The biggest thing that needed an update was the suspension. Cascadia suspensions are horrible. Rough riding. You feel every bump in the road especially with shorter wheelbase configurations. All the new tech but they won’t upgrade the ride quality. A cascadia that could ride like a pete, volvo or a KW would be nice or at least offer front axle air bags as an option

Also... Have you thought about having just One drive live axle? I drove a Peterbilt like it, necer an issue. In Europe they pull as much weight or more, probably eith just One pulling axle. The weight reduction may pay off. What about ordering with disc brakes, i stead of drums, another huge weight reduction. Great video. 😊

I’m guessing my 23 Cascadia averages 8.5. I have a diesel apu and I’m pretty religious about not idling. We get a bonus for staying under 6%. My heavy loads are about 40% and I’m in the hills about 70% of the time. Oddly enough the rain kills my mpg. I sometimes 1.5 mpg in the rain. Basically everything electronic shuts down when it rains. I asked my boss yesterday to please sell it and give me a new one but she said we don’t have one at the moment. Hopefully it’ll be gone soon. It has 142,000 miles on it. By the way it’s governed at 69. Ironically I’m watching your video waiting for a storm to pass😂

Cascadia would stay 7.9 to 8.1 mpg over 50k miles. No APU. I love this KENWORTH. So stable and great lane holding. 30 years with a CDlL, used to own a Freightliner Classic. This truck rides better. Is stonger, better fuel economy.

I've used both the Diesel APU and the Battery Pack APU and I much, much prefer the Diesel APU. I hate the Freightliner battery pack APU because in summer time when the A/C is on the batteries drain to the point that the engine has to start about 6-8 hrs into the 10 hrs off and the damn engine IMMEDIATELY revs to about 1200 rpm! Not only does it jolt me out of a sound sleep, I'm quite sure going to 1200 rpm immediately on startup is NOT good for the engine as the oil doesn't have a chance to get to the top of the engine. As you're well aware Ronen, idle time isn't necessarily the biggest factor a driver or corporation can control in fuel consumption (although it does play a large role). You've provided us with the engine and transmission specs - but what is the rear axle ratio on both the 21's and 25's? Keeping the rpms down at highway speeds is also a major factor in fuel consumption, along with the terrain (ET usually runs US Midwest, Ontario east, and US Eastern Seaboard, correct?) and load weight. I was running a 2017 Pete 579 with a PACCAR MX13 engine and automated transmission, (not sure what the rear axle ratio was) pulling an average of 76,000 to 78,000 lbs from Mira Loma, CA, to Calgary AB, and I'd get an average (according to the truck and math) of about 7.5 mpg. Naturally, the mileage would be anywhere from .25 to .5 gallon less during winter. I considered that good mileage because I'd be climbing from near sea level in CA to 3000+ ft elevation in Utah, then I'd be going through the mountains in Montana. I would fuel in St George UT, and again in Shelby MT (952 miles) and would fill between 130 - 140 gallons in Shelby. The truck did have a TriPac diesel APU, so idle time was minimal (I did idle the engine during the pretrip to get the oil flowing). Does the amount of fuel saved equal or exceed the cost of a new unit over the unit's lifespan? How long does ET usually keep its company units? If the '21 is paid off (or about to be) is it worth it to spend $200K plus the diesel APU on a new '25?
@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News

That's a great insight about the APUs. The rear axle ratio is definitely a critical part of the equation!

Is 10 % smaller in displacement, and can be order up to 525 hp ( which you may not need) 😂. The DD 13 is pretty much similar to DD15, and DD16. Just smaller. Currently I’m driving a 2024 Cascadia with ele interior comfort zone. I live in my truck for at least 6 wks. My 2016 Volvo 780 says it gets 7.1 mpg it has less than 700,000 miles its paid off and i stay going 75mph. I had it turned up to 515hp(they say torque don't change on Volvos😏) and its ungoverned. My issue with buying a new truck is i like to work when i want too,thats why i became an owner operator just for myself. I used to have 14 trucks and 40 trailers about 14 years ago,having to book loads and trust that contracts stay in line is kinda pointless. I like being able to look at my bills and say i can work 15-20 days,clear $12k & just be at home without worrying about having to run to make $5k for a truck and trailer note and insurance, plus my house bills. More drivers should do this,so it's not so hard out here and your home life doesn't falter,cause most truckers are divorced and you are a stranger in your own home😅😅😅

A question the company i work for is running mostly new Detroit engines westernstar not freightliner but all detroit. and 6 of them 2023-2025 but our fuel usage is a lot higher than your stats given here. your trucks are geared a lot higher than our trucks are. could you do a video about the details on what RPMs the trucks are running at speed and maybe explain a bit how a gear ratio works. and how do they perform in the hills and what do your experience drivers say about the trucks. for the most part we are fairly happy with these trucks as far as maintenance but would like to get better fuel economy. as a company driver i would love to go back to the old truck but from a financial and company stand point i understand why companies don't just run old trucks.

Where your specs? Axle ratio? To compare the fuel economy difference between a semi-truck achieving 7.1 mpg versus 8.1 mpg over 6,000 miles per month, let’s calculate the fuel usage and cost for each scenario. Summary Fuel used per month: 7.1 mpg: ~845 gallons 8.1 mpg: ~741 gallons Monthly fuel cost savings: ~$418 Annual fuel cost savings: ~$5,011 Takeaway Improving fuel efficiency by 1 mpg (from 7.1 to 8.1 mpg) saves over $5,000 annually for a truck driving 6,000 miles monthly at $4/gallon diesel.

That's under the assumption the two are intertwined. You are not forced into long downtime by virtue of running a newer truck. It's how you run, not what you run. If it were as simple as spending days or weeks down, then we, a fleet that runs primarily Freightliner Cascadias, would be out of business by now. The key is to stay on top of your maintenance. Once you do that, you can enjoy avoiding long repair times and high fuel efficiency at the same time! Amazing innit?

@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News I'm not sure I know. I always liked driving the Volvo myself. I just didn't buy one in 2014 because I looked at the price of turbos and other parts and they were more for the Volvo, and also my friends would have their Volvo's parked for warranty work for sometimes 2 weeks because of lines. Personally I prefer the Detroit power because it resembles Cat with the low end torque. Nowadays it's probably all preference I suppose.

I reckon it's worse driving faster, too many accidents, not enough time to react due to fast driving. You get good mileage, better efficiency, slower rate of wear and tear on parts and the bonus of having a lot more ease in reacting to hazards and accidents

Nothing is gonna make those Freightliners look any better. They speed around recklessly, driven by knuckleheads who shouldn’t even be on the road in cars. Trucking lost its pride with trucks like these. I detest them

When everything else is exactly the same, two things that WILL meaningfully impact your fuel economy for an otr truck is the axle ratio and the wheelbase measurement. Your video left out these two of the most important key information. This shows you have no clue as to what your talking about when it comes to spec-ing a truck. Wheelbase meaningfully impacts the aerodynamics…
