Doesn't make sense why New Jersey was supposed to lose draft picks for circumventing the cap when they tried signing Kovalchuk to a 17 year deal (they ended up retaining those draft picks, but the original deal was outlandish and it would come back to haunt the franchise even though they reduced it by 2 years), yet the Blackhawks didn't for not only employing a s*x offender who ruined the playing careers of at least two prospects, which ended up destroying the legacies of everyone else involved with the organization (mostly the players, coaching staff, and front office personnel), but also for giving said s*x offender letters of recommendations, which led to him ruining a teenager's mental health by doing the same thing that he did when he was part of the organization. I understand why they kept quiet about it during their 2010 playoff run, even though I would have still let the commissioner know about it and that I planned on dealing with it after the playoffs, but they should have addressed the issue that following summer, instead of trying to bury it only for it to be discovered a decade later.

I feel the most acceptable winner in North America would be Edmonton. However, if it can't be Vegas, I'd prefer it be Arizona. For various reasons I have a soft spot for them. Somehow, us Vegas fans would muddle through with the hate if we repeated. I mean, we've been doing it since June 13th 2022. Oh, and unless their fanbase got nasty, or there was a major controversy in a Vegas / L.A. game that went in their favor, I'm kind of OK with L.A. winning (if it can't be Vegas, of course). For all the pre-franchise debate on whether it would be Arizona or Los Angeles that we'd have the rivalry with, the winner turned out to be the Sharks.

The unfortunate issue I always find with Canadian team fans especially is that many of them loudly declare that they only want "their team" to break the Canadian drought and root against all the rest. The problem with this mentality being that Canadian teams have a reputation now of going on a Cinderella run before running out of gas in the Finals and then being dismantled in the following off season and all the big names follow the money south. If one team, any Canadian team, could finally break through, I'm sure the rising tide would raise all ships and good players would see that while the taxes and the weather may not be as nice, it is possible to win in the North, and the game is a lot more fun when you're winning.

It's interesting. I knew Oilers fans who cheered for Vegas after the Oilers were defeated out of respect (myself included), but I'm not sure how common that is. A lot of Vegas fans seem to really despise the Oilers.

i can get behind that. personally i'm indifferent about canada winning a cup, but that ticks pretty much every box for me that doesn't involve my own team winning the cup (LA). not a rival, respectable group of players, the fans have gone through suffering, and it's not a fanbase that i really find particularly mockable.

My guesses- 1. Bruins, they've put in so much effort in 2019 and 2023. 2. Oilers, fans want McDavid and Drai to get a cup even though all Canadian teams suck. There's a pretty big drop off after these 2 teams imo. The rest are fairly close- Canes, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Panthers, Stars, etc. Teams that have put up a good fight in the playoffs for years. Fans were hype for the Kraken last season, but it's going to be draining if a brand new team wins anytime in the next 7-8 years.

In a league filled with so many garbage teams or teams with 0 heart, I appreciate teams like the Bruins that take the competitive side seriously.

I think if history shows us anything, any time a Canadian team has been to the Finals since 1993, the rest of Canada has had a hard time supporting them. Vancouver fans hate the Leafs, most of Canada cheering for Boston in 2011, etc etc. I’d be happy with any Canadian team winning the cup, but ask some people in Canucks Facebook groups and I’m not representative of the wider at least internet fandom. The Canucks have had serious rivalries with pretty much every Canadian team, particularly the Alberta teams, Toronto and Winnipeg going back to the original Jets. In terms of most hated, it’s probably still Vancouver and Toronto. Everyone wants to see them lose.

As an outsider (Swede) I always root for teams where my countrymen really makes a difference, and also consider the suffering factor. So, for the upcoming season I would really like Vancouver ot Buffalo win it (yeah, right...). Apart from them, Rangers (Zibanejad), Boston (Ullmark, Lindholm) or Nashville (with Filip Forsberg back in form) would be nice.

Perkele, Vancouver is one of my least favourite teams for this very reason. Nashville has Saros, Lankinen, Tolvanen and Puustinen to make up for it though. I really root for everyone who isn't from Canada, Sweden, Russia or the USA. Yeah, Vegas winning the cup was abysmal for me. Dallas would be ideal :D

I also think backlash of McDavid being hyped could push an Edmonton win all the way down to the bunny row. In a similar vein, I am not sure how many people right now want to see Ovechkin celebrating anything.

Seattle winning could put some serious pressure on the league to make things tougher on expansion teams which can't possibly help league expansion down the road. Toronto winning would either cause most of the fanbase around the rest of the league to melt down or large parts of Canada to burn down. Or both.

i don't track baseball, so i'm not sure which this means. if it's an obnoxious fanbase, that'd be Boston, with an arguement for toronto, but mostly boston. haven't really had any issues with rangers fans. if it's a team that's just constantly good, i don't know that we've really seen any teams like that in the last 20-ish years. detroit is about as close as i can get mentally, and they have sucked for the past ten years.

I'm super objective as a Hawks fan, I'm grateful the Hawks won three Cups.. I'm kinda rooting for the Oilers while the Hawks suck.. So yea, I hope Edmonton can win a Cup, and even Toronto - yea, it's painful to admit it considering I don't like Leafs fans (generally, lol) - I'm sure there are wonderful Leafs fans - I just don't like the ones that believe every star player should want to put on the Maple Leaf to satisfy a crazy fanbase... But look, I think the Hawks could be a "Darkhorse" - and by December they could be prominent in the standings, the Hawks bring Kane back and they automatically become an offensive juggernaut... Look, if Vegas and Seattle can just build a contender then I don't understand why an established team cant rebuild on the fly??... And it's funny because most Hawks fans are so humble - they believe this rebuild will take a half decade, lol... It really blows my mind how passive Hawks fans are... Look, this season is all about addressing strengths and weaknesses - the Hawks have ton of cap space to get any player they want - and fill these holes - and there is no doubt in my mind the Hawks will target Auston Matthews - imagine Bedard and Matthews down the middle??? lol...
