For sailing, I think it’s key that there are permanent islands that unlock at various levels. Maybe the level 10 island has an amazing fishing activity. Maybe the level 20 island unlocks a slayer dungeon. Maybe level 70 has a new boss island and so on. If, in contrast, all the content is temporary (you explore a procedurally-generated island once and then never have access to it again), then this would end up feeling like a minigame more than a skill.

Shamanism has so much potential, I saw someone mention that they should call it druidism because of their relation to nature, to add to that idea perhaps you could tie the skill more directly to guthix, the spirit realm could be manifestations of Guthix's dreams while he slumbers which explains why you can access them through ingredients in nature, due to his ties with Geilenor. You can first hear of this skill from the snake in tears of guthix which explains why no one has participated in this skill prior, the snake tells the story of Guthix falling asleep and some details in the story allow us to enter a dream accidentally, the player can then go to the druids who figure out it has something to do with nature, quests could expand to relate to the karamjan natives and their totems are actually a form of shamanism that they had accidentally discovered, as the player levels he can better understand and relate to Guthix which explains why they can access higher level realms. Decisions and actions made in the realm could affect the natural world, you can establish a Dwarven ghost in power in one realm which could lead to an increased chance for an additional ore when mining. Or in the same realm choose to establish a gnome ghost to be able to have access to taming animals later, which could make a way of introducing taming at a later date, another cool idea could be making totem poles which have aoe buffs that takes multiple inventory spaces like the multi cannon, the benefits could range from passive prayer restore similar to the scarab in toa but slower to skilling buffs like decreased chance for a fishing spot to move, it can even create a portal to a specific hub location in the spirit realm that all players share and has a bank allowing access to a bank from certain locations, the downside could be a resource that the totem needs to stay functional, multiple people could contribute, to keep one totem running

What a great idea Spiffy - I hope shamanism wins too and has a lot to offer with adding to the existing art style instead of changing it by offering changes like glowing buffs to items or the character as a whole depending on the buff and have effects like smoke/heat/fire/wet to help or interact with different environments or tasks. They could do something like leaving a trail of wet foot prints behind your last 6-8 steps you took on the map or a burnt trail/frozen trail/smoky trail/mystic trail or add an effect like sparks or bubbles when interacting with a tree for wcing or rocks as a buff when mining to add to the art style with out tainting it because we all know how the OSRS feels about ruining the nostalgia and classic feeling of the existing game lol

I'm curious why Guthix wasn't mentioned at all in the Shamanism pitch. I get that having a Guthix-themed skill would make red and blue teams jealous. But If you're going to have a skill centered around nature, you got to at least mention him. Maybe you could visit the Druids, the Seers, and maybe even the lizardmen shamans to get a sort of amalgamation of mysticism. It would be nice to have an excuse to visit Kaqemeex and check in on that alter of theirs anyway.

Most of all for me being able to build and customize a ship would be great. If there were trophies to add to the ship to show off certain achievements (like for killing a sea raid boss) that would be a fun way to show off what content you've completed. For some inspiration on how naval battles and charting could work in Runescape, check out another classic Java-based game called Puzzle Pirates. I think a turn-based strategic ship battle on a grid would fit very well within Runescape while using hitsplats & RnG for cannonfire and other weapons, etc. Also the bigger the boat, the more crew members can fit onto it which would encourage co-op play. Some players would bilge water, repair the hull, fire the canons, adjust the sails, while the captain navigates the boat (Think fishing trawler but more involvement/more engaging). There could be minigames for each crew member role and the better you perform, the faster you can reload the cannon, increase the ships speed or movement capability (with sails), etc.. Canonball ammo would be purchasable/craftable. Higher tiers of ammo & weapons become unlocked with leveling. You could hook onto an enemy boat after defeating them at sea and engage into classic Runescape PvP once aboard. If in a "wilderness" type area, the winner of the battle could plunder another team's ship.

