Justin, when it comes to especially buying a used truck, and I'm sure you already know this, never lose track of the fact you're the business owner , and you're the guy paying the bills. You're the guy that has the final say so, the guy that's looking out for number # 1. Even if that truck needs a little work its cheaper than a new one. I think you made a good investment.

Rob Slavin knows his tractor-trailers. He’s a senior pricing analyst at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneer, which sells hundreds of millions of dollars of used transportation equipment each year. And in the two decades he’s been selling or analyzing used truck prices, he’s never seen a market like the one of the past year and a half. A red-hot trucking market and substantial delays in new truck manufacturing sent used truck prices soaring. Slavin saw big rigs double and sometimes triple in price. A used 2016 truck that would have cost around $32,000 at the end of 2020 would get auctioned off for $75,000, Slavin said. And, at a dealership, where trucks are reconditioned before getting sold, that truck would cost up to $90,000

We just bought a 2007 Mack pinnacle day cab. It’s got the wet kit on it and ready to go. We bought it from the company we haul for and the last 5 years it’s just been used here and there. They said it had a shit down problem and they wasn’t sure what it was. Well we found it. The fuel tank had trash all in it and was clogging the fuel lines. We cleaned the tank ( only has one) and the fuel lines and I’ve been in it the last three weeks with no issues. We gave 15 k for it which I feel was a steel. Oh it had 515000 miles when we got it and I’ve got 520000 on it now wihh no issues.

Even if you turn it down two way 475 if they have TwinTurbo‘s and they still work properly honestly keep them because it’s all in the tuning same numbers for the TwinTurbo

That silver truck you said has a 5EK CAT. I had one of them in 1994 excellent motor but that's the first 3406E engine. Could be over 25 year old motor. Possibility a 2 million engine. I don't quite understand what you even looking at buying something like that but whatever.

@danielhofer73862 жыл бұрын
@@flintcreektransport I understand that but I doubt you would overhaul that motor again.that block could very well have over 2 million miles on it by time it fails. If that motor hasn't been updated at one of those previous overhauls it will have a crankshaft & a camshaft that weren't as good as the later Cats, plus that could be only a 40 pin EMC. My EK was one of the 1st 10,000 built got 765,000 miles before had to overhaul it. during tearing engine down came to find out the deck had to be plained down due to out of spec was just to close to take a chance. Had to pull the block out of the truck. good thing as long as it was out we had the crankshaft texted & it was bad. I could have overhauled a engine with a crank that probably would have broke long before the engine wore out. $4700.00 for the crankshaft & that was in 2010. It was rebuilt with nothing spared whatsoever turbo,injectors, oil cooler, water pump oil pump, rods, mains pistons. head, timing gears starter you name it it was replaced. That engine has another 700,000 miles on it but the fact is that the block is still almost 30 years old. & I personally wouldn't ask for that engine to give me another 700,00 miles. What cost $35,000 to do in 2010 probably would cost $50,000 to do today maybe more. like you said in beginning of your video buying that truck is a GAMBLE. PS. my cousin has a 2019 Peterbilt 389 with a IX 565 Cummins 2050 torque engine bought it brand new has 476,000 miles on it.Has spent less than $3000 on the engine in that 470,000 miles he is going to Denton, Tx. next week to get his new Peterbilt. He has that 2019 sold & due to Covid he is getting more money than he paid for it in 2019. He will be in his new Peterbilt also with a IX Cummins for less than .07 cents per mile. That's hard to believe but used truck marked is Nuts. Sooner than later someone is going to get upside down in these high prices used trucks & it's not going to be good.at all!
@flintcreektransport2 жыл бұрын
@@danielhofer7386 yes right now prices for used are insane which my 2019 that I sold cost me about 4 cents a mile ….. the problem is to replace that truck cost me way more ….approx 225-245k and if I decide to keep that truck the issues start at the 4-500k mile mark. On top of redoing the engine I have just as much cost in rebuilding the emission system and still have to add def fluid and get worse mpg. With this glider I get a lot of benefits …… hope this makes sense

It's 6 to 1 half dozen to another which way to do.I sure's heck would want a used Def truck with a lot of miles on it. 25-30 years ago if one could traded trucks for .10 cents a miles it was considered a could deal. this used truck market is going to fall apart it's just When will it Fall.
