I had an AP1 and now I have an AP2, and it's easier to live with around town but still a ton of fun. If I could have 1 for track days (which I no longer do) and 1 for a daily driver, it'd definitely be an AP1 for the track and an AP2 for the daily.

Just get an AP2 and change the markings on the Tach so that 8,000 now reads 9,000 RPM. That will get you the oh-so-cool 9,000 RPM reading with the same HP and more low end torque.

AP1: Indy Yellow Pearl AP2: New Indy Yellow Pearl Which S2000 should you buy? I think Japonic did it right by not careing about colour or AP1/AP2. What is really important is the condition of the car and how well it was looked after. It is not a bad idea to inform yourself about the model years and technical changes. I also think it might be worth thinking about a Spoon reinforcement gusset plate. Have fun with these top engineered pieces of art and enjoy them on the road!

Generally speaking, here in the States a buyer almost always gets more car for their money with an AP1 as all things being equal (mileage/condition/color), they sell for many thousands less than the AP2 cars do. The yellow on Japonic's S2000 is one of the most attractive shades of yellow ever made. Please pass my compliments along to him. By the way, what's up with KZbin inserting a mind-numbing amount of commercials in your video?

*The ap2 is the better car, but the ap1 is the better s2000.* The ap1 is what Honda intended the s2000 to be -- a raw sportscar. The ap2 just went too soft and refined which makes it a better overall car. I picked an ap1 for this reason - a raw no mercy 9000 rpm weakened warrior.
@z32luvr

AP1 is inferior to the AP2. They fixed all the issues with the AP2 and that’s why their value is so much better.
@sdlausen1
@sdlausen1 4 жыл бұрын
@@z32luvr State side, the value isn't higher. That used to be the case. Low mileage ap1 now are going for the same price if not more than ap2. The reason higher mileage s2k go for more than an ap1 is because most higher mileage ap1 are now clapped out. Also, they made and sold more ap1 than ap2 from 00-03 - supply and demand. The ap1 is not inferior to the ap2. The ap2 is slightly the better car, yes... but only because it's softer and more friendly to drive for an amateur than the ap1. They fixed the suspension geometry in the back to prevent snap oversteer amateur drivers don't know how to handle. That is the only major revision. Put wider tires on the ap1 like the ap2 and you're good to go. As for interior, the ap2 takes it bad none. As the years go by, you will see low mileage or un-abused ap1 take over in terms of prices. Everyone wants the 9k rpm redline. www.mecum.com/lots/FL0121-444147/2000-honda-s2000-convertible/

@@sdlausen1 even though the higher redline is nice the extra tq you get from the 2.2 liter still makes it better doesn’t consume oil out the ass the f20s are practically like vqs when it comes to oil consumption my buddy literally picked up an ap1 I got to drive it back fro him about 6 hours the only part that makes actual sense to give the ap1 over the ap2 is the better steering response I ain’t even going to say better throttle response since the 04-05 ap2 came with the same throttle cable he also picked up the ap1 with less miles and less money then an ap2 he was looking it there a reason ap2s are always going to be higher priced lol

I own a 2002 AP1 and I love it more compare to the AP2. AP1 has that raw feeling compare to AP2. My AP1 is fully stripped out and so is my buddy's 07 AP2 (we both track) but for some reason I enjoy my AP1 more becuase of how raw it is compare to AP2. Plus that 9k rpm cant beat that unless youre in the UK where some AP2 comes 9k rpm they did it right. SO in conclusion it's all preference... its still a S2000 that everyone (or most) wants and admire. Love the yellow!

In the UK all cars (AP1/2 - here, known as pre facelift/facelift) have the F20C 2.0 engine. I have two. An “AP2” to mod the hell out of, and an AP1 that is kept pristine and standard. Why? Because the AP1 is the original. And with prices of these rising and rising, if held on to, it’s the AP1’s in my opinion that will be worth the most money in the future. They’re the icon. They are the original after all.
