I think overall TMNT 2012 is just the perfect blend of what the Turtles have been over the years. The series is comedic, emotional and sometimes dark. Thanks to it's pretty long run it was able to pick something from almost all of the series history, both in story lines, tone and characters. Doesn't mean it's the best the turtles have ever been but if someone would ask me what TMNT is all about, I would definitely recommend TMNT 2012 (especially speaking of shows/cartoons)
@CitrusArchitect2 жыл бұрын
I think ppl would be more open to Rise if they viewed it just like “Spiderverse”. No one complained about Peter Parker’s character or gender-swapped Doc Ock - it was just cool! I love Rise’s twists, the Casey reveal, and even how Raphael was the leader. Rise’s existence doesn’t erase the other shows or their equally excellent quality! TMNT is just the best. 🐢👊
@christopherbennett58582 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Which shouldn’t be too hard considering how multiverse stories happen in almost every iteration. I mean, April changes jobs, age, hair and species in previous iterations. Why was race so hard to swallow?
@whichcache25172 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but Peter Parker being depressed and a "gender-swapped Doc Ock" (read as, Olivia Octavius) wasn't anything new by the time Spider-Verse came out. They were both based off of existing material that got relevant enough to be referenced in the movie, much like everything else that came with it. I like most of the changes in Rise, but some, like Baxter becoming a child media influencer, or the Purple Dragons becoming a trio of highschool hackers, were just too baffling to suspend my disbelief for. That's what my problem with Rise was character-wise, Black April and Girl Casey were fine.
@squash.14622 жыл бұрын
Also I found it really funny that people refused to watch rise because Leo wasn’t in charge when in the original tmnt movies, Raph was the leader anyways
@whichcache25172 жыл бұрын
@@squash.1462 Not quite. While it is true that Turtle Power by Partners in Kryme (which plays in the 1990 movie) had the lyrics- “Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello make up the team with one other fellow, Raphael. He's the leader of the group, transformed from the norm by the nuclear goop.” -Raphael wasn’t actually the leader in the 1990 movie. It became a bit of a meme/misconception for a while (usually with there being a rivalry between him and Leonardo over who should be leader in some works) before it finally got a payoff in Rise with Raphael being the official leader instead of a temporary one.

I love tmnt 2012 because the elements are so balanced; the action, the humor, the family fluff, the angst, etc. Loved how they use 'enemies to friends' trope for most characters' interaction. The only thing I don't like is the shredder's motivation. All he thought about was revenge. He literally cared more about getting revenge than saving earth and his daughter. I was hoping he had more plausible motivation for hating Splinter, or at least turn him into a morally grey character. But no, he was pure evil for some reason
@angelheart55842 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I think they wanted to imply that he sort of went insane over the years. He wasn't pure evil, because at one point he was the underdog to his brother (Hamato Yoshi). Hamato would best him in every aspect of life, including love. He was jealous and heartbroken, and kind of manipulative, but when their master and Hamato's wife died he lost all the things that he was adamant on fighting for. He even thought Hamato was dead, the man who he had grown up alongside with as a brother. And even before all of that happened, he was told that he was only adopted because his father was the previous leader of The Foot clan, a clan notorious for evil back then. He thought he lost everything. But when he found Niwa (I hope I spelt that right.) he remembered how he promised Hamato's wife that he'd take care of them both. So, with a heavily burnt face and not much of another choice, he took Niwa and went to rebuild The Foot. Over the years he became obsessed with being better than Hamato was, so much so that he manipulated himself into believing that Karai was his biological daughter and Hamato was the one who killed her mother (Hamato's wife). He fell into a slight madness due to his obsessions, which drove him to strive for perfection and become the malevolent clan leader he became. The big thing, however, is that revenge wasn't his motive for moving to New York. Or starting up The Foot again. See, he had also become obsessed with keeping Niwa as his own. He put her through vigorous training all of her life and kept her in the dark about her true past, even changing her name so that she'd have no ties to Hamato. He fed her lies to ensure that she would be his. Except to him it was the truth, because he'd been telling himself those very lies for years. He lost bits and pieces of his mind before he even got to New York. And he only really went there because going was something Hamato's wife wanted to do. But when he learned that Hamato was also there, that he now had other kids, and that those kids were ruining his empire that had taken him over 15 years to build. . . He started to lose a lot more sanity a lot faster than before. But he only wanted to stop the turtles from destroying his empire first. He didn't even know Hamato was alive when he knew of the turtles. It was when he learned that bit of information that he wanted to kill them all.
@Isokatmydydecsf2 жыл бұрын
Well he wasn’t totally pure pure evil ( but he did sounded kinda dumb/insane repeating the turtles splinter thing ) since he still cared about Karai despite using her, since as Super shredder he had to do a lot of injections before not hesitating against the Karai hologram Édit ; nvm the comment above me did it better
@patrickstyle248162 жыл бұрын
Shredder's motivation in 2012 was still probably the best one though. The other Shredders all wanted to conquer or destroy Earth just because they wanna. Especially 2003. Like the guy had no backstory at all and does evil things just because.

