nah the two biggest army-wise cities in skyrim both lost pretty sure the problem was that both windhelm and solitude streets have too much tight spaces and walls blocking the view for the guards, meahwhile other cities had open spaces creating room for the archers i think markarth is the best against giants with it's narrow paths and elevated environment giving archers the high ground

100%, the archers are so important. When the archers don’t have space to let arrows fly, the city is in trouble. I’m still in disbelief that Solitude didn’t get the job done though.

neet experiment, can you do the same with the four minor hold capitals or smaller towns? Seems to be a correlation between how open and easy to path for the AI a city is, the easier time it has beating the giants. Solitude was too spread out to get a guard kill ball big enough, and windhelm was too segmented, so they fed their kills in small batches. Markarth struggled a bit because of its complicated layout, but since it was open instead of with high walls, the ranged support was able to manifest where it couldn't in windhelm. I'd like to know if the smaller populations are still able to win if they have a better layout.
