I always took it as head cannon, that if a new pokemon is rare or hard to get in its premier region, that meant it was't its home or native region. I always felt the home region was a region where you could easily find a pokemon, or was tied into the world more thoroughly. Like how you can find Rotom in the wild in Paldea, but only have gift or event rotoms in like Sinnoh. The first time I thought this was with Pinsir and Scyther, who could only be found in a special Zoo like Safari area, but you could catch them in the while the next region over in Johto and other regions.

That's a good point; most Safari Zone Pokemon are probably imported from other places, even if that's just the first time we saw them, it doesn't make them "From" that region...

Porygon is obtainable very quickly in Platinum. Yes, it's also in the trophy garden, but, that's after the National Dex & Pokémon Radar are obtained in DPPt/ BDSP. As soon as you reach Veilstone, you can get it in the house behind the Pokémon Center, which makes it a free Porygon. You don't need the National Dex or Radar to get one. I get WHY you mentioned the trophy garden, but, NOT the Free one in Veilstone City before you get the National Dex because it wasn't a gift in DP/BDSP.
@emperorcubone6 ай бұрын
That Definitely makes it better, and easier to gain access to its shiny new evolution! But I stand by that even a Post-Game Trophy Garden is STILL more worth it than getting 9999 coins at the Game Corner!
@luxrayblast6 ай бұрын
@@emperorcubone I didn't say it wasn't better than the game corner, I just meant that the free one in Platinum cancels out the Trophy Garden Porygon. Also, there's RNG involved that determines IF Porygon is in the Trophy Garden. Luckily you can manipulate it if you save & reload before talking to Mr. Backlot. Now, in D/P, it's the ONLY way to obtain Porygon besides Pal Park. While BDSP has Legends Arceus for the easiest & quickest method. Yes, it's more steps, but, at least they are minimum Level 20 in Distortions. Also, you don't need to play until the Terarium in Scarlet/ Violet. So, all the Sinnoh Games can get Porygon in special ways. D/P- Trophy Garden Platinum- Veilstone or Garden Remakes- Garden (Radar) or Move from PLA PLA- Distortions

my winner is Inkay. I had one in my team in ultra sun and omg it and specifically it's (back then) signature move topsy-turvy is insane that gen -- it inverts the targets stat changes which is insanely useful when the entire game's special thing is that you fight a bunch of boss pokemon who boost their stats at the start of the battle which you can then immediatly invert so that +1 to all stats is now a -1. And you can get it literally on route 1 (which is great bc early on everyone still uses growl and such and inkay's ability turns all those -1 to attack into +1) and they even gave topsy-turvy an accuracy boost that gen to now always hit. Inkay is good in gen 6 already but in gen 7? so so so good i love this little squid so much

@@emperorcubone you know sometimes i question if Riolu and Lucario should be considered "Sinnoh" pokemon since you can't actually capture it in the sinnoh games, you can only get it from the egg in those games, even the remakes are the same in that regard. Sure Legends arceus allowed it, but I look at that title as more of a spin-off personally. That said, I do gotta say that while having the power to catch riolu early in the unova sequels is cool, it being effective by the first gym is subjective since it doesn't get Force Palm until level 15 (if you actually raise any of your pokemon to this level, Cheren shouldn't be able to touch you since his highest is lvl 11), only knowing Counter at level 8 until then, which is kind of risky to run given Riolu is a friendship evo pokemon and you definitely don't want it to faint, but Counter requires you to take hits and survive to do damage back. Though getting it to evolve before Roxie and beyond isn't a problem, and it can put in work for the rest of the region sure, it's just that first bit I would disagree unless you don't care for excess grinding to take down cheren.

The point you brought up about legends and how late they are is actually my biggest gripe with how they are these days. Good video. I also have a suggestion for another Pokemon that might be better outside of its home Region. This is gonna sound crazy but I think Axew and its line is one of them and it's the gen after it comes out. Now this sounds crazy because it gains 1 whole weakness but I think the upsides outweigh that. You can get it very early in the game in the connecting cave a little bit before the first gym (meaning it's good against the gym leader's ace who is part dragon) and much earlier to get from its Gen 5 self where you needed to go out of your way to get it in a cave that you needed surf to get to. Axew's also a mono-type dragon so that makes him good against two of the other Kalos gym leaders and good against 3 (Rock because of the part dragon typing, elec, and grass) of the elite 4 late-game (Fire, Water, and Dragon). In contrast, in Unova, it's good against 1 to 3 gym leaders or elite 4 (B2W2 is 3 since it's water and dragon gyms and champ fight) depending on the game.
@emperorcubone6 ай бұрын
Hmm, I've never actually used one in Kalos because I had just done so in Unova, but I could see that being the case! Haxorus can also get the Poison Jab TM to deal with Fairies as well; I might have to try Axew next time I play X and Y!

Geodude was so much better in Johto than Kanto. It can pretty much solo through Morty fight (in remakes they have levitate but in Gen 2 weak to ground as well).

Good point! I love hitting floating Pokemon with Ground in those early days!

You didn't even mention how you get given a Porygon in Platinum's story
@tk24life6 ай бұрын
Spearow is the best Pokémon in the Jhoto games, with Abra being a close second. Houndour is exclusive to the postgame until Platinum. Roselia is core to a Sinnoh play through. I get why you wouldn’t count Pokémon that gain evolutions in later generations, but I do think Roselia can hold its own, even before it evolves in Sinnoh, while it’s not given a second thought in Hoenn, due to better options.

I almost put Spearow on the list, specifically for Kenya, the in-game trade!

Totally understandable! I always wonder how often that happens today with newcomers to the series; like if they only started with Sword and Shield do they think Crabrawler is a Gen 9 Pokemon because it wasn't in Gen 8?
