Loved the plot twist at the end!! I have a question: when that mysterious person came out of the shadows, who was a copy of the girl, was that another AI? So were there actually two AIs, or who was that second person/AI?

Thank you, glad it surprised you! Yes indeed it was another A.I. - a previous non-sentient prototype that's not as advanced as our Alika.. And ultimately is how our protagonist confronts that she was the A.I. all along!

Good acting and plot. 4 stars. Why are they both wearing the exact same outfit at the reveal? Both were A.I's? If her emotions could break her programming wouldn't that be a failure? Surely if you treated her bad she'd stop loving you and wasn't that counter the bosses point about buying love?

@@erinvinson5106 You could program it however you want. Maybe just like real people, the AI would stay in an abusive relationship. The deeper question is how would you feel if you were the boyfriend? That's because the 2 in the lab coats were not human either. As the "mother" stated, "humans are unreliable." She needed a 100% guarantee that the 2 in the lab coats would quickly put the life of the android daughter's lover in danger. There;s no reason to wait hours or days or weeks for humans to maybe fight when she can have 2 androids programmed to attack who she specifically chooses in ~7minutes. At 7:13 you can see something unusual on the inside of Marvin's wrist too. Edit: It's also possible that she used paid actors to fake the whole fight.

People that only know the story "I Robot" from the movie don't realize that Asimov created the Dr. Susan Calvin character to be more cold, calculating and emotionless than any of the robots in any of those stories. This is just a re-telling of that character to a generation that doesn't know where it originated.

The test wasn't to see if two of the people in the room could figure out who the android is----they were all human. The test was also rigged with one loner against two people who were already a couple-----it was only natural that those two who not only knew each other but were intimate would turn against one. The REAL test would be whether the android "daughter" would be willing to risk everything for her lover whom her "mother" falsely revealed to be AI. Once she passed the test, it was time to go on to the next phase which would involve producing and selling all of these android women.

I knew she was the robot. . This is actually a very good story. The idea that one day the world will be run by AI is not far from the truth. Cost of love is what we are all looking for and if we can find it in AI that will not fight or argue with us, most people will pay for it. I myself maybe not but I see the value. Good one Dust and to all the cast and crew of this episode.

Really tired of the thinking that the first thing the 'guys' will do if put into a pressure situation is come to fisticuffs. Seriously, I'm beginning to think that such scenes are conceived by children. Rather than turning to thoughtful speculation, your characters start beating on each other, how uninspired and uninspiring! Presumably they are working in a gig that requires some measure of intelligence but none of them stop from the beat down to think of the 3 laws of robotics, even if to dismiss them in some way. In this way, the characters seemed infantile and I could not in any way relate to any of them.
@mnementh2000
@mnementh2000 4 жыл бұрын
Kind of an addition about the three robotics laws, the androids would presumably have them, considering the mother's claims that the androids would love you unconditionally and would never hurt you. That could play into the first law that states that through their actions, or inactions, they could neither harm nor allow harm to come to a human, unless they claim that emotional harm is outside of that law's parameters. The second stated that a robot must obey all orders given to it by a human, unless it would conflict with the first law. Third is that a robot is to protect it's own existence, unless doing so would violate either of the first two laws. Of course, we sort of saw some form of independent action when Alika took off from her 'mother' to attempt to help her lover, though that could also play into not allowing harm to come to a human; then again, she didn't automatically act when the fight broke out. She also brandished a weapon at her 'mother', though she didn't follow through. Law's again, or false feelings of familial love? Something that I appreciate about this, is that it didn't immediately jump to the new 'old' standby that robots will inevitably turn against their creators and attempt to wipe them out (Terminator, Mass Effect video games, and others). That seems to be the new prevailing idea - that, if we create artificial intelligence, it will seek our demise. Heck, even Star Trek has kind of gone that route, despite the fact that Lt Cmdr Data was a full AI, served in Starfleet for years with distinction, was declared to be a living being, and had even created another AI (his 'daughter', Lal, in season 3 of TNG). In Picard, all of the sudden, robotics are outlawed and all research into them has been banned, at least until the end of the first season. Not going any further due to possible spoilers. But the fact remains, that is the new take on things. Even as far back as The Original Series of Star Trek (with the robot Ruk), there have been stories of this kind of thing, but only a few where AI doesn't actually attempt take-over and mass genocide. Star Wars (to a great extent) is one of the few. There are literally millions of robots, and even some with AI, but they have not actually risen up in a genocidal revolt, except in small scale in some novels and the like. Even Mass Effect kind of backtracked on it's stance, by saying that the True Geth actually hold no real animosity towards their creators, the Quarians, only massive amounts of distrust due to the Quarians trying to wipe them out time and again, but that they, themselves, do not want to follow the path that everyone believes that they will. In fact, if you play your cards right, you can get them to comit to aiding in stopping the Reapers, and ancient race of machines that DO want to wipe out intelligent life in 50,000 year cycles.