I'll vote for Taming if I can Tame an Impala at level 99 All joking aside.... If taming can capture the feeling of a Nintendo Pokemon game then I am all up for it. I got really tickled by the 'taming them all' line! Sailing reminds me of an old Pirates of the Caribbean game I used to play from bethesda in which you played in first person mode. but whenever you were sailing the seas, you would enter a cartoony map view. In which you needed to avoid pirates and storms, but were also able to interact with friendly ships. Once you entered an encounter with these, the game would bring you into sailing mode in which you could shoot the other ships with your cannons, and once you started boarding these ships you were back in 1st person mode. This was one of my favorite games as a child and I remember collecting the biggest warships as i could very fondly. If the game manages to capture this vibe i am all up for sailing as well. The only thing I worry about is how the sailing skill would coexist next to already existing sailing methods like bone voyage, fishing trawler and the regular charter ships. Otherwise, the skill feels like it could be a very organic part of the game and the lore, driven by the incentive to explore the world of rs. Shamanism however, feels like a skill that we've already seen. It reminds me a lot of summoning, (with its untradable items), enchanting items with magic, and herblore. I feel like the solutions that shamanism provides could also be fulfilled through already existing skills. The skill to me feels like divination in RS3, a skill released for the sake of being a new skill and it does not solve a problem that is already in the game, rather it creates a problem to be solved through this skill.

My 2 cents. Taming - DOA Sailing - Could be good, lots of room for expansions and having it behave like Construction where you grind away to X level and that level unlocks something (ie A farming island, a slayer dungeon etc) allows endgame items to be 'locked' behind it. Shamanism - Similar to Sailing I can see it being a 'grind to X' an unlocked certain things for use elsewhere in game. I like the huge options that Totems, Incenses etc add to the game which could be used to bring buffs to existing skills. I'd be happy with either Sailing or Shamanism provided they have both enjoyable and rewarding levelling, and good end game applications.

HEAR ME OUT: I love the ideas, but I think we should maybe get 2-3 more pitches before we bring it to a vote. Like stated, while more skills/ideas could be added in the future, its about right now and I think people want to see a couple more options. While 3 is great, there is sort of a limit and the extra 2-3 pitches could be a great way to see other ideas or potential ones. Taming sounds great, but could it be a hunter expansion? Shamanism is awesome. I personally love sailing, but wonder what else is out there......anyone else agree?

I disagree. Because if given to many options, the vote will be split to much. Thus making it difficult to determine which skills attract the most interest. I would suggest this though. After deciding which skill to go with, have a second vote to either pick one of the other 2 skills, or have a third option that would vote for "new ideas". This would allow the team to see if there was strong interest in the 2 skills that got beat by the first skill

1)Shamanism 2)Taming -nty Sailing lol Most interested in Shamanism, could have some permeant and some timed bonuses/buffs, why limit to just one or the other and should be displayed with different effects like glowing/smoke/frozen/icy/wet water dripping effects leaving a trail or water or foot prints and have effect for interaction like bubbles/flash when you interact with things like a tree when wcing or rocks when mining to protect the original art form we all love with existing items. This would add effects and cool alterations to existing things with out ruining the nostalgia or classic feeling. I think additions like that go over much smoother than drastic changes with the OSRS community. Taming comes in at a close second for me. I love the idea of different creature having different personalities and attributes for specific environments and skill/combat assisting … I was always upset you could get cats and hell cats as a pet but never dogs I always wanted a hell hound … now that would be cool to do a slayer task with the help of a hell hound instead of my cannon. Sailing doesn’t appeal too much to me, why would I sail when I can T E L E P O R T and afk fishing sharks with the occasional fishing boss is perfect for me I don’t see any real be fit besides hunting a cracken or something and that’s not enough to fill a full skill… also sailing sounds like a bunch of boring quests I’ll never want to do definitely a hard pass for me

Sailing sounds like a fun minigame but I am having a hard time imaging it being it's own skill. The closest thing I can think of is Dungeoneering which felt more like a minigame to me, from what I could remember. I love the idea of taming animals. Taming pets as a Hunter in WoW was one of my favorite things to do there. I was also a fan of Pokemon and Digimon when I was a kid so the battling and leveling aspect of it sounds cool. I'm not a fan of Summoning in RS3. I want a pet I can name, train, and build a relationship with. When I first heard of the three pitched skills this is the one I fell in love with. However, after watching this video I think I might be Team Shamanism now. It sounds like there's so much potential for that skill and I think it would fit in OSRS better. The spirit realm aspect of this skill is intriguing and I think it would be cool to explore. Especially if it ties into other skills (special ores in the spirit realm? special trees? Bosses?). I would love to see all three of these get implemented into the game. I was able to play on release day for Farming, Construction, and Hunter and it was always a ton of fun exploring new content and learning how it fit into the game. I know a lot of players don't like change (which is why we're still playing a game from 2007) but I think change can be good for a game like this. As long as core mechanics and graphics style stays the same, I'd love to see new stuff get added. (I hated EoC, the removal of free trade, and the Wilderness changes back in the day and never want to see such drastic changes in OSRS but I think new skills would be great.)

