it’s likely going to be lagging behind at 4K. It’s the best iGPU ever built, but I don’t think it will be able to match GTX 3080.

I would have guessed for a RX 7900 solution since AMD already brought the 7900 GRE and in general those 7900 cards already come with "descend" RT performance (often matching RTX 30 series). Does this PiSSR mean that devs have more work to do since there's just another optimzation method more now? Is it not easier to optimize for like FSR 3 which can than be used on consoles AND PC?!
