I feel like they should just make Marine Raiders do the mission SEALs do so it doesn’t get messed up. All jokes aside, I think Marine Raiders should take over the VBSS job the SEALs currently have and just have the SEALs focus on scuba and underwater demolition missions. I’ve seen Force Recon Marines and Raiders do VBSS and they are just as good if not better than SEALs.
@TheLAGopher4 ай бұрын
Ironically,Force Recon was created in 1957,5 years ahead of the Navy SEALs in 1962. Force Recon looked down on the SEALs as not being well grounded in infantry skills such as patrolling and at first,refused to work with them. Had the Marine Corps let Force Recon become part of SOCOM in 1987 when it was formed, Force Recon,which had a long history of operating deep behind enemy lines, in North Vietnam, likely have been the go to guys to augment Army SF and Delta in Afghanistan. DEVGRU would also have likely become a more unique unit like Delta,because it would have brought in Force Recon Marines as highly skilled in maritime operations as the SEALs to create a mixed organization.

@deathtocommunists52 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, Americans do not understand marxism AT ALL. In fact, you’ll see a lot of American patriots who are truly fans of meritocracy, slide into allowing the marxist narrative to infiltrate their minds. I’ve seen a ton of my fellow veterans say things like, “You mage your own way, but it will be a little harder if you’re black.” That is complete nonsense and it’s marxism in its purest form. I admire people from Eastern Europe and South America in particular because you guys actually recognize marxism when you see it. The vast vast majority of the military here is conservative, but they are overwhelmingly politically inept; don’t recognize marxism is being snuck into their minds when they aren’t looking.

I think that is the biggest misnomer with seals. Even when I talk to other seals, the bravado gets in the way. Yes they spend more per man than the average Marine Infantry 03, but I have seen them stack a detachment with the baddest dudes in the battalion to go on a small deployment (east timor in the 90's) and they did just fine. The Army and the Marine Corps come from an infantry centric culture, and legs and Marine grunts go on to bigger and better things I.E. Recon, Marsoc, Rangers, ODA's and Delta. They already have the basic building blocks of being an infantryman and have that humility built into them. Seals do not, they either come from the fleet as a mechanic ect or a pipeline straight into seals. Most of them may have never lead at the small unit level at all. The Army and Marines, MOST of those guys have lead at some form or fashion before entering into the SOF community. I hate seeing veterans tear down other veterans, but we need to go back to a baseline. The hate is palpable in this community.
@TheLAGopher4 ай бұрын
The NSW community is very set aside from the typical Navy sailor. There is no larger Infantry community to give the average sailor a solid base of Infantry skills,experience,and professionalism. The SEALs are held in awe by the wider Navy which doesn't reign them in by reminding them that they are tools in a toolbox.And that ultimatley, they are enablers for the Infantry soldier or Marine who win the wars.

Don't listen to the guy above. SFOD-D should have been chosen for the mission-type. The only reason they weren't was because the operation's commander was a Navy guy and chose them for "cool guy"/"better branch" points.
@cbeaudry46464 ай бұрын
@rickybobby8704 Ya I don't think that's accurate since my limited understanding is that they practiced it a lot, & that part of the reason for the helicopter crash was that they used chain-link fences in practice instead of solid ones. IJN_Guy is right. The commander of JSOC (Tier 1 elements) from 2008 to 2011 was a Navy Vice Admiral (3 star general) so he gave it to devgru. Up until that point JSOC was commanded by army generals from its creation in 1980 up until 2008. So ofcourse devgru got it during his tenure as CO of JSOC Both DevGru and Delta have squadrons always on standby (they rotate) to he on notice and can fly out to where ever in the world within 24 hours. Now the Osama raid was trained on for MONTHS before it was actually done. Purely political that Devgru got it.

Yessir, as a Marine I personally concur. MARSOC is dope but theyre new. You have to respect experience. Army Special Forces are literally...SPECIAL FORCES. Delta came out of them- not even the Rangers can say that. Being a force multiplier by training both conventional and special operations troops to either over throw regimes or support regimes just cements their effectiveness. With that being said, I think its a good thing MARSOC chose to model more of a Green Beret approach vice a Navy SEAL approach. I'm not sure if MARSOC would ever get the UW mission, but I' sure the Green Berets appreciate the extra help with FID. Nations don't have to be oveethrown in support of a larger goal all the time, but they do have to be defended. Let's not forget that the Marine Corps also has a solid track record of Security Force Assistance.

I think you did a great job qualifying your why you think SF is the best. If other people could pull their heads out of their butts, they'd be able to see the very real and valid points you made. Also, my Dad said roughly the same thing 30 years ago when I was a kid.

Have you ever heard about us sf units doing operations in mexico?
@DannyDrillz03xx2 ай бұрын
Spot on with marsoc. Personally think their biggest hinderance will be the Marine Corps itself. They kinda hate the special cool guy shit. They’ll likely end up doing the same mission set as S.F.Just internal to whatever mission the Marine Corps gets tasked with. Basically a more advanced F.R. No need for the Marine Corps to have a jsoc asset.

Any thoughts on the Defense Clandestine Service? Are they basically like the ISA/TFO?

Imma go ahead and say it, just dissolve Air Force special recon and give Marine recon that SOF slot, for Christ sake like honestly despite them being in MAGTF. Their experience out ways the AF by a mile in terms of the whole “recon mission” But hey that’s just what I think
@deathtocommunists52 ай бұрын
Well, I can tell you’re not Air Force for two reasons: 1. The content of your comment, and 2. The fact that you said “out ways”. It’s outweighs; as in volume weight of experience. You’re welcome from the Air Force.

Do they still have SOT-A's in Army SF, im curious to know. If i was younger id try out for them but the 18-E coms folks, TACP and CCT are would have interested me since i love amateur radio and being battery powered with HF radios as a dumb civilian.
@ValhallaVFT4 ай бұрын
They’re attached to us. We typically had them on all our missions. Hard to talk about their scope of duty though because so much of it is sensative

@@ValhallaVFT thank you, the SOT-A and 18-E both sound cool I'm sure both have rudimentary skills on fox hunting "civilian version of radio direction finding" that stuff fascinates me a lot. Have a great day, bring kitty on your videos more lol. Take care

I've said for years, SF is the toolbox of special operations. I jumped out of my seat when you used the term "toolbox" to describe them! I felt vindicated! 😂 No SOF unit is more comprehensive than the mighty green berets!! Green Berets will always be my favorite SOF unit! Oh, and yes, Navy Seals & NSW are too toxic to be anywhere near the top!

That's because for many years,counter-terrorism and direct action became the end all be all of US Special Operations. I sometimes wonder how US Special Ops would have evolved had Charlie Beckwith been turned down by the Army wanting to create Delta as an SAS style small unit raiding force.And had the CT mission simply been another core mission within Special Forces which had a unit called "Blue Light" which had the CT mission for 2 years while Delta was being stood up. In someways keeping Blue Light would have made it's home ,5th Group more akin to 22 SAS, which still carries out US Special Forces type missions,while rotating squadrons through the CT standby mission. In the 70s both the Special Forces with Blue Light and the SEAL community with MOB SIX addressed CT like the SAS did. It was just another mission set to prepare for. Delta and SEAL Team Six created units that focused on CT full time with infinate resources,but where real world missions were scarce.