You have no idea how happy I was to hear sailing. I honestly want sailing more than I want a new skill. The oceans of runescape are just begging to be explored I'm also pleased to hear about dwarven steamships. I hope there is some sort of wind mechanic that the steamship bypasses. A few months ago I spent a week on a presentation suggesting mechanics. It will feel so good if I see some of the ideas come to fruition.

@andrewprahst2529 Жыл бұрын
@@ameerkherbawi8466 Well for one thing, being able to walk around your ship and control it at the same time wasn't even on my radar as a possibility. I was a little uneasy at first, not sure if they could pull it off well, but I think it is the best way to go. I mean otherwise, if you got boarded and had to fight the enemies off, would your ship now be a sitting duck now that you're no longer controlling it? Or would it be invincible/invisible? So I think the way they're doing it does make the most sense. But I still need to see a lot more to have any strong opinions. For example, how exactly do you operate a big ship with crewmates? Will you be able to see very far ahead with the camera zoomed into the ship? How will wind mechanics be handled? In my post, wind had a pretty role (sails are meant to catch wind afterall). For example, I thought you might want to change your route or even destination based on changing wind direction to make training dynamic and interesting. I thought you could zigzag for optimal head-wind sailing, use run energy to row and ignore wind altogether, or hire a seer to predict wind changes before they happen. All we've really seen so far is that you click the sail to trim it, so a lot is to be announced. I just hope they do something to make basic navigation a little interesting. A more minor thing is weapons. In my post I talked about having ballistas to give use to low level javelins, and a firethrower to make use of salamanders. So far we have three kinds of cannons, one of which is dragonfire. I hope to see weapons I mentioned, maybe the salamander fire as a more close range option.

OSRS Devs, I really like Shamanism thematically, and love the idea of gathering untradeables and exploring new mystical territory. That being said, I have some concerns about adding augmentation to the game, especially as the skill's primary reward system as pitched. While I can't see the poll results about augmentation, this aspect of the skill feels polarizing. Can you reassure us that the skill could be useful but not game-breaking? Are you open to the community exploring different reward systems entirely from augmentation or buffing? When I think of Shamanism, augmentation and buffing don't immediately come to mind.

I feel like sailing can work really great as a long asked-for "slayer for skilling". The main problem with the proposal of a skilling slayer is that it would be inefficient training - most skills, such as mining or woodcutting, have straightforward better xp options as you get bigger levels, and getting a task for an ore or tree in the middle of nowhere for poor xp is bad design. Sailing could work great in this regard - offer scaleable skilling activites, that give passive sailing xp, just like killing a monster on a task gives slayer xp. This would give even more incentive to train sailing, as larger levels would maybe unlock better xp methods? Honestly, out of the three skills mentioned Shamanism seems the most interesting, but if Sailing passes I'd like to see something like what I've mentioned be integrated.

Shamanism seems to be the one that connects with other content the most and feels like it's something that belongs rather than an addition. Plus I feel like sailing would just be a huge buggy mess and take massively more amount of time to fine-tune. Taming like 7asty says would just make every content in the game outdated right away since no boss as of right now was intended for u to bring a companion. Thralls already give us an insane dps increase what would it look like having a dragon and thrall. Maybe if they took thralls away and gave us pets? So that dps increase wouldn't feel so free to attain?

tbh I think they should avoid making them too much like Summoning combat. Maybe have the option to receive a skill boost from different animals at a 30 minutes interval. If taming were to pass, i would love to see an interaction with our pets. It would give them a purpose even if it was just a transmog option system. For sailing, maybe it would be cool to make this an OS version of a culmination skill (e.g., Invention), where other stats aren’t necessarily required to train sailing, but higher construction, crafting, thieving, and/or fishing for example benefit the skill and sailing activities also train those other skills by a small amount. Finally, I think I like the shamanism idea of enhancing equipment, but it’s not something I would want to upkeep all the time. Maybe enchanting an item with shamanism with a small stat boost or minor additional effect is permanent, but you can replace the effect with a different one whenever you want by performing another ritual. Also, i think it would be fair to make the item permanently untradable in order to create a sink. Or, you can pay a large amount of gold to an NPC to revert the item back to it’s original state to make it tradeable again.

I think sailing could be a great addition as a skill. It pairs so well with so many other skills, wood cutting, crafting, construction, fishing, and then getting you to new locations for other skills. Taming could easily be a hunter expansion rather than a whole new skill. It feels really niche to me too. Shamanism is a really cool concept to me, but seems better suited as a new spellbook than a whole new skill. Would be cool to have stackable components like mushrooms and herbs and such to cast shamanistic spells rather than runes.
