I understand that most users would just plug in the card and be done with it, so reviews should cover that kind of use case, but for comparing cooler efficiency it's really noise normalized or nothing IMHO. Still great video though.

Just bought a Zotac on the basis a physical card is better than a non existent one! Since I don't intend to overclock, and the jump up from a 1080ti makes the slightly lower fps from the Zotac compared to other 3090s pretty much irrelevant, it'll keep me going for the next 5 years

Yeah I just bought one I'm not an overclocker and not gonna spend 300 more for 2 frames or a bit quieter fan! My main reason was for the vram I change cards every 5 years and why because games get more demanding hopefully with this the vram should keep up! At the end of the day these cards piss over everything.

Wich one is "safer" to buy as a probably minned card, betweent the RogStrix and Tuf? It seems that the Rog has better cooling, but wouldnt tha lower power limit of the tuf mean that it was running cooler? I managed to get a Zotac 3090 for a really good price and it's not the best. But, it was a REALLY good price. The RAM pads and paste on the core are hampering the cooling a lot on this card. Power wasn't an issue at aony point for OC. I'm actually running it undervolted, re-padded and re-pasted and it's really good with easily doubling the performance of my 1080ti at similar or lower wattage.

I think about £800. I don't remember the details as it was a while. I did the curve capping the voltage at 1.05V and the clocks get to about 2050MHz depending on the game and load. In most games easily stays around 2GHz and 75C. But I've changed the case to have better airflow.

I noticed none of the reviewers ever compare factory overclocked cards to an FE overclocked and here's why... with 60Mhz core clock oc and 250Mhz to ram (making it 20Gbps), it auto clocks to 1990-2010Mhz in games! That's a good 18% bump over the rated 1700Mhz FE boost clock! I'm maxing out every single game 4k60, even Control and Cyberpunk 2077 with quality and performance DLSS! Literally double the framerate of my old computer and 88% better than my current cpu (5800x) was with my old 2080Super. Helluva generational leap

Does the power limit graph mean that all these cards, except for the Gaming X Trio and the Strix, stress your PSU the same? I want to run a 3090 on my Seasonic 750w Platinum modular PSU. So I'm looking for a version that can be comfortably ran on that. Your comment at 3:49 is incorrect. One 8-pin connector at 12v and 9a per molex female each is good for 324W. Which means a dual 8-pin can actually withstand 648W of power. The limit of 150W for each 8pin doesn't come from the cable but rather the connector on the graphics card. The new 12 pin can max out at 600W, which can be supplied by 2 8-pin connectors as I previously mentioned. The FE 3090 is not limited by the cables but rather the BIOS or power delivery on the PCB. So, theoretically the FE 3090 can pull 675W, 600W bottleneck by the 12-pin cable and 75W from the PCIe port. Common misconception that 8-pin cables can only push 150W of current.

No I know that but I'm just saying the official PCIe spec is 150W each which is the real limiter on cards since they want to pass PCIe certification. Nvidia bypassed this by creating their own connectors and since they just have an adapter that's technically not part of the card they can overdraw the 8-pins and still be fine.

@@OTechnology That's the whole point of the 12-pin connector. Technically the best card for overclocking is the Founders Edition cards. Modification of the card will have to be done, whether its the bios or a shunt mod, but technically the FE card can draw far more power than the STRIX and, with its better VRM and power delivery capabilities, overclock the highest of all of the cards. So many people online think the FE 3090 should have a 12-pin to 3 8-pin connector rather than 2 8-pins because they think each 8-pin cable is limited when its the card that's limited. I just wanted to point it out to anyone who saw your graph and thought the FE was limited on power by the adapter, which is not the case. I appreciated your video and liked it, it is very in-depth and professionally done. Always can appreciate an experiment format like you did!

But with regards to overclocking, its not just about the max current on the VRM but the cards like the Strix have a digital voltage controller that they explicitly made easily controllable externally by a I2C interface from the labeled solder pads.

I bought 3090 Palit Gaming Pro and I`m pretty happy with it, it is rocking on 650w PSU with i7700k at 5ghz, not a single crash over 2 months even with OverClocking (+60 on core and + 200 on Memory) Yes it runs hot, but so what, 72-77c is perfectly fine and do not affect the GPU lifespan, I can always wramp up the Fans to 60-65% to cool the GPU to 65-70c but I see no point to endure the noice for running on lower temps.

High end zotac cards always suffer from thermal issues. They are ok, but i just got the zotac 4090 and its basically the same thing. You better have some top notch air flow in your case, I also highly recommend undervolting it, you'll lose like 3 or 5% performance but it'll keep the card much cooler with little compromises. I deshrouded my 3090 when the warranty expired and just by changing pads and using quality paste, you can drop about 5 to 10 celcius. I still hate zotac for cheaping out on pads and paste. Overclocking is out of the question unless you are good at deshrouding or can do your own custom water blocking. Compare that to the Strix that has good thermals on stock values and can OC with little issues.

