Lance is my personal favorite weapon. It has everything you could want in a weapon. It's: -Aggressive, once you start to get good with it, you have almost 100% up time on DPS -Safe, you have the strongest guard and fast counter attacks -Can mount monsters from your charge -Maneuverable, with charges, guarded dashes and long back hops that chain -Easy to learn (hard to master), doesn't have an overwhelming amount of moves or mechanics to learn, but each one is important to learn to utilize correctly -Satisfying, the game becomes a dance with the monster once you start to put everything together -Looks really fckin cool Sword and Shield, and Switch Axe are the other weapons I really enjoy using. But all the weapons are fun, I use them all from time to time.

Hello, i'm one of those 1k+ hours ppl. Longsword definitely do be easy mode, even dual blades, but if those are the weapons that make the game fun, no shame in using it That being said, I highly recommend you pick up every weapon for at least a hunt or two. Each weapon gives such a unique feeling that they're all like different games. I say give them all a fair shot Personal recommendations for higher skill floor weapons: Charge Blade, Greatsword, Hunting Horn. These weapons force you to think when you use them and are great if you wanna take on a challenge for yourself and learn the game on a deeper level Weapons that are easy to use and have fun with immediately: Longsword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Sword and Shield, Light Bowgun, Bow. These offer their 'fun value' immediately without needing to really obsess over learning the movesets and mechanics. Easy to understand weapons Welcome to the MH community. Always happy to see newer people coming along enjoying this insane experience for the first time
@TheDalisamaАй бұрын
If you have Iceborn, the SnS is actually broken in LR and most of HR. You can create ammo very easily, and the shotgun burst from piercing pod does over 100 damage on anything, and it combos straight into a Perfect Rush. Even shooting something like Redpits still gets you around 50 damage, and it does KO (even more with stones). Just think about those numbers for a second. In LR, a single redpit shotgun blast does half the damage of a fully powered up LR Greatsword True Charge Slash. And you can pop them off constantly. Make the Hunter set for that slinger ammo boost.
@DraustTrollbaneUSАй бұрын
I really just don't understand how people do damage with Bow. I tried it as my first ranged weapon after playing for 500 hours on both Hammer and DB, and could not get it work. Instead, I went Sticky LBG for 500 hours, then moved on to something more complicated, the CB. God I love the CB. For all its weird spinning plate bs, it keeps my attention locked on the game and made me so much better at other weapons. Still after all that time played, picked up the Bow for about 30 hours and still can't do any damage. I swear, I have a hidden debuff that says I can't use the Bow.

As a Greatsword main, I should feel offended, but I can understand where he's coming from, greatsword seems easy to use, but it is slow as molasses uphill in January. Greatsword shows its power once you've learned a monsters moveset to position yourself so the monster runs "into" your charged attacks, and on a TCS (True Charged Strike) you'll usually see upwards of 1000 damage before you get to the endgame.

As entertaining as Jocat's vids are for knowing the weapons, it's mostly done in a very joking matter so it wont tell you everything you need to know In the end you pick the weapon you find most comfotable to use and learn which may take some trying them out, so dont feel too bad wanting to try something else if the one you are using isnt feeling like something that's working right now With experience you can technically learn to use every weapon, so just pick whatever looks cool to you and try em out!
@xanderhebert625719 күн бұрын
14:30, Calling a weapon “good” or putting them higher or lower on a tier list refers to its average clear time of missions, but none of the weapons are bad. It is mostly a matter of opinion because of how many variables affect clear time differences. In most cases if you can dodge every attack then the weapons with low defense and high offense like great sword would beat the mission a faster, some monsters have move-sets that make them more vulnerable to certain weapon combos or mechanics which is why some hunts are ridiculously short with lances, and sometimes monsters have crazy elemental weaknesses so faster hitting weapons shine.

