@GregsMowing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Not sure on best 21” roller. Many would say lawnflite. Honda are good but if used a lot the gearbox just lasts a year! Some say Stihl which cuts and collects well but does cut high. If you step up to the 22” mowers it’s either Hayter or Toro. Same chassis etc but I always recommend Toro prostripe 👍🏻 hope that helps.

I doubt if there is much difference if you buy a pro deck . I go on versatility like the range in cutting heights and choices, Weibang allow you to set over 11 heights, while Honda is just 6 with big jumps of about a cm between heights. The quality of the stripe is down to having rich green grass and cutting it long.

Great video.. just bought new pro stripe 56 last week really nice machine Only thing is revs bog down so far on cutter engagement doesn't feel great for engine very close to stalling ..dealer says its all okay but I'm not sure ..?

Kevin Blades good stuff. To begin with you do need to pull the lever up slowly. Once it’s used a few weeks it should be fine. The Briggs on 56 I stalled loads. You can tune the engine but should be done after first oil change (after 5/6 hours). What swayed you to get it?

Great video Greg. I love the cut of the hayter though. I can honestly say hayter gives a more defined stripe than a Honda pro.

The toro is just built with the commercial user more in mind. The Hayter is just cheap, I'd never buy one. Honda Pro roller's are better than either of these by a margin IMO, the build quality on the Honda is on a different level. Saying that the Honda does feel a little more industrial to use, they could perhaps design the levers, bars and grass bag handle so it's a little more comfortable for the user but quite honestly I'm just used to these things on them and anybody using them all day quickly would get used to it, the cut is as good as any rotary machine out there and they are built like tanks. The Honda pro roller will outlast a Hayter pro by years, the toro has a good commercial grade engine though some of the levers etc look a little flimsy for a commercial machine IMO. Demo a pro roller, you know you want to 😂
@GregsMowing
@GregsMowing 4 жыл бұрын
well Greg I have used hrh roller in the past and a hrd. basically the same. weren't that good in the wet in factory conditions. I am sure they are a bit better with more revs. For me the Hayter handlebar design is a lot more comfortable and ergonomic, nicer BBC engagement system too. Hondas are built well no doubt about it but don't think its night and day between them. Have you used these new ones for a few seasons to compare? I believe these early ones will continue to develop over the new few years then they will be as good as they can be. The issue with Hondas, something mentioned with jay before, is the shaft drive design means Hondas are more at home on longer lawns. so the small lawns are bad for the drive system and therefore they don't last 2 years. spoken to loads of experienced mechanics, total experience well over 100 years they all say the same. Honda roller drive won't last more than 2/3 years used commercially. So that's where the belt drive haters and toros come in to their element can be used small and large lawns no issue to the drive system.
@gregnichol8290
@gregnichol8290 4 жыл бұрын
One of my hrh is 5 years old and has no issues, I also use a honda hrx476 roller for smaller lawns because its lighter for lots of awkward turns or carrying up and down steps. Have a stihl 655v aswell for lawns where stripes are not really a priority. I wouldn't buy a hayter after the one I had about 5 seasons ago, it just wasnt cut out for commercial use IMO, whereas every honda I've had has stood the test of time. John Deere is another I wouldn't touch after having one. Even if the drive went on the honda, I can get the gearbox refurbished for £150 or buy a new one for £400 so it wouldn't really be a huge issue, I service machines myself right enough and the biggest things with hondas is the drive cable starts to stretch so to get the drive to fully engage you have to push the drive lever in all the way otherwise it will click. This wont happen if you keep the cable adjusted properly and replace when it stretches too much, guys working for other folks using these machines will just plod on with them using a stretched drive cable which will eventually lead to premature wear on the box if you use it like this for a long time.

Greg Nichol every user is different. You sound like you take care of your machines. As do I. These hayters are a year old so no comparison to the one you had. These are much MUCH better. I wouldn’t use a roller mower with a different handlebar layout than the Hayter ones. John Deere is weird and too low. The Stihl is backwards and not as comfortable. Hondas also uncomfortable for me
@gregnichol8290
@gregnichol8290 4 жыл бұрын
I will agree the honda's are a little more industrial to use though if your doing a big area with long stripes its negligible when turning without padding on the bars etc yes it's a little more uncomfortable. I might buy a hayter 41 pro this year for smaller gardens and see how it is, the handles are the least of the john deeres worries in my experience, collection is terrible on anything but dry grass and various other annoying things

Tim Colehan For me It depends what hayters they are, I would not own a hayter with a gearbox, the old side drive systems weren’t very refined but were extremely reliable, even more than a Honda. I was told briggs stopped making that side drive engine that was probably because mowers they were fitted to rarely broke down. The first gearbox hayter went to was a general transmissions gear box, they are also fitted to some hrx hondas, imo a very poor gearbox. Regarding the new hayters I haven’t seen the new style gearbox on them but I imagine they are a throw away unit if they go wrong, the Honda one is repairable. But Imo the hayter greg featured here looks very poor quality imo, Toro is a bit better as it has the better engine, neither will last to long if they worked hard commercially. So it’s Honda or Etesia for me.
@frankymal8640

Got to agree, that 56 Pro looks very poor quality compared to the recent Honda's I've looked at. However, even the Honda looks like a toy compared to my old Harrier 2, with the side drive B&S / chain drive. It's a 1986 mower, and still cutting as well as it did when new 35 years ago. Shame Hayter can't make them more like this anymore (at least the 'Pro'). I think people would pay for that level of quality.
@menditman2004
@menditman2004 3 жыл бұрын
@@frankymal8640 TBH most modern mowers are really that good, imo the best mowers were made in the 90s and up to 2010, the introduction of auto chokes and more and more makes like Honda and Hayter using cheap plastic gearboxes on so call pro machines, have just made them throw away unit if they fail. Gearboxes are so expensive. I run a Honda HRH536 4 wheeler 2005 ish and they is a brilliant machine. Greg has a Etesia pro which is a great machine but they are very expensive.

@GregsMowing
@GregsMowing 3 жыл бұрын
Think I went over the differences in the video and are in other videos, not sure its quite £500, more like £300 which is still a chunk of cash but I felt the prostripe is king with the upgraded engine, gearbox and stronger wheels and of course the awesome red paint job. Due to the gearbox being easier to control than the sense speed on the 56 I find it collects a lot better too. As shown in other videos also. Thanks for watching.

Good video greg. One thing i did notice is that the pull cord is lower down on the toro. Would be much better for your back, especially if mowing all day if it was higher up like the hayter. I only have a small van and the hayter fits centimetre perfect! The toro wouldn’t fit unless folded down, which looks time consuming. I Have to agree overall the toro is a much better quality built machine. Maybe if i buy a bigger van i will get one 😅

Yeah buy a proper van. A transit 🤣. There is no mounting point on the Toro. Probably could fit one if needed but to be honest as you only need to start it once at each job. In normal conditions. It’s not really an issue. Both my Toro pros are like this and I’m fine with it to be honest

The professional roller machines leave a better finish than any battery powered mower and this is before we go in to cutting widths, cutting wet/damp grass, collection and all the rest of it. I dont think commercial grade machines will be electric for a long long time. Time is money when you do this for a living and if you can leave a better finish and do the lawn in half the time with a conventional petrol machine that's what everyone is going to do

no and there isn't a roller cordless mower out there.
