The biggest thing that needed an update was the suspension. Cascadia suspensions are horrible. Rough riding. You feel every bump in the road especially with shorter wheelbase configurations. All the new tech but they won’t upgrade the ride quality. A cascadia that could ride like a pete, volvo or a KW would be nice or at least offer front axle air bags as an option

I've used both the Diesel APU and the Battery Pack APU and I much, much prefer the Diesel APU. I hate the Freightliner battery pack APU because in summer time when the A/C is on the batteries drain to the point that the engine has to start about 6-8 hrs into the 10 hrs off and the damn engine IMMEDIATELY revs to about 1200 rpm! Not only does it jolt me out of a sound sleep, I'm quite sure going to 1200 rpm immediately on startup is NOT good for the engine as the oil doesn't have a chance to get to the top of the engine. As you're well aware Ronen, idle time isn't necessarily the biggest factor a driver or corporation can control in fuel consumption (although it does play a large role). You've provided us with the engine and transmission specs - but what is the rear axle ratio on both the 21's and 25's? Keeping the rpms down at highway speeds is also a major factor in fuel consumption, along with the terrain (ET usually runs US Midwest, Ontario east, and US Eastern Seaboard, correct?) and load weight. I was running a 2017 Pete 579 with a PACCAR MX13 engine and automated transmission, (not sure what the rear axle ratio was) pulling an average of 76,000 to 78,000 lbs from Mira Loma, CA, to Calgary AB, and I'd get an average (according to the truck and math) of about 7.5 mpg. Naturally, the mileage would be anywhere from .25 to .5 gallon less during winter. I considered that good mileage because I'd be climbing from near sea level in CA to 3000+ ft elevation in Utah, then I'd be going through the mountains in Montana. I would fuel in St George UT, and again in Shelby MT (952 miles) and would fill between 130 - 140 gallons in Shelby. The truck did have a TriPac diesel APU, so idle time was minimal (I did idle the engine during the pretrip to get the oil flowing). Does the amount of fuel saved equal or exceed the cost of a new unit over the unit's lifespan? How long does ET usually keep its company units? If the '21 is paid off (or about to be) is it worth it to spend $200K plus the diesel APU on a new '25?
@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News14 сағат бұрын
That's a great insight about the APUs. The rear axle ratio is definitely a critical part of the equation!

I’m aware of my fuel ⛽️ consumption. I will do whatever it takes to build up the mileage to fuel, even if I have to run my unit at 60 mph. Currently I’m driving a 2024 Cascadia with ele interior comfort zone. I live in my truck for at least 6 wks. I’m constantly considering fuel consumption for hours resting. 7.8 mpg is average for each week and depending upon the job, 7.4-8.7. I have achieved 11.3 empty. Not withstanding the total picture. You will get 11 miles per gallon from a loaded rig if you hitch a team of 30 oxen. Don't be jived. I want to predict the future. The diesel APU's are golden, but you're going to get a black eye from the battery APU's. I believe most diesel trucks will get great or bad mileage according to how they are driven. Year, motor, color? It doesn't matter.

I’m guessing my 23 Cascadia averages 8.5. I have a diesel apu and I’m pretty religious about not idling. We get a bonus for staying under 6%. My heavy loads are about 40% and I’m in the hills about 70% of the time. Oddly enough the rain kills my mpg. I sometimes 1.5 mpg in the rain. Basically everything electronic shuts down when it rains. I asked my boss yesterday to please sell it and give me a new one but she said we don’t have one at the moment. Hopefully it’ll be gone soon. It has 142,000 miles on it. By the way it’s governed at 69. Ironically I’m watching your video waiting for a storm to pass😂

Where your specs? Axle ratio? To compare the fuel economy difference between a semi-truck achieving 7.1 mpg versus 8.1 mpg over 6,000 miles per month, let’s calculate the fuel usage and cost for each scenario. Summary Fuel used per month: 7.1 mpg: ~845 gallons 8.1 mpg: ~741 gallons Monthly fuel cost savings: ~$418 Annual fuel cost savings: ~$5,011 Takeaway Improving fuel efficiency by 1 mpg (from 7.1 to 8.1 mpg) saves over $5,000 annually for a truck driving 6,000 miles monthly at $4/gallon diesel.

@NorthAmerican-Trucking-NewsКүн бұрын
Yes we are. 65 is a balance point allowing you to gain the best mileage while keeping your daily mileage at a moderate level. More than that and you start to see a significant decline in that mpg and any lower and your daily mileage becomes unbearable. So 62-65 is that sweet spot we've found
