Btw Spydercos BD-1N steel is far from "almost junk, almost good" steel. It's a relatively fine grained and small carbide steel that performs very similarly to CPM-S30V as far as edge holding and corrosion protection goes and offers a slight advantage in toughness and chip resistance and cost. It sharpens very easily on conventional stones though ceramics are recommended. Diamond does just as well but isn't required. BD-1N takes on a ferocious edge, holds it as well as S30V yet easily touches up with a few swipes on a ceramic rod and straps back to hair popping sharp several times between sharpening. One of my Spydy manix-2s in BD-1N has been going strong with almost daily use for over 6 months with nothing but 1 touch up on ceramic rod and 3 or 4 stroppings. I'd say that's far from borderline junk. BD-1N isn't as hot and sexy as 15V, M390, S90V or Magnacut but it does offer super steel performance at a budget level price. I really can't see how any of that could be misconstrued as a bad thing.

Yes you’re correct I don’t really mess with bd1n much I carry my 20cv hogue Deka but I said almost junk when it’s a superior steel
@holdernewtshesrearin5471 Жыл бұрын
@@pocketknivescollector5861 - gotcha. 20CV/M390/CTS-204P is all basically identical and is definitely an upgrade over BD1N but a costly one. CPM-M4 is my all time favorite pocket knife steel so long as corrosion isn't a concern. M390/20CV/204P often gets the nod if it is. 15V is the new hotness and I think will prove to be the steel to have though none of the good stuff is going away. I'm just glad innovators like Spyderco are out there producing models in a variety of steels. There's something for everyone.

@@holdernewtshesrearin5471 I love M4 I have it in my edc fixed blade the hogue extrak but the ulti clip on the sheath is grinding so that fixed blade is sitting for a bit until I order a new one but I’m carrying my 52100 steel Montana knife company speedgoat so not as good as m4 but I still need to carry a fixed blade!

@@pocketknivescollector5861 - that Hogue is a sweet knife. 52100 is a ball bearing steel and makes an excellent knife blade. Very fine grained and wear resistant stuff. I had a Spyderco mule in 52100 years ago. I don't currently possess any knives in it now though. It's good stuff however.

Manix 2 g10 is $151. Hard to beat that. No S45vn on the manix. S110v model has skeletonized liners and is lighter then the s30v g10 manix 2. Both great knives. Especially the g10 s30v manix for $151.+

That's EASY! ALL of them! But seriously, imo everyone should have a para-military-2 and/or a manix-2, a military/military-2 and/or para-3 could be a substitute, a delica/endella/endura, a native-5, atleast 1 or 2 of the premium Taichung, Taiwan produced models and maybe a tenacious. Those are the staple models. Anything over and above those is just icing on the cake. Or better yet you could get 3 of each model in different configurations and different steels. Spyderco ROCKS!

When I can’t decide which to carry I just carry more than 1! I carry a leatherman multi tool, my normal edc knife, and a fixed blade
@holdernewtshesrearin5471 Жыл бұрын
@@pocketknivescollector5861 - I get it. I carry 1 knife as my do-it-all work knife, usually one of my Spyderco manix-2s in S30V or BD1N, ZT-0561 Hinderer in Elmax, Benchmade 560 "super freek" in M4, Cold Steel rajah-3 in AUS-8A or Ontario RAT-1 in D2. Then I usually carry a back-up knife, usually a premium model but just because it feels good or perhaps a new knife that I'm testing. My Leatherman Wingman or one of the others is usually along for the ride as well. Or on occasion when I just can't kick that manix-2 out of my primary pocket but I have 2 new knives to test I'll give the multi tool the boot and carry 3 knives. Its a sickness. I know.

Don't get any of those knives. Get the police model. You'd like that one. I'd take the BD1N also for those times when you want to carry a secondary knife that looks more friendly in an urban environment. Personally I prefer a flat grind, but I'm flexible.

My favorite Spyderco has to be the para military 2 that I showed and that’s because of the s45vn steel and the size of it but for looks it isn’t something that looks the friendliest because of the size but my only complaint is the price and I don’t think that it’s worth the price but I found it for $50 off and I wasn’t going to let that slide because I always wanted the Spyderco that was the most popular
