you say the winchester was the lighter load but i actually was the heaviest load 1 1/4 compared to 1 1/5 and 1 1/8. It also is 1400 fps. What were the other 2 ? Seems like the cheaper ammo is more efficient
@ImageLoX5 жыл бұрын
I know this would be more work but I’d like to see: 1) A 40 yard shot distance 2) With at least 3 shots each brand on new targets each time 3) On exactly a 30” target circle 4) If possible from a rest for consistency. Reason for all this is: 1) To get a comparable pattern percentage based on manufacturers testing. 2) To get an average. 3) See #1 4) Consistency to remove possible shooter movement. Obviously, this is for the viewer because you don’t need to pattern with the amount of birds you’ve brought down lol

Well it does tell you, if your gun shoot to point of aim. But then even then he should be using a rest. Now if he was checking gun fit, he would need to move up 4yds. and shoot several shots from low gun mount pulling the trigger when the gun got to his shoulder.

@@guybaxendale He's "trying to"; actually not gaining any meaningful data from what he did. You can't test patterns with a single shot. It appears that his gun is shooting all over the place with different loads. Highly unlikely at that close a range. Could be aim. He could have alleviated that, at least if he had shot from a rest and taken human error out of the equation. You definitely can't test which load patterns best with the method he used. So many more variables and things to do.

Ive had good luck with the federal Speed shok but opt for the 11/4 oz load. 1 1/8 gets you another 100 fps but 1 1/4 still gets you 1450fps advertised and 154 pellets, the 1 1/8 is roughly 15-20 less pellets so a less dense pattern. Take a look at Monarch from academy @$8.99 for a box of 3" shells it is a good value and a hammer too. One more thing to note is that federal seals their waterfowl loads, both premium and budget lines, havent seen sealed shells from any others yet even on premium shells

We patterned all our guns at 20 and 40 yards and we all shoot benelli sbe and m2. Curious to see how your results would be with your franchi.
@nakoawarrior31864 жыл бұрын
I have a smaller point of aim,............then I aim carefully,......then I shoot. at both 20 yards and 30 yards. That's to see what the pattern is doing. Then at home I write Winchester on the target and place a dot on a sheet of glass and then I place it on my point of aim,..........then I look for the heaviest pattern,....and then I place an X there. Then I move the glass to where the X is on my point of aim,............then I look at the position of my dot. Then I know that when I place my bead 7 inches to the left and 3 inches low the bullseye is demolished. A picture is better. Like say a turkey's head. You mark the point of aim on the target for each gun,.........then you look at it each time you hunt with that gun. That's just what a hunter does so he don't waste shells and go home hungry,......also thats a sliding scale you must use kentucky windage/ know where to aim out to 50 yards. So that you can shoot at any range out to 50,.......because your point of aim changes. that means using a large piece of paper or cardboard at 50 yards to see how much the pattern drops at 50 yards. And thats just the beginning. Different parts of the USA different things to hunt. Ballistic Products sells components that give better pattern's too.
@mikedupree8325 жыл бұрын
Neat Did the was make it to the paper. Would it be possible to draw rings from the center to determine the density distribution which would give a measure of pellets on target Maybe help explain your kills and help with aimming. Some gun makers say 60/40 pellets up/down again knowing might change your aim on target It's a combination that could define your kills
@chriswhite30352 жыл бұрын
Bobby , Not wanting to bore anybody but if you really want a really cool lesson in shotgun loads (AKA fowling gun). Look up black powder shotgun load basics. Before you had removable chokes you had to adjust your load to powder ratio to make a wider or a tighter pattern. Rule of thumb was 1 oz of powder to 1 oz of shot. More powder less shot was a wider spread due to power behind the load . Less powder to more shot made a closer pattern . So you adjusted you ratio to the size game you were hunting. I hope i explained this right . Anyway check it out for any shotgun hunter it is well worth it.
@Bwanar15 жыл бұрын
You realize every pattern is going to be different, right? You need to do several patterns (at least 3) and average the results to get any meaningful data. Even at that, it won't help anyone else. Each gun/choke combination is liable to shoot differently. Everyone should pattern their individual shotguns with the loads they have available and pick the ones that shoot best for their specific shotgun/choke combinations. Also pretty much any load is going to do the job at 20yds. Not a very practical distance and definitely not the right choke for that distance. More of a Cyl. to Skeet chock would serve you much better.
