Blake's Seven had a lot of sins: shoddy production values such as lame sets, costumes, props, cheesy effects, and so forth, but the reason I still like it is because the stories were good and the acting was spectacular. It goes all the way back to ancient Greece: a good story (with superb acting) is EVERYTHING.

brilliant. works on several levels ... and now more relevant then ever!! a good chunk of my life folds into this story. standard of excellence in all aspects - writing, performance, and all the tech ... is absolutelty outstanding. kudos! two very minor crits: 1) her maydays at beginning would have a bit less of her name and a little more of the name of her ship, location etc ... makes her sound like kind of a megalomaniac in love with her own name.. 2) black hole time dilation would have been infinitely longer. like not decades but trillions of years..equipment on planet would have been dust. dunno if wormhole is similar or not.
@kevincrady2831
@kevincrady2831 4 жыл бұрын
@@jv-lk7bc On that last bit, her pod had artificial gravity, and some kind of reactionless propulsion system (she was able to tinker with it by modifying parts within the ship). If her pod had been using conventional rocketry, she wouldn't have been able to try to enhance its chances of escaping by re-routing power or whatever she was doing. So, if her pod was generating its own effects on spacetime (an "antigravity" field, Alcubierre warp bubble or some such), then it probably would have counteracted some of the time dilation the wormhole would cause. This would also explain why her ship retained structural integrity instead of being stretched out into a strand of spaghetti. :) /nerd

Hi William. This is one of the best films Dust has ever made. Stellar acting. Great story. Heart wrenching story. Being caught in the Gravity Well of a black hole would be nightmarish. Loved the humor and cursing. I knew right away when the guy said he didn't know what Jupiter is. Wormhole is the only possibility. That's how the grey's get here. Never seen her. Keep her. Give her more acting roles. Pay her well. She's wonderful. Can't wait for the next. PLEASE make a Part II of this. Cheers!

Oh my! Was a professional soldier in my prime and 40 years later that fear of being out of reach slashed through the shriek that resides somewhere inside my brain and engulfed me as I watched this. Have been a follower of Dust for some time. This is, I think the most visceral experience to date. This hit with the force of "The Cold Equations" by Tom Godwin when I read it in an anthology of Sci-fi that scored me 3 credit hours towards my BA (class of 1977). Still have those volumes. Well done to all concerned. Bravo!!!

one shot Hey there...I am 69 yrs "young" myself. I'm glad that other 'Distinguished Elders" are calling themselves 'young'...Bravo..!! And I absolutely agree with you: these DUST films are fantastic; I didn't know there were still people that could put out a high quality film anymore. Of course I am referring to almost everything that the cesspool called Hollywood has been putting out for many years now. Yea, occasionally a good one sneaks out but they are so rare these days. But every one of these DUST films that I have watched to date have ALL been top notch in every way. I have been a life long "gentle reader" of Asimov and also Clarke, Heinlein, Bradbury and many more serious science fiction writers so I think I have a good grasp of what a good story can be and DUST fills that requirement.

The "double plot twists" that others here in the comments have mentioned. I love the simplicity of the story and how it's about very human fears and the two characters' relationship. The acting was beautifully done; it's always the little details in expressions or tone that I find touching. It was smart to put in the little differences in cultural details that lead into Kaya figuring out a potential solution.

Kaya fucking Torres! Just, wow! This was immediately saved to my favorite short films list. I genuinely loved everything about it, the writing, the filming, the directing, all of it. But the characters are what really got me, especially Kaya Torres, she was flawless!

This Dust Short Stories are better than any hollywood 120min movie. Awesome, top, together with "Sand Castle" and any other Dust short Sci-Fi. "Dust" is worth every cent and second that would be wasted watching Hollywood blockbusters.

I must say that out of watching over 100 Dust films....THIS. This had me excited and on the edge of my seat. WOW. I don't really know what words to use. I'm happy. I'm sad. I'm emotional and scared all within 18 mins and 49 seconds. This is my exact fav type of story and you guys nailed it. My heart is still thumping hard. Kudos to the director and writer/s and the actors...wow they are so good. I now feel like every other Dust film i watch wont meet this level of intensity and adventure. 99/10.

Wow! Three years "late" to the party, but this film has not lost its impact. What a cracking good film it is. A great story, and it was beautifully acted, I really felt for them both. Time and Gravity eh? Refreshing too to have a film that wasnt shot in the dark, and a story that had a beginning, middle and end. Congratulations to all involved. 🎉

I have watched quite a lot of these short, novel-in-a-bottle kind of videos. Some have been good and others not so much. This one, however, was not only a story that is deep and meaningful and very well-constructed, but extremely well-portrayed. The acting was excellent and believable, and the artistic concept, set design, and cinematography were superb. I have not seen better storytelling or a better presentation in many major, high-budget, feature-length, films. If this was not obvious enough, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Thank you!

Wow. Not to put down other creators but THIS is why I watch these short films. Content like this makes me keep watching when the last 20 films made me ask my self "What am I watching ?" and "Why am I wasting my time?". This had everything I was looking for, good acting, nice effects, very good story and more. I can't praise you enough on the work everyone did on this film. I hope to see this level of production on a larger film, god knows Hollywood needs all the help it can get to stop churning out crap. If you can do this work with a limited budget then I am excited to see what kind of masterpiece you do with a large budget. In synopsis: Loved it. Loved the ending. Loved the message. Hope we get to see what you could do with more resources.

Really enjoyed this one! A lot of these Dust shorts leave me wishing for more...a longer movie, or a tv series. On the one hand, that's a good thing. On the other hand, one could argue that it's a slight failure in the artform of the short film. THIS one, however, was a perfect short. It was utterly compelling from start to finish, and yet felt complete. Well done by cast and crew.

The only parts that were counter screenplay was the gas mask for a helmet and the tight spacecraft inner module shots.... We could have fabricated complete working helmets and cockpits for this masterpiece which would add that last touch.. other than that everything was cinematic top grade or better, from the screenplay science to music to the CGI, to choice of actors and acting... one of best put together short pieces I've ever seen hands down...!! You guys should all be proud of this one!
