Aaron, regarding the established new trees you've transplanted and watering them. After their initial settling in period, consider watering them much less frequently and farther out from the base of the tree. The tap root needs to remember it needs to grow down more to establish stability and search for water. Watering further out from the base has the roots searching further out which also establishes stability. In my area, Eastern WA, where trees are in lawns and watered frequently, those big trees succumb to wind storms which are common here because the roots are all shallow. There is no stability. My own evergreen trees, which are upwards to 80 years old and 300' tall with a branch span of 30' wide, are deep watered in early spring when irrigation water comes back on, and in fall just before irrigation is shut off for the season. In between the tap root searches down and the side roots are watered only because of the lawn (20 feet out from the base) being deep watered only once a week. My trees have survived 75mph wind gusts while others in town have not. Since you also live in a wind tunnel zone, food for thought.

As a builder of homes I’m constantly making sure new clients architect plans have washers on left and dryers on right because Most front load washer doors are not reversible and there is a trend to go back to top load due to mold growth on front load door seals. If a top load washer then either side works for dryer

When my husband passed I took my daughters back to California and Arizona on a 18 day journey to our past to decompress from his five year illness. We stopped to see the sequoias. I purchased a pencil sized tree. I babied it home and planted it on the edge of my vegetable garden to hold over. Two years later it was six feet tall with a 3 inch caliper trunk. I had someone transplant it. When I walked outside I caught him with a fork lift pop it out and bust its tap root off I was sick!!! But, I should have really thought about its location and gotten it out when I could have moved it myself. But oh wow it was beautiful and grew so darn fast!!! If I were you I would put one right in the center of that grass area behind the dream stream. But be aware it will grow super fast! About 3-4 feet a year!!! Mine was bare root the size of a #2 pencil in a small plastic bag. In the first year it was waist high and two feet wide!!! I’m 5’5”!!! I live in Massachusetts!!!! I’m sorry I didn’t plant it in the center of our culdesac. It would be huge by now and beautiful!

Wow, Aaron, I think you just created a new business model for the Hartley Company. That would be awesome to have a "turnkey" solution to building their greenhouses here in the US. Average homeowners don't have access to contractors who understand the intricacies of building a Hartley. You are right on, Aaron, that Greg has built his business on trust, collaboration, and sharing knowledge. That is a solid business model for the Hartley Company to mirror. You would be a good candidate for that Aaron, not that you are in the market for a new job. You and Laura have created your own unique business that we all love watching and learning from each day.

Years ago we bought a new house with no landscaping. I planned an approximately 30 by 10 feet area of trees and shrubs, but we were on a tight budget and I needed something to fill the area until we could afford the shrubs. That makes it easy to watch your videos. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s mentioned this but I didn’t want to mention that you could probably switch the orientation of your washer and dryer so that they open up to each other instead of switching the doors of your dryer or washer just Swap them with each other so this way they open into each other instead of away from each other. Had to do that with mine … i did have to get longer hoses but eventually it worked out and I didn’t have to spend the money to get new washer and dryers since they worked just fine ❤❤❤

We live in northern Utah zone 5, extremely dry heat. I’m tootin our own horn here - we water our lawn 1x a week unless it’s in the 100’s then we’ll sometimes water 2x. Our lawn is darker, more lush green than any of our neighbors who water everywhere from 2x per night every night to 1x every single day (what most neighbors do). I was taught at a young age to only water deep once a week (irrigation), and create deep roots for your lawn. We run the sprinklers for 20-30min/station. We’ve been doing the 1x per week for 8yrs now, and our lawn is still the best looking on our street and area. We also have a huge old pine, and an ash tree in our front lawn.

one plant per pot challenge: 4 pots for Aaron and Laura (and I think you used to have 10 total so that leaves 1 for Samantha and 1 for Benjamin). each plant has to be from a different plant group (petunia, grass, dahlia, caladium, etc). Voting: Mid June, Early August, Mid Sept. If you decide on plants early enough you could pot up the 4" annuals to 1 gallon pots before they go out in the big pots in the garden then you can skip some of that sad looking late spring smallness.

In a lot of communities, Phoenix for instance, trees are badly needed, but lack of water is the biggest issue . Rivers are shrinking and the ground water is being used up at an alarming rate. And the city is one of the fastest growing in the nation. It’s a really sad, unsolvable situation.
@patl.417010 сағат бұрын
That is a problem for many states. Destroying green space and overbuilding by greedy developers and politicians who could care less as they live in their tree lined well manicured estates. Overbuilding and poor drainage caused widespread flooding in Florida with past hurricanes (not just along the beaches who shoulder some responsibility for building so close to the water). Yet you never hear of a politician’s house flood. It’s always the ones that can least afford it.