Honestly as a Charge Blade user, a lot of us didn't even look how to play it, we just picked it Saw the basic (mainly charge and switch to axe to do big dmg) the most complecated stuff we usually learned it by just mashing random buttons till we stumble on it and memorised how to do , after that it's easy, every moves come naturally

As someone who beat the base game of monster hunter rise with practically only the longsword. I think the longsword isnt easy, but is as as some other weapons in the sense that you can ignore the counter mechanics an use it as just a sword. However, the strength to be unphased by attacks because you saw what the monster was going to do and countered it is powerful. It even works against powerful ranged attacks, even if it doesnt hurt the moster back. I would say a important part of the weapon is managing spirit gauge to always have enough to sprinkle some of the spirit attacks into your combo to extend the combo. And to have enough spirit gauge to perform a foresight slash without being left in the open if you forgot that you dont have enough spirit gauge. I switched weapons, but i still like the longsword.

Insect Glaive isn’t complicated, I picked it up in about 10 minutes after switching from HBG. Left trigger and hit Y then B until you get all three colors. Right trigger + A to vault, then move then stick in the direction of the monster and hit B. If the last hit connects, you automatically vault again, so you can keep using direction + B. Monsters also have a hard time hitting you because you’re in the air and moving a lot. It’s pretty fun.

Dual Blades!!!!!!!!!! I was the person that left you that essay of tips on a previous video. Dual blades are my favorite I like the Heavy bowgun (HBG), but not the light one (i normally like the faster weapons but for some reason it didnt click). HBG is on the slower side, yes...but it's worth trying out. Put a shield on it and you can block. The dodge roll moves surprisingly far, especially if you have evade extender. And WyvernHeart gives you a MINIGUN! If you were ever going to give any of the slower weapons a try, I would suggest HBG, and Gunlance because I'm biased lol. Also I believe sword and shield is lower on the list is because it's a jack of all trades master of none. Like he said it can "technically" do a lot of things other weapons can, but it does none of them better than any of the others. It's damage is lower like the dual blades but doesn't swing as fast or frequent technically making it's dps lower and in some cases its worse at afflicting statuses too for the same reason. Most of the time its better to specialize in 1 or 2 things than dabble in everything. But I say give any weapon that even slightly piqued your interest a try (even the slower ones), you may be surprised at the ones you end up liking. Happy Hunting!
@nimbusws2566Ай бұрын
it's not about what weapon is the easiest or even what tops tier lists... it's about what weapon vibes the best with you. But from my experience playing a handful of the weapons from World/Iceborne, the strengths and challenges of some of them include: Long Sword: + Great reach, great evasion, amazing i-frames that can get even better later on in the game with certain skills/upgrades. - Have to manage spirit gauge and time your spirit helmbreaker to not miss since most of your dps comes from it. Try not to trip your teammates. Please. Hunting Horn: + Buff you, buff your teammates, nerf the monster with a concussion. Iceborne especially feels extremely Dance-y but the D in Dance stands for Damage - You gotta stay mindful of your songlist and your songs' durations, but if you get into a flow you can do this basically passively while dealing damage. You can't cut tails. Hammer: + Deceptively mobile because you can charge your weapon while running around, and plenty of your attacks are accompanied by a forward lunge or similar move. Concussions. Concussions for everyone - May also use a surprising amount of stamina. Not as much as something like bow, dual blades, or insect glaive. Also you can't cut tails. Lance: + Fucking unmovable. Low DPS but good luck dying, and even with the "Low DPS" it's not like you'll struggle on the usual quest timer. You'll be in the action but you might barely feel the action since fights basically turn into rhythm games - Low DPS. Gunlance: + Think defense of the lance but more range and usually more damage. - But also your attacks take more commitment so that's less time you can spend behind the shield. Chargeblade: + Big explosions, lots of "guardpoints" (blocking frames in the middle of attacks), biiiig potential for elemental damage compared to gunlance's raw. Exhaust Phials let you give monsters concussions too - It has the most systems but you don't necessarily need all of them cuz you can, for example, focus more on SAED (big ult explosion) or Savage Axe (Chainsaw mode added in Iceborne) Insect Glaive: + Being airborne for so long means you're very evasive and can get hard-to-hit targets like wings and backs. Mounts are basically your dibs. - Stamina management is key, on top of your kinsect extracts and you have to build your kinsect ON TOP OF your weapon while managing the kinsect itself in combat too Dual Blades: + Very evasive, very mobile, lets you get in and out as long as you don't commit to something like Demon Dance which you can't interrupt. But also a lot of your damage comes from it so don't be scared to use it when you have an opening. Iceborne gave it Even More evasion options - Stamina management. So much stamina management. Bow/Bowguns: + You get to keep your distance more, aiming at specific parts might be easier compared to melee especially if you use mouse and keyboard. Bow phials give you a lot of flexibility - Stamina management again, also you're not able to snipe from across the map, bow's the most close ranged ranged weapon and if I remember correctly ranged weapons give you a defense debuff too to compensate for being out of the way of melee. If you're not careful you can die even more often than if you used a melee. Also resource management for phials / ammo for bowguns