Kai Jo nope, if you consider the price tag... like they compare a budget 3090 from gigabyte vs msi to top of the line Asus. To tell the truth, if you compare 3090 xtreme, 3090 suprimx, 3090 vulcan vs 3090 strix...they perform as close to each other. Feel free to choose wisely, unless your case restricts like nzxt h1 only accept tuf, xc3, ventus vs turbo.

@@NamelessPassenger Lol nope. This was a month ago when tge cards launched. The time when the capacitors were a problem in the ampere cards. Because most companies cut prices and put cheap POSCAPS instead of a more expensive but powerful MLCC capacitors. The cards were literally crashing because of it. While other companies where cutting down in quality yet increased 80 to 100 dollars above Msrp, Asus tuff card used proper MLCC and was only 10 to 50 dollars above Msrp. Still Asus tuff card performs better and cheaper than other company cards. Because it had better build quality than the other.

Yea the TUF is definitely still a good card. For stock performance it will run extremely cool and quietly as well. The 40W gap to the strix at default will probably only yield a 3% performance increase at most.

If you're not overclocking the default power limit affects the performance they have. The cooler sure if you're putting a waterblock doesn't matter. The VRM current capability more shows how good a quality the PCB design is as manufacturers that cheap out will for sure put lower VRM capabilities which again mostly matters if you overclock and remove power limits with shunt mods.

STAY AWAY. Severe design flaws making the card underperform and sometimes die, due to design issues they also overload the PCIE slot power draw. EVGA won't say a word and they simply send out different revisions of the card from RMA which are hit and miss.

Availability of these cards is the main issue. Rtx 3090 isn't really necessary for gaming but is really all that's available at present. Nearly bought a msi gaming trio - will go for the strix when it next shows in stock. Bit of a waste of money really.. no more so than paying over odds for a 3080. Any ideas when 3080 will be available..

They told me today they will use the palit card since its compatible with the cooling block. But after your video it also seems like the worst card compared to the others overclocking wise. Hey, I totally forgot about this comment. Yes, it arrived on Oct 23rd. I managed to get it in the Port Royal top 100 for awhile, might try to go further when I can change some stuff. The Strix is amazing, the card is stable even at 2100MHz (keep in mind this is a 3090!). Although I did find out that even my 860W PSU sometimes can’t supply enough peak power. So I had to tone down the OC a bit. I’m waiting for intel to announce Rocket Lake so I can make up my mind between AMD’s 5950X and intel’s supposed 11900k. I’ll be changing the PSU along with the CPU and mobo, and probably also do a custom cooling loop along with it. If you guys are still interested on how the 3090 performs, I’ll probably do a short video benchmarking Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out :)

VRM current for the MSI Gaming X Trio is not fairly represented here. NCP302045 (power stages) have a peak output current of 75A for a duration of 10ms ( period 1 second). Peak is 1050 A. They are more capable than many people are leading the masses to believe.

@@OTechnology Well if you do the math for a GPU with a 375W total card limit (VBIOS imposed) and avg. core voltage of 1000mv, the card will only ever need < 400 Amps (still plenty of headroom for transient spikes). So, unless you are der8auer and plan to flash a 500W VBIOS and overclock it... kinda moot point.

What are your thoughts about the EVGA kingpin one? I know it’s not out yet but what are your thoughts compared to the strix? I know it will come with an insane price premium but I’m just curious how much performance can they squeeze from the GA102 with cherry picking binned chips, higher power limits and 360mm AIO 🤔

Gaming OC is one of the best ocing 2x 8 pin 3090s. I'd keep it I flashed my ventus to that bios

tbh a 3090 isn't really necessary you could have gone with 3080 to or 3080 with beefier coolers

Seems like the drmos of the msi gaming x trio is capable of 50A and given that there are 18 vrms it should result in a max current of 900A tho only 14 of these vrms are dedicated for the gpu resulting in 700A max gpu current .. correct me if im wrong tho

No the MSI uses 45A OnSemi DrMOS powe stages. Totals 630A.

3090 Suprim X is better imo. Both are the 2 best cards you can buy along with Kingpin and Galax HOF. Suprim X , Kingpin , and Strix are also the 3 best looking.

Thanks for the replies, but I already ordered the White Strix. I was mostly leaning towards it because of my White case. But who knows, im still in a waiting list, while the SUPRIM X has been available a couple times. So might change it if it takes too long. Kinda wanna have my GPU for the summer holiday.
