This is true! But objectively, its probably MV due to the wide variety of resources and its cheaper price compared to MZ i do really love XP though. Primarily for it's mapping and graphics. I still use XP graphics to this day actually!

XP is honestly amazing compared to its predecessor (they're still good but goddamn!). MV is my go-to, but XP is pure fantastic time.

I never tried anything, so I went straight to MZ on a sale. Now I'm parallel learning JS for it, while familiarizing myself with things.

I use mv It looks like mz is basically the same but with some objective improvements so maybe I should upgrade

Having switched from MV to MZ, I would highly recommend it. Wait for it to be on sale though of course, but many features from prior makers that were missing from MV (such as visible layers along with other QOL features) are back in MZ. Personally that was the biggest one for me, the slight boost in runtime because of their improved rendering engine was also a nice touch. Though I typically write my own plugins with JS, so if you use a lot of plugins with MV you will likely have to find an MZ equivalent as some plugins won’t work properly between both versions. Hope this helps and I’d be happy to answer any questions for you!

sound advice, I own all the pc makers and yeah they each have pros n cons, 2003 has better turn based battles and vanilla eventing to say mv/mz, vx/ace allows easier access to the engine itself to modify it for projects(I mean I tamper with mz's built in scripts just fine with notepad++ but most cant lol), mv/mz's plugin system allows for circumventing the engine's limitations more easily.

I agree with these points. Tbh, I love the QoL in MZ so much that I'd like to make two decents projects in VXA until I feel really proficient in Ruby and then I'll start my journey to learn JS. VXA will always be my favorite but it's hard to understate how great MZ is in a lot of aspects.

i love ace's rtp too. I'm not much of a programmer regardless, so I'm thinking of using ace graphics in MZ since you can change the grid to 32x32. Only thing is the resolution might be wonky - players get an abnormally large view of the maps they walk on. What do you think?
@runthemc3 ай бұрын
I've thought about doing this SEVERAL times in the past but just haven't tried it yet. If you do try to use it in MZ please let me know how it goes because VXA's RTP is by far my favorite.

if you are proficient with say krita there is a filtering option thru Gmic to upscale that works decently, from there just resize it furtther if ya overdid it with the upscaler. Ive converted bits of the tileset like the superior trees from XP to mz that way
@monkeeeem2 ай бұрын
@@runthemcI would highly recommend the switch. MZ in particular is a nice step up and I also really like how you can use the VXA RTP with the 32x32 tiles. Having learned Ruby and JS I would have to say I personally prefer JS (call me crazy), and the plugin system is very nice.

@@monkeeeem MZ is great for sure, I think I still have more time in MZ than VXA even though the gap is narrowing. I do really like Ruby vs JS though. My plan is to finish this idle game project and I'd like to do one more project to cement the Ruby knowledge. After that I'm going to be moving into learning JS and returning to MZ. I might do that in parallel with the Ruby projects but that might get confusing 🤣
@monkeeeem2 ай бұрын
@@runthemc I really respect the effort you're putting into learning and utilizing the engines! I started with XP many years ago myself, and it is definitely the main reason I learned Ruby in the first place, though between the two I guess JS just comes easier to me. I look forward to seeing what you create!

I still use vx but only issue if you big file you cannot compress with "include RTP data" i use software unless doing something wrong