Though I can use them just fine. On the topic of the slicing ammo, that video was made before that ammo type was nerfed iirc. It's still good for cutting tails as long as you have extra slash berries in your inventory. Can only hold 30 slicing ammo at a time and it may take 30-50 shots from it to cut off the tail or multiple people using it or bladed weapons helping you. Ranged weapons do require managing your botanical garden in order to keep crafting ammo and/or coatings. Though you want to manage it anyway so you don't waste money on potions

Really helps that it very much gives me loads of window to learn a monster's moves as I go through, which I believe should be your first approach before learning your weapon's capability I stuck with the GS until the end of Iceborne, then I started looking out to other weapons, like the long sword, hammer, lance and charge blade. I'm a Hunting Horn main and I absolutely love it. One sadly common misconception is that we're just support. In reality while HH may do less damage than other weapons, we bring amazing utility with only a minor damage decrease and the second you play with just one other player the HH becomes absolutely broken. The downside being, you need to make a lot of horns. Every horn has 3 colored notes it can play and there's 8 colors, meaning the songlist for each horn is limited to just the colors it can play. So if you want full access to HH's library of songs, you must construct additional horns. As for the more complicated sounding weapons, most weapons are actually rather easy to understand, especially charge blade. They just like to make it sound complex.

KZbin randomly recommended this to me, but there's few thing i love more than welcoming new fellow Hunters to the fold. ❤

Longsword is easy in regards to just being able to deal damage consistently. But hard to master when it comes to damage up time and being effective

Hell yeah fellow dual blades user! I love being a knife tornado

As a Charge Blade main, I started my MH journey w/ World and the Switch Axe. … I wanted a big axe that went “boom.” 😅 … Until I got to Legiana and got absolutely manhandled. Thankfully, all my Axe Mode spamming enabled me to finally figure out Charge Blade, specifically its Axe Mode. Granted, I never really use the phials, but when I do it’s by complete accidental coincidence. In the end, I got a bigger axe that made a bigger boom. (*… “Big Axe Go Boom.” …*)

Charge blade is actually my main weapon that I use in Monster Hunter World, can't wait to break it out in Wilds lol
@pyrethepielady1973Ай бұрын
Ive used lance, hunting horn, and switch axe They are all great weapons. Lance doesn't have much to it but does good damage and even a counter attack. Hunting horn is honestly easy to use if you know what you're doing. Switch Axe is kind of complicated I guess, I haven't done run with switch axe yet. I don't have iceborne so i don't know what else there is to the weapons
@alphagale7981Ай бұрын
One thing ill say is try all the weapons in the training area in astera which can be found in your room if you talk to the cat or if you have access to the map go to hunters notes then maps then world map go to astera and you’ll find the training area
@PUXBACKАй бұрын
As a switch axe main, just button mash and you’ll be good. But u gotta remember to sharpen or else your dmg goes down a ton

The hammer isnt as slow as it is said to be. Ive used the dual blades a lot (300 times maybe) but the hammer is my preferred weapon. Just use the right trigger and B/Square to use its better combo moveset
@KuroNeko22949Ай бұрын
A little bit late and you may know this but, as of the release of the DLC of monster hunter world you can use items with unsheathed weapons with all weapons now
@krystianwojtas1032Ай бұрын
As an sns main i can say with confidence that sns is the most versatile weapon in the game, perfect rush is overpowered, on demand mounts(sns has the strongest mounting dmg in the game and doesnt need a ledge) backhop has insane iFrames, and using items with a weapon unsheathed is more useful than it seams, before iceborne it was even more versatile because now everyone can use slinger while unsheathed
@GervilEtnadАй бұрын
for the first stream go to training grounds and hit pole with every weapon. When you feel comfortable with one play with that. If you feel bored swap weapons. That's what I did. Edit: if you play with controller the radial menu is exceptionally confusing but once you get it you get separation anxiety. Me speaking from experience.