Leo from Rise was meant to eventually become the leader because of how suited he was for it, but the show got canceled so the writers had to rush everything.
@pepita243711 ай бұрын
But that's the thing. In most iteration Leo became the 'leader' because he was the most responsible from the start. And in ROTTMNT Leo is not suited to be a leader. He is very selfish (tho is willing to apologize) self centered. He is willing to make the worst decisions to 'look' cool. In ROTTMNT he just outright puts his brothers in danger. I know the writers intended to make him a leader trough a lengthy progress, but why bother? Raph was perfectly fine as the 'leader' in this iteration. Leo had nothing which made him more suitable than Raph, except his penchant of making inspiring speeches. And the will of the writers.
@rise.-mikey11 ай бұрын
@@pepita2437 It was a build up for his character growth, which was rushed because Nickelodeon...it' what he learned in the movie. Take responsibility.
@pepita243711 ай бұрын
@@rise.-mikey In most iterations Leo was the responsible kid from the start, and that is why he was chosen as a leader. In the comics/cartoons Leo was always focused, responsible, driven, and self sacrificing. Most of these abilities he had from childhood, were good, and bad at the same time. He was also an introvert in most iterations. ROTTMNT fundamentally changed the character. I would have been able to accept ROTTMNT Leo as Leo, if they didn't made him an attention seeking clown. I think Mutant Mayhem Leo is far better as far as an inexperienced Leo goes, who is not a leader yet.
@rise.-mikey11 ай бұрын
@@pepita2437 That's the point of Rise, the changes. It was a nice chance of pace from every single almost identical iteration with Leo.
@pepita243711 ай бұрын
@@rise.-mikey None of the Leo's were almost identical, but they were still recognizable. 12 Leo was geeky, and the other turtles always made fun of his very archaic sense of honor. 03 Leo was vey focused, and was constantly fighting with his feeling of inadequacy, and his past traumas (he even had PTSD) BAyverse Leo was very cautious, but at the same time they made him very controlling. Original Mirage TMNT Leo was honorable, driven, wise, and self scarificing to an extent that he had no life outside of taking care of his family(had eldest daughter syndrome). But at the same time he was relatively dark, and much more willing to do the dirty work. All of these Leonardo's were different, but the core personality traits were the same (his willingness to do the right thing, being responsible, his empathy, his focus etc). Other comic book/series Leo's were like different flavors of the same products. Like different flavored KitKats. ROTTMNT Leo instead of a different flavored KitKat was a bowl of ice cream. I think you didn't like Leo as a character. Now that they made an OC named Leonardo, you like him. But don't forget Leo have been existing since the 80's. And people loved him since his creation because he was reliable, responsible and honorable. A few years down the line, no one will remember ROTTMNT. Because it was not what the fans wanted. Why do you think they cancelled it? They realized it does not work.

