just put a forged wossner piston in my 2011 kxf 250 and i couldn't be happier with it, first time running wossner and will definitely run them from now on.

yo any update on the cerakoted piston you did a while back?
@Henrik.Yngvesson2 жыл бұрын
Forged aluminium expands more so that's why you need a little longer warm up as the cylinders are cast and also warms up slower than the piston. Don't know if it also happens on 4 strokes but on 2 strokes you can get cold seize if you run hard without warming up.

I learn a lot more from your videos than I do most other dirt bike related channels on KZbin. The way you explain things is very clear- which is genuinely appreciated. Because the content is both informative and interesting, it always makes for good viewing. Looking forward to the next video.

When doing a frame up rebuild on my 2007 RM 250, I went with a Wiseco YZ 250 GP piston (same one RC4 ran). My OEM cast piston still looked really good for its age. Just wanted everything fresh and to last. I heat cycled/broke it in as per Wiseco’s instructions to a T.

Had a friend who did 50,000km on original piston on a 04,only rings and pin changed every 4-5k and not always,a forged will never last that much

Kinda bummed that waossner doesn't make a wrist pin bering to complete the top end rebuild kit. Unless I missed it on their website.

This is exactly why the best pistons are now 3d printed. You can't mill the most efficient bridge box designs. We've got 3d printed pistons running 1400hp in 6cyl applications and no problems, while 10% lighter than forged.

I have a noob question. Regardless of brand, in a hypothetical case of failure wouldn't a forged Piston damage a cylinder far worse than a cast ? I may be rebuilding my Cr250 soon.
@Daniel456324 Жыл бұрын
No, you would experience scoring of the cylinder walls if you didn't properly warm the bike up prior to riding. With a cast, you just start up and go, but with forged it expands more rapidly.

Just another good topic you could touch point on is 2 stroke cast/forged pistons with steel sleeve cylinders vs nikasil cylinder. But for be it’s forged wisco. Just my flavor of pizza.

If you heat up those crushed washers with a torch then set them in a piece of steel they'll bounce back to there shape.

Do you change the cylinder when you put a new piston or do you check the cylinder first to make sure it’s not egg shaped

Around 6:07 Man I must be a spoiled new age kid. I mean it when I say I don’t like carbed 4 strokes. I really do not like them at all. I’m spoiled, and not important that I know of hopefully not too many get offended lol.
@hachtenduro78242 жыл бұрын
Injected has more potential than a carb can ever have. - but the potential is often not fully used by the manufacturer, as very many signals from the sensors have to be computed and inputs for ignition and injection have to be generated in precise manner. Here lies the beauty of carbs. They have a certain behaviour that is hard to mimic by an injection system. And that is a nice feature, it makes the motorcycle feel like a living organism rather than a computer on wheels. This may not increase your laptime, but can contribute to the joy of riding.
@augieh61462 жыл бұрын
@@hachtenduro7824 hmmmmmm. Would that mean you can get more out of an engine with a perfectly tuned carb? Rather than efi. Or efi can be made better? Maybe carb tuning is easier than efi tuning??

The problems with cast pistons are what you state, user error. They get used way past where they should, slapping about in the bore, and guess what, they shatter. Big surprise. Personally I'm happy with cast. When I was slower I'd change at 150hrs, but now I won't go past 50hrs. I've had engine failures but never a piston failure. I do have one forged but it's because it was the only type for a bigbore hi comp setup.