yes, this one has tv show legs, unlike many of them..could have been a mini-pilot episode because so many directions a series starting out like this could go in..i mean, *"Westworld"* is *very* popular and there are so many fun story arcs in film and television/internet than include androids..and I wouldn't mind a less violent Westworld because, for me, it's far too detailed in that way..which is the only reason I couldn't get through even the first episode..personally, i just can't stomach it..its just too much, even though it's faked..and I do remember the original *"Westworld"* movie the show is based on, from way back when..and *that* film i liked a lot...but the tv version was just too *Quentin~Tarantino-ish* [for me]..but he's a good filmmaker, i've seen others of his movies..but I have to 'duck & cover' when things get rough in them...except ,*"Reservoir Dogs,"* that one was too much and is 1 of only 2 theater films I've ever paid to watch and then walked out of early on.

Good movie. Could be expanded from here. Interesting how quickly they went Lord of the Files here. One would like to think that educated people would have lasted longer and done some experiments, but you were also constrained by the show length. Does show how quickly we can become primal. I had a suspicion that the daughter was the AI. Mom seemed a little cold and calculating. I do agree that A.I. like this will lead to many, many problems. let's say that instead of looking for a real woman I buy a bot instead. Wouldn't that distance me from other people and make me somewhat contemptuous of women? Maybe the reverse? A woman buys a man bot and no longer sees men as having value. Or people, in general, lose value. This could create a singular loss of empathy and compassion.

Proof that production value cannot make up for a complete lack of story with an obvious ending.

This was a good looking short film, very well directed. I just feel like the script needed more work. We live in a time when Westworld is covering this ground with unprecedented levels of detail and intelligence. It explores the cerebral, the scientific, the existential, even the spiritual side of artificial intelligence. So if new stories about A.I. and androids are going to get told they really need to up their game in terms of storytelling otherwise they just feel rudimentary and unimaginative. The premise is incredibly fascinating and I could imagine it being a feature film like Exam, with a group of people trying to figure out who is the robot. That could be a fun low budget sci-fi film. I'd definitely watch that. Perhaps it is the short film format. It condenses the narrative so everything feels contrived and overly melodramatic. Anyway, the director shows great promise! Keep making films! Maybe try turning this into a feature.

Great quality but when the girl asks "what happens when your (something) brand serves its purpose?" Its a dead giveaway. Not sure if that was intentional or not. Its as if its processing its chance of survival after the intended task is complete.

The ending bothers me. Because here's this guy, alone in a hall with a woman. This woman just lied to him and his colleagues, nearly got him killed as a result. It wasnt even one of them. and he just found out the woman he loved is a robot. Not just a robot but one designed to trick him. And she's pretty much gloating about it, and how she'll keep doing it. The problem? He didn't immediately strangle her.

I greatly enjoyed this short - even though the "mother/daughter" - interaction sort of spoiled the final plot twist. What did others make of the short emotional sidestep of the mother at 9:30? Could she have targeted the guy as the test subject's love interest out of revenge for an emotional betrayel she herself had experienced previously by him...?