What I love about ROTTMNT is that they are the most unique. I feel like they give off the most teenager vibes. I love how Mikey acts like the youngest brother while also being really friendly and open. I love how Raphael is the big, overprotective brother while and doesn’t have huge anger issues, but that was replaced with his isolation issues that gave him pure rage moments. He’s a big sweetheart, which I also greatly adore. I like Donny for his neutral tones and funny remarks while also being a tech whizz, but also greatly cares for his brothers in his own ways. And I absolutely love Leo for his funny actions and lack of maturity, since they are teenagers after all. They weren’t raised by a completely serious father, which could explain why they are so immature, but I really feel like it adds to the fact that they are still children and don’t need to grow up so fast to compare to serious adults. And like in all the movies, their are many alternative universes/dimensions of the tmnt’s. So I feel like it it’s cool that we stepped out of the lines of seriousness and shows that not all the dimensions are gonna be similar. Although, their storyline is a bit whacky since the series got cut short, but I really feel like the show had a lot of potential. And I love how they made April. She’s a confident teenager that’s not afraid to stand up and fight. Having a change of pace kinda feels good.

I loved how the 2012 series combined the dark elements from the 2003 series (and comics, but since I never read those I don't feel comfortable using it as comparison), and the humor from the 1987 series. And I loved how the turtles behaved like actual teenagers! That bothered me when rewatching the 2003 series, they rarely felt like teens to me. As for favorite character, it differs per series. 1987's favorite is Raphael, because I love meta humor and he broke the 4th wall the most often. 2003 and 2012 favorites are Leonardo, I don't know why, all I know is that I crushed on both of them. 2012 is the best IMO because it’s the most emotional, intriguing, hardcore, heartwarming cartoon of its decade. The expressions and reactions are more lifelike and dramatic, the action sequences are perfect and smooth, the multiple foes they meet bring them more of a challenge. The moments where they lose or fail have a more drastic impact on the story, which makes it so much more satisfying when you see them triumph over their losses. The development of all the characters, good and bad, is extremely engaging because it makes you think about what is next in-store. The best thing about this adaptation is that it is still original but also blends the material from the past in the story. Every time that happens it feels like a love letter to the series that came before it. TMNT 2012 is a joy to watch and it was a wild ride for me growing up. I am glad it is the winner. I'd have to agree and disagree. I agree one end because, yea I really did enjoy the show as kid, heck I think it did some things better than TMNT 2003, for instance shredder. Now look, the reason why I feel 2012 shredder is better than 2003's version isn't because he's oroku saki. But because of his backstory which was excellent by the way. And 2012 splinter also is the best one by far. And this show had the most emotional moments. But at the same time 2003 had the best depiction of Leonardo in terms of character, and the best designs for the TMNT, Shredder, Hun and casey, casey from 2003 was also the most likeable. Because in 2012 Casey is just this skinny kid picking a fight with people, which I felt was kind of a spit on his name. Casey in 2003 is muscular (as he should be) was the most likeable and was always there to help. 2003 also had the better intro, heck WAY better than 2012's version. It also had the best version of Raphael, because he liked to fight, tried to be there for his brothers when they needed him, and learned from his mistakes, even trying to lead people like casey down to the right path so they don't make the Sams mistakes he did. And had the best voice actor for raph. But 2012 had the more realistic animation and was the most true to how siblings, and even how teenagers are in general. Overall I think its a tie between these to awesome shows. Of course though people are allowed to have their own opinions on which show they like better. So if your saying 2012 is the best I can't blame you, its a badass cartoon show, and is definitely a lot better than fastforward and back to the sewers.