All weapons are great, you just gotta find the one that works for you, I main longsword but I'm learning all the other weapons one at a time.though I didn't know about the counter moves of the long sword till I got to fatalisXD
@dragaleoreforged3999Ай бұрын
Btw longsword is the epitome of “low skill floor, Insanely high skill ceiling you could get crazy good at timing Longsword forsight parry’s and all the tech great choice for ya tho if dual blade dont feel good for you

Every weapon is good if you're good with it. I take down Alatreon and Fatalis with the SnS. And with the Lance and Gunlance if I have at least another person in the team. The SnS is a weapon good at everything, but master of none. It can stun, it's quick and has a last hit in the combo that does nice damage, it can block even if not as well as the Lance and Gunlance, allows you to jump dealing mounting damage, but not as effectively as the Insect Glaive. The best thing is that you don't need to sheathe it to use items nor the slinger, which makes it very tactical and the number one choice if you're going for a medic build.

I gravitate towards Charge Blade, but I like using all weapons because I like to hoard equipment and it is a shame to not use them a few times at least
@angielada7119 күн бұрын
To my experience, if you get inmerse in this game you'll end using most if not all weapons, i do depending the monster i hunt and how i have more fun playing arround them

sword and shield is one of the easier weapons to start using but also has a masive skill roof. easy to use, hard to master.
@avatarpanАй бұрын
All ten weapons are viable. I personally have a few of all of them because I find that more fun. There is a fantasy stereotype that they (for some reason) have in the game, even though it has the highest carting rate(great sword). And a high number trap that is the hammer. USE ANYTHING ELSE!

If a friend or new player ask if "which weapon to use and their good" i'll say if you like a that weapon let's say Great Sword or Sword&Sheild, or Dual Blades. try one of them out in training learn some basic combos and try hunting any monster with "that 1 weapon u like", if you like it that's good stick with it. A weapon is only good if you try more often and jewel skills in game can make any MH weapon turn op if u know how to use it well . Eventually u'll get use to it mastering it, before trying a new weapon out u haven't use yet, i have see one of my friends main one weapon and beat Monster Hunter World with just one weapon y? a few simple words "cuz it's cool", "it's my kind of play style" or "i pick hammer cuz i wanna be annoying and troll lunching players mid air lol". i main Great Sword for solo hunts, SnS (sword n shield) solo hunts or with friends, and lastly hunting horn with healing build if one of my friends dies too much lol cuz they have a hard time against mostly just any elder dragons and Rajang. too me a old mh player since MH1 Freedom to MHFU, MH3U, MH4U, it's easy dealing with Elder Dragons and fun, But to most of my friends MHW was their first MH game, i can't really be angry with that but it's kinda funny. Like whos here's also relate to that feeling lol carrying your friends and brothers or sisters to the end. jeez i get flash back with my other friend he was very new to Monster hunter back in 2020, ask me about Great Sword, he had no clue what Great Sword is and thinking it's great to use of his own words just cuz it's called "Great Sword". so i said this to him while being very very simple advice "okay listen Great Swords just means Big Fucking Sword to kill Big Fucking Monsters, Big sword slow and heavy but big sword do big fucking damage , RUN CHARGE SLASH ROLL SLEATH, rinse and repeat and big monster dies"

I don't know if you noticed but if you look at the title card of each episode the Long Sword gets longer and longer.

As a CB main i van understand you not wanting to play it, it seems like a lot. The same can be said about SA and IG. You need to know the weapon to use it effectively. I also use SNS, its very simple, well compared to the other weapons i use. I hope you try more than one weapon because its more fun that way 😊

One unfortunate thing about jocat's guide is that it's outdated since the addition of the clutch claw and access to the slinger for all weapons has added new levels of verticality and move sets/combos to everything.

SnS jumped from ok weapon to absolute fucking stupid in IB. Almost 3000 damages with optimized gear on PR alone.

I wouldn't call the hammer "slow." It is actually comical how mobile and fast you can be lugging around a giant weapon.
@bossmuffin3587Ай бұрын
Insect glaive is actually pretty simple. just make your pet bug hit the monster and proceed to never touch the ground again. XD
