*Something to consider with Pyro:* While they aren't consciously choosing to kill people, the fact that everything they do in Pyroland also happens to line up with efficient/brutal methods of murder in reality tells us that on SOME level, Pyro DOES enjoy killing. HOWEVER! The fact that Pyro doesn't go on a rampage after being fired and instead becomes CEO of a company implies that their hallucinations likely compel them to do whatever is best for their current job, be it murder or financial strategy. We know that Pyro has the CAPACITY for complex decision-making, as they were capable of constructing multiple military-grade incendiary weapons out of crap they found in a garage. BUT!! We can ALSO see that Pyro is clearly miserable as a CEO, while working as a mercenary made them frighteningly happy. This tells us that on some level, Pyro IS aware of the difference between leading a company and burning people to death, and DOES have a preference. The fact that they don't just burn random people, though, says that even if it's what they love to do, they still won't do it unless they're being instructed to.

Truthfully, I think Scout would fit more under "Mostly Money". This is because he was raised in a family of seven older brothers and a single mother, with a bastard father who left them when he was merely an infant (likely in a state of poverty). There's no way in hell a family of that size could live in a financially-healthy state (not without having a LOT of money beforehand anyways), but since Spy had abandoned them (who definitely has a job to keep the family he left in check), it's the whole reason why Scout became a mercenary two decades later, to fill in the shoes his bastard father had left behind and get them out of a state of poverty (why the comics never mention this is probably because he managed to do this sometime before the events of "Ring of Fired", since the mercenaries get paid TONS of money). If Scout had the option, I suspect he would much rather be a professional baseball player, but since he's a wanted criminal, he can't exactly go back to living a normal life, meaning he's stuck in this hell with the bastard who left his family to rot in the first place.

To me, I think Heavy is in it for the Money for the most part, but is also an honor-bound killer. He probably has the highest moral standards of the 9 mercs, considering his backstory with his family, and, although he does enjoy shooting his guns and all that, he also is shown to hold strict moral boundaries. He inquires about Miss Pauling's job propositions to ensure that he is going to be killing "evil men" specifically, and his character niche being that of a sort of "team leader" both as a gameplay thing AND a lore thing says to me that, while he DOES do it for the money, the point of said money is selfless and for sending back to his family, and if he didn't have to worry about his family, he may either retire or work under Miss Pauling under the expectation that what he is doing is morally right and overall helps more people in the world.
@lollikabosso.w.n7153
@lollikabosso.w.n7153 Жыл бұрын
I dont think of him as the leader, but rather as the guy that carries the team when needed And Id rather say he has the most neutral morality, making him perfect mercenary. He may have code of honor, but to him, unless you hurt him, or people he likes, he might as well sell himself to the highest bidder, as hes still a soldier of fortune, to whom killing is just a chore, but hes good at it, and thus takes pride in it.

Remember the bear incident in the comics, Pyro sees the world through pyrovision, but he 110% knows what's actually happening and what she's doing. Seeing one of the bears as Smokey, the second the bear says "Fire is no one's friend" Pyro gets really pissed and axes the bear to death That said Pyro does seem to care about money having gotten a mundane job after manco fell, so i wouldn't say its solely about the killing, even though pyro has the means of getting money elsewhere its far better getting paid doing something you love rather then something you hate. I dont quite agree with Demo, in the comics he seems to be seriously depressed about losing his job to machines, and jumps right back on the occasion to get it back, while other jobs seemed uninteresting So yeah money is a big factor but i'd say he's mostly in for the money, not 100% just that

Pyro should be a very easy case considering you actually include both killing and fun into consideration. Regardless of whether or not he understands he's killing people, we see that things that kill people (especially fire) are translated into Pyrovision as things that cause him joy, while being a CEO does not.Incredibly clear cut case of "in it for the fun", the hard part is defining what that fun is exactly.

How do you think Pyro would react if his Pyro vision was fixed and told and shown all those people he thought he was helping he burned alive? Considering pyro even without the pyro vision would most likely still be very mentally and emotionally unstable I can only imagine how traumatic it would be for him.

Spy and Sniper both are examples of "if you're good at something , never do it for free" And Heavy, Demo, Engi and Spy show that just because you're in for the money doesn't mean you can't be proud of what you do and enjoy it. That is basically what we all look for. A job that can fund us that we also like doing.

Demo is only working for Mannco for the money, but he takes hella pride in his work and could probably find legit demolitions work anywhere else but none that would pay as good. Soldier is probably really poorly paid cause the Admin or whoever drafted his contract is taking advantage of him, similiar thing with Pyro. They're both very dangerous very skilled people. But Mannco was hiring from the short bus that day

I think Heavy and Medic should be alongside Engie. Heavy's lines in game show that he really likes mowing down people with his gun, though I believe he signed up primarily to help his folks. And Medic really likes money. He's super excited about getting money from the robots in MvM for example.

I think you might be a bit confused on the Demoman part. That article from him was about the top 10 house cleaners that won’t kill you if you drink them. And the part about Pyro could be boiled down to him only being in it for the “fun” since Pyroland makes it seem like everyone is just having fun. He probably thinks he’s getting paid to both babysit and play with children if “Meet the Pyro” is anything to go by.

Pyro is definitely in it for the killing, as his large company made his « world » bland and boring, without colors. He believes he has fun with everyone when killing, and, as seen in the comic A Cold Day In Hell, he is *likely* capable to be aware that he kills (mainly due to how he reacts towards the bear warning him about fire).

I'd move Heavy down a tier. His primary goal is helping out his family but he also appears to take *way* more pride in his, well... weapons than Demo. It's the only thing he's compelled to talk about in his introduction video and the Meet the Director comic. He even gave it a nickname and made a little bed for it. He's usually very down to earth and calm but becomes very loud and zealous on the battlefield. Heavy acts similarly while fighting a bear in the comics - he's doing it to feed his family but he's also having a blast while doing so. The exact same thing can be said about his job

A psychoanalyst would point to the divide between the conscious and unconscious, and say that a person's real (unconscious) reasons for doing something are different than the reasons they can consciously put into language. Scout might be in it for the fun, while the investing is just a good enough excuse for him to believe that he's not just compelled to be there by a silly preoccupation with running while being in danger. Poor guy; if only Spy was there for him.

I would add, demoman keeping multiple jobs allows him to get her mother off his case, heavy also is in for some previous accords taken with mannco, given the "family against the government" angle also, meh, saxton hale is clearly in just for the fun of it. wouldn't have started the whole venture of yeti park, spending millions, so he could have and area dedicated to have people watch him hunt down and punch yetis if it was for the money (especially given how he killed evey last one of them)