Turtle Power! Honestly I love the 2003 series. I mean I was a baby when it was coming out and really little when it was ending, but I always had fond memories of it even when I barely remembered it and I keep coming back to rewatch it. the reason I love it is because it just encompasses all the thing I tend to like in a show, narrative, some jokes(maybe not the best but I liked them), characters and so on. Even when I was really little I've always loved narrative stories and stories that tingle the imagination and hit your emotions. I personally liked the last 2 seasons just cause they were something different. They weren't that great overall and the art style displeased me even as a kid but I liked them. 2012 I didn't like at first cause it wasn't 2003 and I grumbled when I watched the 1st episode but by the second I was pouting while singing the theme song and I grew to like it ALOT. Mickey is also one of my favorite characters and I liked how they handles him and kept the angle from the 2003 version that he is a really good fighter and has the potential to outmatch his brothers. I didn't really see much of the original other than clips and the cross overs but I liked them too but not as much. And as for Rise...........I'm still working up the nerve to watch it. I started watching the 1st episode and was like "HOLY COW THE FIGHTING IS SO GOOOOOOODDDDD!" and then April showed up and the comedy happened and I shut it off. Don't get me wrong when I was younger and even now I love humor driven shows or shows with a lot of it too. But Rise had, from what I was starting to see, the kind of humor I never liked. The over the top humor that felt like they were trying too hard to be zainy and wacky, which can work for me but not when it's so in your face and so often from everyone. It's just a type of humor I've been seeing more often and it just turns me off, but I think that is also because of Teen Titans Go for me which started the souring of my taste for that humor even more and remakes of properties. Also it just felt to me they were all just different versions of Mickey but that was just my first impression. I mean I'm still gonna give it a try of course for the fight scenes and such since I really like that kind of thing in shows too, unique uses of powers and weapons. Honestly though from what I have seen it's more overhyped cause of the action than anything else, not to say it has nothing good but.......I mean it just doesn't seem all that rounded and like it has parts competing with itself. But overall 2003 holds the #1 spot to me even despite the last 2 seasons and 2012 is a very close second for being a little bit of everything done well. Also I liked the 2007 movie, it's still one I just like to watch, not necessarily cause it's good per se but it just has moments that I really like still and has ideas I've always liked to have seen more of. It's just enjoyable to me

The 2012 is the best, for: 1. Each turtle has a unique look, making them easily recognizable even without their headbands. Shredder’s design is far superior-his giant claws and the absence of a sword make him much more intimidating. In his super form, Shredder’s ability to merge with his armor and create blades is far cooler than just getting bigger armor. The animation is excellent. 2. Tiger Claw is a fantastic addition and should be included in every version. 3. Splinter’s backstory, where he mutates from a man into a rat, makes more sense than the idea of a rat learning martial arts by watching his master. 4. The Krang being a race rather than a single character makes them stronger and more interesting as a villainous force.

I would really like future versions to go to something like Rise, it's so refreshing and unique. The fact that each turtle is of a different species opens up a thousand possibilities in terms of designs. Draxum deserves to return to the franchise either as the cause of the mutation since Krang/Utroms are so overused, as an overlord yokai/mutant or whatever they want to do. His cause was similar to that of Prince Nuada in Hellboy and was like an updated and better made version of Titanus from 1987. Big Mama too, a crime lord spider woman is something very unique, there aren't many notable female antagonists in the franchise other than Karai, it would be nice to have more variety. Minor villains have a lot of potential like Hun or Tigerclaw in 2012, from Foot Brute and Leutenient, to mutants with themed abilities and unique abilities, like Stinkbomb, Hypno, Sloppy Joseph, etc. Ghostbear definitely fits in with any other episode that wants to show Raph's fanaticism for wrestling, it would be a dream to see him face a new version of Triple Threat. It would be great if they take note and release a movie inspired by anime, the energy and speed of the fights suits them well.

one element that was sort of mentioned but deserves more praise with 2012: THE CAST. good GOD they're a perfect mix of actors who's voices fit their characters perfectly. Donatello is voiced by Rob Paulsen, of Animaniacs fame, where he voiced Yakko. Also voiced Carl Wheezer in Jimmy Neutron. Michaelangelo is Greg Cipes, the perfect voice for Mikey and Beast Boy. Leo's Seth Green is perfect with the dramatic and comedic/nerdy stuff. Raph as Sean Astin, Samwise fuckin Gangee from Lord of the Rings, ironic and perfect for him to play a strong, tough character

As an animation fan, I absolutely loved Rise. I loved its use of motion blur, squash and stretch, and smear frames. Absolutely beautiful fight scenes. I liked the designs, despite the fact when I watched at least a little of each of the other shows. While 2003 is my favorite personal favorite, some of the voice lines were kinda odd, like Hun's, "Master, you're signal is breaking up!" Fast Forward works better as it's own thing in my opinion. I liked it, but it definitely was not the best. Didn't really like Back to the Sewers. It felt a little rushed. Also really didn't like the eyes. 2012 was the first series I'd actually seen and it's what got me into TMNT. I absolutely loved the story. Still upset that Mutagen Man was never cured though. I don't know if it's just me, but there was a bit too much of romantic tension between Karai and Leo, since technically they're siblings. Even if they didn't know it when they first met. I watched a few episodes of 1987 turtles, and I liked the comedy but I haven't actually watched the show in it's entirety so I can't really judge it too much.

Honestly, Every TMNT is very dear to my heart. I like to think of each version as their own alternate dimension. Each of them have their own kind of charm and flavor, including their ups and downs. Honestly it would pretty sick if we got a Turtles Forever 2 or a remake of that movie, only this time its with all the versions of them fighting their army of villians, each baddie coming from a different universe. It would be so sick! I especially want 2003 Raph to chat with 2012 Raph, and Rize Raph would be like the big guy which the other Raphs would think its pretty sick! The Donnies would be doing their own Tech wiz stuff, Rize Donnies snark would be a fun thing to see in this situation. The Mikeys would literally be vibing with each other, and heck maybe pull a sick combos with each others nunchucks. And we could even have a nice moment with the Leos talking about their teams and leadership styles. But hey thats just my inner fan speaking! 😅😂

i feel like ROTTMNT should be continued into season 3. it has an active fan base that's growing quickly and it has lighthearted moments and representation that make it a comfort show for a lot of people. and after watching both seasons and the movies, the story gets dark in a lot of ways like 2003 does. it has the legitimate threat of death and loss and the importance of family and it sends a very important message to younger audiences about open-mindedness and acceptance
@pika12222 жыл бұрын
Two things I liked about ROTMNT were one: the new character designs, and two: a villain that wasn’t Shredder. I really liked how they made each of the turtles a different species, like making Raphael a snapping turtle, Leo a red eared slider, Donnie a soft shell, and Mikey a box turtle, and gave them new personalities to make them feel like, well, actual teenagers! Even April got a new design and personality and I love it! She feels so unique! Everyone does! It’s almost like its a completely new TMNT universe, which does make sense, as the TMNT multiverse has been confirmed. As for the new villain, Shredder has always been a bit overused. He’s in every TMNT cartoon as the main antagonist. I liked him the most in the 2012, but this new villain is a breath of fresh air in my opinion. And the animation, MMMMMM! In my opinion, animation is one of the key things in making an animated TV show or movie a good one, along with good characters and a good story, which I think this one has! It feels so anime, which I love! With shows like Hilda and Demon Slayer, it’s not just the story and characters that make it lovable. Hilda had beautiful scenery and artwork, while Demon Slayer had high pace action in the form of seamless animation. And for ROTMNT, It has really cool animation! I can see why people dislike it, but I like it. Sure they’re not the same characters that you grew up with, but aren’t new personality traits and designs a breath of fresh air. And unlike Teen Titans Go, that failure of a Teen Titans reboot, it doesn’t need to use an overused amount of comedy for it to work. It feels something that teenagers of this century would be into with characters that they could relate to. And it’s obvious the creators loved the OG TMNT. Why would they decide to purposefully create a trashier version of the TMNT shows only to spend so much money and time on animation?

I'll be honest the animation was part of what threw me off or made me uneasy about this series. Like it honestly feels over done way too often. But since everyone mentions the Trigger studio stuff...... I'll just say it: I don't like Trigger animated series. Don't like Kill la Kill, don't like Gurren Lagan, don't like Darling in th Franxx, and I wasn't a big fan of the Star Wars Visions episode they did. And I don't like BNA. Let alone disliking the new version of Splinter, Leo, and Donnie. Mostly Splinter. I liked April and I like this take on Mikey. Raph was a bit unusual, but not bad. But last second Casey flip felt out of nowhere. The yokai stuff felt fitting, but then suddenly adding in Shredder in the second half felt weird after all the other mystic stuff. The series honestly felt kinda try hard to be drastic and yet relatable. Almost like how the last 2 of 2003 tried too hard to be "kid" friendly. Though I will agree that the Stockman zombie episode is creepy even as an adult.

I say the 80s because if it wasn't for the 80s version all the other versions wouldn't ever have existed, it's called evolution, they didn't just paved the way they gave each turtle their own colors, made April who was originally black or latina in the original comics white with red hair, they where the first to make splinter and yoshi the same person, introduced bebop & rocksteady and many more great characters such as Krang, Yes Krang was based off the alien beings in the comics but he was never brain shaped and called Krang. Most of the aspects of the upgraded versions where taken from the original show and you could tell that those who created the other shows where greatly inspired y the original. Yes it had less action and more comedy to apple towards more children but that's because it was the 80s and the 80s had more guidlines for children's programming or it would be taken off the air, the original shows creators originally wanted it to be more violent like actually using their weapons but couldn't, even some things in the first episode was taken out like them using weapons on the foot clan who where humans and not robots, there's actually three versions of the first episode which could be found on the collection DVD, I HAVE THE COLLECTION VHS with lost and deleted scenes that was ment to be in the show. The shows producers said they never intended for the foot to be robots but the good thing is is that if it wasn't for that change we all wouldn't have robot ninjas in the other series as well, they where the first to also say turtle power which the comics also adopted to using in the 90s once the tv series became a big hit

2012 was the only series I had watched for years. I have the theme song memorized. I remember the only thing I’d watch on Nickelodeon was TMNT, and the nostalgia I have for this series is crazy. My favorite turtle is either Raph or Mikey, it goes back and forth between those two. And, finally, TURTLE POWER!

Tbh. Fight scenes on the 2017 cartoon looked gorgeous but I loved the choreography of the 2012 version. Also the 2012 theme song is the best as a song even though the 1987 song is more iconic

Personally I really liked the 2012 series. They did really good with their cgi, and fight choreography was fairly solid, as was the writing… until season 4. Teenage Mutant ninja Tortoises in space became a bit too far removed from the original premise for my tastes and i still have yet to watch the full season

I grew up with TMNT 2012 so it holds a very important place in my heart but I also have a massive appreciation for Rise because of the style, animation, character personalities and sense of fun

Okay, in Rise! Leo’s defence for a quick moment: Him not really caring about or wanting to be leader is more than just laziness. Id put it more as “fear of responsibility”, (though laziness does work lmao). AND, despite what he’s rather everyone believe, he has massive self confidence issues. He takes the longest to learn to use his mystic weapon, which is probably kind of new to him considering he’s basically a gifted kid, and he doesn’t actively offer anything to the team, (that he can see). (He’s describes himself as the “face man” a lot but he’s so much more than that.) Despite the fact that he would be best fit for the role in battle, he doesn’t even properly realize this because A, Raph is a good leader, and B. He doesn’t think he’d be able to do the job. But 2012 Leo and 2003 Leo DEFINITELY deserved that spot. :) Though I think I lean towards Rise Leo just slightly because Relatable Haven’t finished the video yet, but I am enjoying it immensely so far! :D
